We bought DD a trampoline (8ft) this week for the garden, and she absolutely loves it, it's so sweet, she wants to be on it constantly, and since we bought it, our garden has been full of giggles all day long as we all lark about on it.
The neighbour who's garden backs onto ours (their house is sideways on to ours, so the side of their house over looks our garden) is currently having a loft extension, with a large window on the side that is looking directly into our garden. She stopped my husband this morning, as he was bouncing with DD, and asked him to move the trampoline. She is upset as if adults bounce on it, we can see directly into her garden, and she can see it from her garden and it's a bit of an eye sore.
WTF???!!! We have said NOTHING about the fact they are putting a big fuck off window over looking our garden, we have said NOTHING about the fact that we should have had notification from the council about it with the option to complain about the plans, we have said NOTHING about the fact that their ugly loft conversion will block out the afternoon sun from our garden - because that's just life when you live in a street like this isn't it?
Am so angry that she has the audacity to ask us to move our fucking trampoline cos she doesn't like the look of it. And I'm sorry darling but I'm not that desperate to see into your garden.
So angry.
AIBU to be this p*ssed off??! My DD loves this trampoline so much and now I feel awkward going on there with her.

Our neighbours like sitting in the 'side return' until 2 in the morning (whilst getting pissed)

But our daughter has this thing of staring at them through the window a la Carrie style.

LDNmummy · 09/04/2011 20:36

YANBU! Hypocrisy at its best and I would let her know what you think.

DaydreamDollyisshrinking · 09/04/2011 20:37

K999 I just choked on my easter cake! Too funny! Grin

I think she is right, they are and eyesore.

Paint it pink. BRIGHT pink

Then it will look lovely and she will be everso pleased.

DaydreamDollyisshrinking · 09/04/2011 20:41

YES! PINK!! Jackpot Grin

Ooh and maybe drape it in some flashing fairy lights to make it even more tasteful.

Choufleur · 09/04/2011 20:46

You need that woman who makes wedding dresses on My Big Fat Gipsy Wedding to pimp it gipsy stylie!

mylovelymonster · 09/04/2011 20:48

Do not even think about moving the trampoline. If the subject ever should come up again, just mention the stuff about the loft conversion you've already highlighted above - in the nicest possible way. Make friends and relax a bit. We all live a bit too much on top of each other. A bit of communication goes a long long way - as does a bit of falling out. You do not want to fall out! But there is no reason for you to move the trampoline. End of.

K999 · 09/04/2011 20:48

Choefleur....too funny!!

washnomore · 09/04/2011 20:49

at My Big Fat Gypsy Trampoline. Grin

Northernlurker · 09/04/2011 20:50

I think you should complain about the extension actually. If it is that intrusive it will be lowering the value and desirability of your house.

beanlet · 09/04/2011 20:54

Wish our garden were big enough for a trampoline :-(

Newgolddream · 09/04/2011 20:59

K999 - you and me think alike - I to would be tempted to get an even bigger trampoline!! Grin

My Big Fat Gypsy Trampoline - genius!

She would love our garden btw, apart from the 10 foot trampoline, the wooden play hut (not sure what height it is but it has an upstairs level and DH whos 6 foot can stand up easily in it!! Plus it has a a wire direct from our upstairs bedroom window - theres a TV in it and DH has wired up Sky in it for our boys Smile), the giant chute, the double swing frame, the seesaw, the decking on a high level that is adorned with lanterns and the numerous solar lights dotted around the garden.....we laughingly call it our streets theme park lol. DH has plans to get a new decking done this summer so we can leave up our 10 foot swimming pool for the summer. Grin

coorong · 09/04/2011 20:59

Actually you should check with about the extension. I didn't think you are allowed windows in extensions which overlook someone's house.

And I remember many years ago when working in the noise abatement unit of local government (you know, the people you complain to about loud parties). Well someone rang to complain about their neighbours making too much noise having sex on the trampoline.....

thefirstMrsDeVere · 09/04/2011 21:02

I just bought a little one for the DCs. I have been putting it off for fear of overuse of the local A&E. Then I went on this seminar thingy and they were banging on about how good they are for kids with ASD.

So I got a little one. It has an enclosure. Its big enough for one at a time.

I am going to paint it pink and put a tulle skirt round the bottom with battery operated butterflies with moving wings. And fairy lights.

And a sound system...

Newgolddream...fucking hell it sounds like Alton Towers at yours!!! Totally loving it.... Grin

Newgolddream · 09/04/2011 21:06

leroy Grin ..sorry.

Im a wee bit overweight, the one and only time I ventured onto the boys trampoline I stood in the middle terrified to move and couldnt even bring myself to bounce for fear of injuring myself!

Newgolddream · 09/04/2011 21:10

Thanks K999!

The play hut is not as extravagant as first looks, ok it cost a fair bit but 2 of my DSs share a room, they are 3 and 8 and once the 3 year old goes to bed the 8 year old cant get into the room - DH came up with the play hut idea so at least he can have friends in, watch TV etc!! Its now painted bright blue and had pirate flags flying from it, kind of stands out. Grin

thefirstMrsDeVere · 09/04/2011 21:14

I have just had our new one delivered. DS2 trashed the last one so we are getting a less trashable one. It will be painted navy blue with an orange light on the top. It will be a garden tardis.

DaydreamDollyisshrinking · 09/04/2011 21:14

This thread has been like therapy for me - my anger has disappeared, as has my awkwardness about bouncing with DD! DH just gone away for a week so the two of us are going to spend all day bouncing Grin

Oooh a garden tardis - now there's an idea!

RueLaChesty · 09/04/2011 21:17

yup as a previous poster said its against building regs to have a window overlooking your property but there are exceptions and a certain distance. But i'm talking about the scottish regs.

You can go on to the councils web page and find if they have planning permission as they should have given neighbour notification. The problem is that if you had received notification you have a certain amount of time to make a complaint and there is nothing to prove receipt of the notification so a lot of people just don't send them.

I honestly can't believe people would complain about a kids trampoline! Although i bet my neighbour would come to think of it!

thelittlestkiwi · 09/04/2011 21:17

Are you sure she actually has planning permission? Cos you should have a chance to object. If she doesn't she would have to take it down.....

heliumballoons · 09/04/2011 21:18

Im thinking hot tub - you won't be bouncing up and down over the fence so if she complains about the 'bouncing' you know she's been spying from the loft. Grin
