... when I see pre-school children with rotten/rotting teeth?

yabu my ds teeth had brown marks which were turning into holes on the front for a good 12 months before the dentist would actually do anything and its not because he doesnt brush them or because he eats too much crap although he does have a lot of biscuits its because i didnt know i was expecting till almost 6 months and had an operation followed by a lot of pain relief which the dentist said will have caused this as its around the time his teeth would have been forming in his gums. Dont always judge unless you KNOW its down to parents neglecting their childrens teeth.

LaWeasel · 09/04/2011 17:36

Some children are born with no/not much enamel so there teeth rot from normal eating and drinking despite regular tooth care.

Some parents don't know that things like juice in a bottle is bad for their childrens teeth.

GypsyMoth · 09/04/2011 17:36

judge all you like,how nasty!!!

usualsuspect · 09/04/2011 17:38

what a stupid thread

nickelbaalamb · 09/04/2011 17:38

YABU.

I had shed loads of fillings and also some teeth pulled out with my milk teeth.

my adult teeth are very strong and wonderful.

amberleaf · 09/04/2011 17:39

YABVU

There many reasons why this happens.

Its not always coca cola in a sippy cup.

Personally I haven't noticed any pre school children with rotting teeth, however I don't go around examining other people's children for faults. This is actually a new concept to me, something I've only noticed since coming across Mumsnet.
So yes I would say you are being unreasonable OP. And a few other things as well.

EllAEllO · 09/04/2011 17:46

DD had an awful lot of teeth taken out when she was 5 because of a fluoride deficiency. She had a good diet, and regular brushing.
She's now needing a brace because her big teeth came before her jaw was ready.

DS is 4 and had lovely perfect teeth. No because I'm a better parent this time, just because.

Even decay caused by too much sugar is not your place to judge.

Worry about your, and your DCs teeth, and let everyone else worry about their own.

EllAEllO · 09/04/2011 17:46

I forgot to say. YABU.

GypsyMoth · 09/04/2011 17:47

yes,also forget to say YABU!!!

cheesesarnie · 09/04/2011 17:47

yep yabu.but its not your fault that youre naive and bit rubbish.have a pat on the head dear.

princessparty · 09/04/2011 17:48

Some of my DS1s son's back baby teeth came up with no enamel on them. Also I think some antibiotics given to under 2s can cause it too.
You need to know what the fuck you are talking about before you judge others.

Nancy66 · 09/04/2011 17:50

milk teeth stain far more easily than adult teeth. Lots of kids have bad looking teeth - doesn't follow that they're eating crap

spidookly · 09/04/2011 17:51

yabvu

But if judging parents for the medical conditions their children have makes you feel good about yourself, on you go.

Pancakeflipper · 09/04/2011 17:51

Hope you get a painful wedgie in your judgy pants.

Jennytailia · 09/04/2011 17:55

Just because you are mentioning judgeypants doesn't mean you aren't being snobby and horrid

YABU

peeriebear · 09/04/2011 17:58

YABU. My brother's baby teeth came through brown because of ABs my mum had when she was pregnant.

doley · 09/04/2011 17:59

Silly question :(

My youngest son was born without enamel on his back teeth ,if I hadn't had them capped [shocked] his teeth would appear rotton to you too !!!!

This son really takes care of his teeth ,my eldest is very lazy ~guess what ?no fillings ...

I will bet your judgy pants are unfashionable Grin

peeriebear · 09/04/2011 18:00

Actually I'm not sure, it was either when my mum had them or when he contracted salmonella as a baby and was treated with ABs. One or t'other.

Guys, I am genuinely very, very sorry for upsetting so many of you.

You're right, I don't know anything about what might cause this, in fact this is the first child I have seen with teeth like that. I just assumed, wrongly, that it was extremely uncommon and therefore a result of poor diet.

Please forgive me for the offence caused, I will definitely think harder before I start a thread next time.

Sorry again. [Sad]

YABU both DDs and I have very deep crevices in our molars and have fillings. There's not a lot we can do about that either.

Mind you, I do judge when I see children drinking coke etc out of a bottle.
