I confess. I am somewhat excited about this here wedding. I'm not a massive royal fan. I'm not usually bothered one way or tother what they do.

But..... I like a nice wedding. I like wearing nice summery frocks and i like nice nibbly food.

My whole entire family and circle of aquaintances think i am somewhat bonkers so i shan't be inviting them. this will be a nice summery reception party for one.

I intend to wear my frock, eat my nibbles and watch and enjoy the aforesaid wedding on my own.

AIBU?

I'm so not into the Royals either but I too am quite looking forward to the wedding.

However I have to give you a YABU purely for the fact you called your dress a frock Grin

AtYourCervix · 08/04/2011 18:20

i shall have meringues.

and some cheese

and smoked salmon

and perhaps a drop of champagne.

I don't understand the concept of celebrating the wedding of someone you have never met and never will. So in that respect yes YABU and a bit strange. Having a get together when everyone is off work is a nice enough idea though. I also have serious issues with the word 'frock'. It brings to mind of 1980's Laura Ashley, shirt waist, puffy sleeves - you get the picture, which would automatically make your nibbles vol au vents. This is a disturbing image.

grovel · 08/04/2011 18:26

Spiffing wheeze in my opinion.

pigletmania · 08/04/2011 18:28

piglet puts on her nice Coast dress and joins Atyourcervix for a nice Royal WEdding celebration, and a good excuse for a good old knees up Smile

AtYourCervix · 08/04/2011 18:42

thanks piglet. you may share my champagne and nibbles. the rest of you killjoys are Not Invited. humph.

May I come? If I wear a hat and gloves and bring cucumber sandwiches?

DH has somehow booked us in for a picnic with a bunch of Italian anarchists that day. They are lovely friendly interesting people but I'm still heartbroken.

Geocentric · 08/04/2011 18:53

We'll have an online party, that would be fun!! And we can all say we're wearing nice dresses even if we're not... Wink

AtYourCervix · 08/04/2011 18:56

can you develop something contageous yet non-painful toerags?

where would one buy gloves in 2011?

We have a weekly playgroup amongst friends, so I have offered to host at ours on that day. Have planned PIMMS, cucumber sandwiches, lemon/raspberry muffins, fairy bread for the kids, and will talk a friend into making some scones. I even have bunting ordered and organised a table setting (thanks IKEA).

Yes I don't know them, but there is so much misery in the world, it's a nice thing to celebrate and get into the spirit of it. Besides if I bumped into a b&g on the street that I didn't know, I'd still wish them well and feel a little bit cheery at their happiness.

EggyAllenPoe · 08/04/2011 19:09

don't they still do gloves in Selfridges? Fortnums?

random bridal shops?

i think it sounds like a lovely idea.

toeragsnotriches · 08/04/2011 19:09

Maybe 'not anarchistic enough itis' will fit the bill. I have no body piercings or tattoos, do not wear lots of black, ride a bike very well or have interesting hair. I am also very much looking forward to the wedding. Do you think my mainstreamity could be catching?

I am the proud owner of a lovely lace pair of gloves that belonged to my grandma but couldn't tell you where to buy em. And could probably find a nice hat at the Wayside Community Centre charity shop.

So think of me on the glorious 29th. I'll be sneaking off into the bushes for a quick shuftie at the old iphone.

AtYourCremeEggs · 08/04/2011 19:12

i think maybe if you dress up weddingy, and talk a lot about dear william and Catherine, they'll politely ask you to leave the anarchy picnic and you can pop over and sharemy nibbles.

Geocentric · 08/04/2011 19:13

I have lace gloves!! I bought them in Brussels when I was 17...

toeragsnotriches · 08/04/2011 19:17

I dig them out occasionally and freak DH out by unexpectedly touching him with them! It really creeps him out. Mwah ha ha.

And yes! I can be the force of anarchy at the anarchy picnic Grin !

toeragsnotriches · 08/04/2011 19:18

And thanks for the offer of the nibbles. I'll be there. All weddingy and lovely. Ahh.

MissJanuary · 08/04/2011 19:55

I will wear my best frock and indulge in said nibbles and content in the knowledge I will not be alone. Thank you atyourcervix

MrsBananaGrabber · 08/04/2011 19:58

I think you will have a wonderful time Wink. I live abroad and I fully intend to get up early, not send the DS's to school, dress the baby in red, white and blue and have a jolly good time.

pigletmania · 08/04/2011 19:59

I will bring some brute Grin and some sausages on sticks too, oooh and some yummy victorian sponge cake to have with a bit of tea Grin

Bonsoir · 08/04/2011 20:00

DD and I are looking forward to watching the wedding on television and she will wear her tiara Grin

LittleMissFluffBrain · 08/04/2011 20:03

YANBU. I'm not particularly a Royal fan, can take them or leave them. I AM looking forward to the wedding though as I love a good wedding and want to check out her dress etc Smile
My motto's always been 'any excuse for a party' so I'm planning on having an English themed buffet party while it's on (just me, DH, the kids and poss MIL) just because we can! Grin
(Heads in direction of local shops looking for flags to wav) Grin

TrillianAstra · 08/04/2011 20:04

What is fairy bread?

Who would turn down the opportunity to wear a posh frock and have posh nibbles?

Skifit · 08/04/2011 20:06

Can i come please, and i will bring Bucks Fizz and oodles of nibbles.!!! lol
...and get totally 'Trollied' and drunk!!
I will watch the Royal Wedding as i always do with Royal occasions and I think Prince William and Kate are lovely people and in touch with modern day life, and very normal people,...... unlike his father .

TurkeyBurgerThing · 08/04/2011 20:06

We are having a massive pissup as it seems like the perfect excuse Royal wedding party too. No fancy frocks here though...tis all fancy dress!

AtYourCremeEgg · 08/04/2011 20:14
