It just makes me cringe. I have told him I don't like it.

ugh. can he not be bothered to remember your name?

GeekCool · 06/04/2011 14:57

Maybe try telling him again? Seems a petty thing to finish with someone for. Are you sure that's all it is?
So I do think YABABU

LaurieFairyCake · 06/04/2011 14:58

Haven't you seen 'Dirty Dancing'?

Does he look like Swayze from 30 years ago? Grin

thesnowmanleft · 06/04/2011 15:00

Tell him why you don't like it. i.e. you're a woman not a baby... if he doesnt respect that then maybe it's a bad sign of things to come...

Desperateforthinnerthighs · 06/04/2011 15:00

YANBU - however, it is marginally better than being called "doll"

Seriously though, you arent really gonna dump him just for that Hmm

PainteditRed · 06/04/2011 15:01

Hahhahaa. Dirty Dancing is one of my favourite films.

Actually I'm a dancer by trade, maybe he thinks he's being 'relevant'

well hell no.

And minipie. Sometimes he adds my name to the baby i.e 'Baby Doris'

Double yuck.

DH calls me this. Not every time he speaks to me but sometimes. I think it is sweet. What is the big deal?

EricNorthmansMistress · 06/04/2011 15:01

Tell him you don't like it!

Desperateforthinnerthighs · 06/04/2011 15:02

But the real question is......does he put you in the corner?? Grin

JeffTracy · 06/04/2011 15:04

YANBU sugar puff Grin

GollyHolightly · 06/04/2011 15:04

Ewww. Tell him it's a dealbreaker.

A friend of mine broke it off with a guy because when he took out for sunday lunch, he ordered 'moo cow' hahahaha Grin

RosyApples · 06/04/2011 15:04

Most people have their pet hates but it seems a bit petty to dump him over it. Makes me think you can't be that fond of him in the first place.

PainteditRed · 06/04/2011 15:04

Desperateforinnerthighs. After a 9 year abusive relationship, a short but sweet one , a couple of years single to sort my head out and many bad dates I do feel free to 'dump' someone on a whim, yes.

I carried a Watermelon for him, but that's another thread....

It could be worse, he could be calling you 'hot lips' or 'sugar tits' I once dated a guy that called me both of those things, I dumped his ass in less than a week.

PumpkinBones · 06/04/2011 15:06

I call people baby, darling and honey. Its just how some people talk. If he's as nice as he sounds, just accept it is something that annoys you. Everyone with a long term partner finds lots of things about them really quite irritating. Think of this as the beginning of your own journey of discovering what those things are together!

Desperateforthinnerthighs · 06/04/2011 15:08

I once had a boyfriend call me "sugar pie" or "honey pie" or something - he made me shudder........the beer goggles came off and he was history!

Ephiny · 06/04/2011 15:09

It's not the worst thing in the world he could call you! But if you really don't like it, and have said so, he should respect that - I'd be more worried about him ignoring your wishes than using a silly pet name in the first place.

Tbh I wouldn't like it much either.

PainteditRed · 06/04/2011 15:10

Be my baby nooooooow wooh oh oh oh

(rummages through dvds for dirty dancing)

If you really think of him as "very lovely, intelligent and hot", I think you owe it to yourself and to him to explain very clearly that you really hate being called "baby".

Does "very lovely, intelligent and hot" mean "I think this guy is wonderful on paper, but I somehow don't want a relationship with him" and you're searching for a justification why he's not right?

UrsulaUndress · 06/04/2011 15:12

Baby's not great, but you've called him hot which is one of my pet hates so I'm afraid it's one all in my eyes!

TerrysNo2 · 06/04/2011 15:17

Why don't you start calling him sugar plum or sweetcheeks and see if he likes it!

PainteditRed · 06/04/2011 15:20

Can I bring an errant voice to this thread. I have just been on the phone to a friend and she speaks the truth.

'you like him , he likes you, why haven't you had sex yet'

me 'Because 'insert excuse after excuse here'

'well you are not ready for relationships yet, let the poor man down gently won't you'

damn her for being so right

Stropperella · 06/04/2011 15:20

Has he not seen Austin Powers?

Malificence · 06/04/2011 15:20

I saw a facebook post to DD from her boyfriend ( she's 21) he called her "babygirl" - I nearly puked, but as long as she likes it Hmm .

DH has never called me baby / babe or any other derivative , if he did I would have to castrate him with a rusty spoon. He does call me "cowbag" sometimes, I don't mind that, it's preferable to baby any day.
