Just read an article.

Its about a family with 3 DC's who all breastfeed - oldest is 13yo. Also the DH breastfeeds as his parents both died of cancer and it's meant to have poitive antibodies.

Now I read the article very pleased this family did what they felt best, and very Envy as I wanted to BF my DS but milk stopped at 7 weeks. Sad

Mum talked about how her DC's are never ill, grade A, sporty students and how she has done the best for them.

Now here comes the judgy AIBU bit.

The 13yo is 10st and visibly obese. I actually went Shock and then Hmm when I read this bit and saw his picture.

I am B very U aren't I. Blush

Thirteen years old? Really? That is some fucked up shit right there.

Yes it is. You know it is.

Link?

It's normal to be judgey about other people, it's how we feel better about ourselves. However your judgement means nothing.

Jaydles · 04/04/2011 21:00

Did I read that right? The husband breastfeeds?! Please tell me my tired eyes are deceiving me. That to quote marmaladetwatkins is some fucked up shit

Goodynuff · 04/04/2011 21:01

link please

marmaladetwatkins · 04/04/2011 21:02

If it is real, it is all kinds of wrong. It's THIS kind of weirdy-beardy piffle that gives BFing a bad name.

CrapBag · 04/04/2011 21:02

Hang on, you don't mean she is still BF a 13 year old and her DH?

FudgeGirl · 04/04/2011 21:06

Sorry, can't believe it.

13 years old? Bollocks.

Thought that it was the case that physiological changes meant that as children get older, their jaw shape changes (grows) to a point where one can't breastfeed any more. Would have thought that would apply to the DH too.

I'm all for extended feeding. DC3 is 18 months and still going (very) strong (have fed him longer than the older 2 children who weren't as interested after 1). But I cannot cannot cannot believe that someone would breastfeed their 13 year old.

CrapBag · 04/04/2011 21:10

There was a story (complete with picture) of a woman BF her dad who had cancer before. I can't remember what magazine it was but it was something like Take a Break.

MrsPresley · 04/04/2011 21:11

I saw that in the magazine last week, and there's not much that really disgusts me but that did!

It was That's Life or something similar, there was also another thread here (I think) about it.

I'm all for BF if possible but at 13?? There's something seriously wrong with that!

Oh and the photo showed him BF! or at least gave the impression of it!

I remember seeing a woman's mag with the same story in ages ago - at least a year or so. Anyway I really don't think it's true.

I think it's propoganda to make a mockery of breastfeeders, to be honest. And I am not a rabid breastfeeder!!!

meliesmummy · 04/04/2011 21:20

Have you also seen the one with the woman who bfs her cat and dog??!!!

MerryMarigold · 04/04/2011 21:21

People will say anything for the twenty quid or whatever it is 'That's Life' give you for a story! (or maybe it's the one day of fame they're after, even if it is Hmm fame]. I never believe those stories.

meliesmummy · 04/04/2011 21:22

There were photos...

heliumballoons · 04/04/2011 21:25

No I'm here. It was Take a Break I think. I have heard before of a lady BF her own father because of the protection against some kind of cancer.

I'm actually not judging the BF - each to their own. But the whole look at me how much good I do my wonderful intelligent children. But overlooks the fact her 13yo is obese - surely that is worse than him not getting breastmilk?

OP posts:
MerryMarigold · 04/04/2011 21:25

Yes, there were posed photos. Maybe she gave her teenager a fiver to spend on sweets.

PunkPixie · 04/04/2011 21:27

People accuse me of having a mind so open that it may well fall out at any minute but even I can't play Devil's advocate with this one and justify it.

If the milk was being used in cooking or expressed for people to drink then I wouldn't have a problem with it at all but getting your 13 y/o to latch on to wet the whistle is all sorts of crazy! I defy anyone to state with certainty that this won't fuck the boy up in the head on some level if it hasn't already.

MerryMarigold · 04/04/2011 21:29

It won't because it doesn't actually happen. There you are. I will play Devil's Advocate
