AIBU to think that the 'dog' in Covent Garden is really a 'dirty dog'?

Has anyone seen the 'dog' in CG that stands alongside the statues? I think he is absolutely disgusting. I saw him last year when I was taking a friend visiting England around London. He made the most vile comment to her. I saw him again today and he makes me feel physically sick.

Perhaps he is your DH? Perhaps he is someone you love. Please shed some light, but before you do, please pass the bucket!!

Did he show you dragonbutter?!?

Bexstar5 · 02/04/2011 22:19

Ok, ok, ok! He started saying things like "you look tasty, I'd like to lick you", "come here, I've got something that wants licking", "let me sniff you" etc etc and my friend wasn't too happy (obviously?). Anyway, she is Thai and he then went on to say something like, "come and give me a Thai massage and I'll be coming all the way to Thailand" - I really can't remember word for word but rest assured, it was wrong. Well, to us anyway. My friend was offended. Precious? I don't think so.

I apologise because it was over a year ago and I can't remember word for word so the above is not exactly what he said but it was stuff about licking and sniffing and coming. Really too sexual.

It's not nice. It would make me feel very uncomfortable. I sort of hate those street performers anyway or at least I hate the ones who seem to pick on shy/sensitive/vulnerable people and make fools of them. I'm not overly confident so it upsets me if they approach me.

Bexstar5 · 02/04/2011 22:25

Thanks, Bertie! Agreed.

Er, Blackcoffee, am I behind the times or what? What the feck is a dragonbutter??? I want to know!

Sorry if I am coming across as precious. My friend was offended and I felt appalled that I had taken her to see "the sights of London" and she got a 'licking' (sorry for BAD pun) from a bleeding dog!!! In a basket, at that!

I just don't like him. It was worse than I put it - I just can't remember word for word. Nasty. In front of my young DD. Nasty, nasty.

And YES, we walked away.

GotArt · 02/04/2011 22:27

OK... ya a little tasteless. Especially in front of an audience that may have children old enough to ask what he meant about the something that needs licking. Kudos though for knowing that your friend was Thai, as most people wouldn't but the comment was inappropriate.

I thought for sure there was going to be some reference to doing her doggy style. Grin

lololizzy · 02/04/2011 22:27

i don't know how to put a link but if you google this
' Living statues - the art of not falling over '
is this him? it gives his actual name if so!

squeakytoy · 02/04/2011 22:28

So why on earth did you go back past him for a second time???

And I do know that it is possible to avoid any of the street performers, you dont have to walk past them!

GotArt · 02/04/2011 22:28

I think its funny that he would be so crass while being in such a precarious position in half under that table... someone could really kick his ass. Grin

Blackcoffeeandcigarettes · 02/04/2011 22:30

Hmmm... I might of given him the finger, but I wouldn't be upset enough to remember and hold a grudge for a year! Honestly, my customers in work (and no im not a prostitute or anything, I work in cosmetics) have said worse to me. And I'm not phased. I don't think it was that bad. But if he upset you than that's wrong of him. Your dd at the age of 5 wouldn't understand what he was saying, she was probably picking up on your anxiety. Sounds like he just struggles with boundrys. Saying that he's a man dressed as a dog in yhe middle of london, his boundries are clearly confused

Skinit · 02/04/2011 22:30

It was over a year ago! Good God! YANBU at all but you should have done something THEN! Not waited a year and then come on here!

givemushypeasachance · 02/04/2011 22:30

Inuendos based around licking and coming are surely going to go over the heads of small children. I wouldn't be overly impressed but that's not actually offensive language.

Don't Covent Garden street performers have to be licenced by someone? You could try writing to them and see if they have a "code of conduct" or something that performers have to follow, and if this sort of too-close-to-the-edge commentary is in breach of anything.

Skinit · 02/04/2011 22:31

Remindsme of Miranda in Sex and the City when that sandwich man kept saying "Eat me" and she complined! And the man said "He's a sandwich!"

Maybe the dog would say the same.

Skinit · 02/04/2011 22:32

Anyway...if the filty thing had said that to me I'd have hauled him out of that stupid box by the ear and kicked his arse round Covent Garden.

Probably.

Or got a Poleeeecman!

Blackcoffeeandcigarettes · 02/04/2011 22:33

Google dragon butter and blue waffle, it will offend you. I Learnt about dragon butter on mumsnet. Its vile. But peoples reactions to it are hysterical. Like 2 girls one cup!!! (have never seen it but peoples reactions to it are enough to make ne squirm)

GotArt · 02/04/2011 22:38

Skinit lol at hauling out of the stupid box... me too.

They even did a spoof of the 2 girls one cup on Family Guy. lol

Blackcoffeeandcigarettes · 02/04/2011 22:42

I saw it! I love family guy and American dad, so wrong on so many levels, but you WILL laugh!

catchmeifyoucan · 02/04/2011 22:42

A year ago??? Dear God - and you're still stewing about it? Do you think maybe you need to move on a little here?

Bexstar5 · 02/04/2011 22:43

Ok - about to google now. Let you know...

In answer to other questions about leaving it a year and blah blah blah. I wasn't as offended as my friend. I wasn't concerned that DD (who was 2 not 5) understood because I knew she didn't - her reaction to not liking him was obviously an on sight thing. I had actually forgotten about him but as I was there today, I passed him and it brought it all flooding back - oh the memories! I just think he is a dirty dog, literally. Only wanted to hear other experiences of him. This is all getting way too serious.

But. He is disgusting. I did want to kick his table away but feared what he might be doing under it! Also, I watch my behaviour in front of my DD and I would not want to act aggresively or the like in her presence.

squeakytoy · 02/04/2011 22:44

It is covent garden, not a puppet show at a soft play centre. Some of the acts there are known to be a bit risque.

Dogs do lick, and it is a rude play on words what he said, but its not all that bad. I would have just laughed and said "dirty dog".

squeakytoy · 02/04/2011 22:46

But. He is disgusting. I did want to kick his table away but feared what he might be doing under it!

no doubt furiously tugging himself.... Hmm .... you are now beginning to sound ever so slightly deranged you know... Grin

Bexstar5 · 02/04/2011 22:46

Not a year on exactly! I wish ppl would read the op or all the way through. For those that are too dim - sorry, I mean for those that don't read threads properly - I am only bringing it up because I saw dirty dog today and I wondered what other ppl's experiences of him were. Oh dear, give me strength.

Blackcoffeeandcigarettes · 02/04/2011 22:47

I learnt about blue waffle when I had the most horiffic hangover in my life. My best friend sent it to me to make me feel better, I opened it and threw up. Just think about my awful state when you google it. It's my favourite thing to send to Hungover people. Revenge

squeakytoy · 02/04/2011 22:49

I wish ppl would read the op or all the way through

And I wish people would actually get to their point and explain properly in their first post, not over three hours later on the third page, but we cant all have what we want. Wink

Bexstar5 · 02/04/2011 22:49

Yes, Squeaky. I probably am deranged! And I know it is CG and not a soft play area. I also know dogs lick. But it isn't even about all that. Oh, I don't know. I only wanted to see what others thought about him that have experienced him. Now it is getting into some complete other debate!!

I still say, he is creepy and disgusting.

OP posts:
catchmeifyoucan · 02/04/2011 22:51

Well sorry OP but I have to agree with squeaky. You DO sound a bit unhinged and I honestly don't think a big cosmopolitan city is for you.
