leggings without a long top or dress?

I don't want to see women's bum cheeks in detail not shudder a camel's toe.

Do people not use mirrors any more?

Leggings have been back in fashion now for two years, I was hoping they wouldn't be fashionable this year, I wouldn't be seen dead in them.

Some just look gross, I think the c-thru ones are just cheap ones from Primark!

IreneHeron · 30/03/2011 17:15

That's why they went out of fashion last time around in the eighties. They were a crime then and are a crime now. Having said that I was considering a very stout pair of [shudders] black jegging things to go with a dress that is too short and muttonish for me to wear at my age with tights.

Bucharest · 30/03/2011 17:18

I've been having a moral dilemma about this very thing.....one of the schoolmums wears a very thin pair, without a tunic top....actually, I don't think they are even cheapo-pretending to be leggings, I think they are thick tights. At any rate, you can see white skin and pants straight through them.

Should I tell her....? (I can't, don't make me, I don't know her well enough, even though I have seen her bumGrin)

ENormaSnob · 30/03/2011 17:23

Hideous.

oldwomaninashoe · 30/03/2011 17:27

Just wait until the warm weather and we are subjected to all shapes and sizes of arse cheeks hanging out of minute shorts Blush

AgentZigzag · 30/03/2011 17:27

YY tell her bucharest, she needs to know the truth Grin

Pagwatch · 30/03/2011 17:29

You can't tell. That is def shoot the messenger territory.

It does look really awful . On everyone. But especially those with really bad cellulite.

Seriously bad.

DontGoCurly · 30/03/2011 17:52

The see through ones ARE cheapies from Primark, I've got them, the more you wash them the more transparent they get! A long top/dress is definitely mandatory. If Megan Fox can't get away with it then us mere mortals cant. The worst is when a g-string is worn underneath and no long top. Makes arse cheeks look really huge, long and pendulous! Ew!

Cher87 · 30/03/2011 17:59

My sister does this! and she is not blessed with a body like Megan Fox (neither am I for that matter Sad ) but a camel toe is the least of her worries. She wears a thong with them you can see straight through them, being the good sister that I am I tell her this and her response?....... 'SO?'!!!!

SecretNutellaFix · 30/03/2011 18:03

I've seen one ample-bottomed young woman wearing the cheapy thin ones which must have been at least a size or two too small because you could see them straining at the seams and her tunic top had ridden up and there was a laddered hole through which you could see her underwear.

If she hadn't been with a friend of hers, talking, I would have spoken up. But she was oblivious, gassing as she walked away.

SummerRain · 30/03/2011 18:06

I saw a hugely overweight woman in the supermarket one day wearing lace leggings and a top that came to her waist. Unfortunately the knowledge that she was going commando is seared into my brain for all eternity. [vomit]

Olifin · 30/03/2011 18:09

@ commando under lace leggings. There have been some quite shocking accounts of legging crime shared on this thread.

I'm so glad most agree I'm not BU. :)

mollymole · 30/03/2011 18:12

agree that legging (if you must wear them) should have a long tunic top or dress with them - never, ever, anything shorter than mid thigh
also detest trainers with skirts (not young girls wearing trainers with a trendy mini) - those women who wear a knee length or longer skirt and then trainers, with or without tights - terrible sight !

Prunnhilda · 30/03/2011 18:15

I see legging crimes (and a few years ago it was grey-tinged muffin-top crimes but we've got into long tops now thank feck ) and I have this internal conversation that goes 'Well it is a feminist triumph that women can dress how they like and answer to nobody about it but OH MY EYES that is quite an abomination how CAN anyone go out of the house like that' and I never know which is the better thought Grin

talkingnonsense · 30/03/2011 18:18

Well I don't mind if they are the elasticcy work out kind at the gym- don't know what to call them! But otherwise completely agree, I only wear with short dresses and big boots!

Bucharest · 30/03/2011 18:20

Just to add to general hideous thoughts.....my friend is a leg waxer (what is the technical term, beautician???) and the legging woman goes to her, so I know, but coincidentally, that under those leggings, the woman also has a Brazilian because her husband (who is 30 yrs older than her) likes her to be smooth. (Is it a Brazilian when you have it all taken off??? (or rather )

Legging woman also wears these bizarre gathered round ankle romper suit things. (think what you'd put your toddler in but in a size 16)

I might take some sneaky pics and put them on my profile.

Bucharest · 30/03/2011 18:21

Oooh very dodgy formatting there. Wtf?

onehotmomma · 30/03/2011 18:21

I live in my leggings Blush BUT I always make sure my arse is covered with long tops and cardigans

BulletWithAName · 30/03/2011 18:22

I have Primark ones and they aren't see through, the light control ones are made out of lycra, not a cotton/lycra blend, hence why they keep their shape, do not bag at the knees and don't go see through.

It is a crime against fashion to wear them with a short top though, YANBU!

Was about to suggest the exact same thing! Maybe we could start a blog?

Bucharest · 30/03/2011 18:26

I only wore them first time around, when I was young and lithe. Always Miss Selfridge, phenomenally expensive at the time (for me) but my God the lycra would have held a suspension bridge up. (I had a catsuit as well Shock)

BulletWithAName · 30/03/2011 18:27

Oh please start a blog about it, I need a laugh! (I'd quite like to contribute to it too Grin)

Mandy2003 · 30/03/2011 18:42

Summer Rain - that has got to be one for Seen in Walmart - sorry don't have time to do the link atm.

Bucharest - I am a bit smug because I am re-wearing my original properly made leggings! My mate is constantly moaning about the Primark ones quality.

Now I'll give you a real boak = Men In Leggings! It is true I tell you, my exDP in the '80s wore them to Pineapple Dance Studio, with a vest top!! Had dramatic pretensions you see, is probably a famous actor now Hmm

Prunnhilda · 30/03/2011 18:50

That man is a very odd shape. His head is well-strange.
