To let DD14 have party in house while we're out?

It's her birthday. She is, (raging hormones aside), a lovely, responsible girl. In a moment of weakness, I said she could have her friends over on Saturday night and me and DH would go out. This has now turned into a 'party'. She keeps refering to how excited she is about her 'party'.

As far as I know, just a handful of girls and boys will be coming over. But who knows what will happen. Am I mad? Your experiences please?

well i hope its quick these pesky night feeds do tend to end ones mumsnetting sessions very early on these days < sits back and waits for some advice on that from a young person>

ledkr · 28/03/2011 22:56
Hmm
PeterAndreForPM · 28/03/2011 22:57

well, FR, I guess all I can is my 16 yo will not be allowed a house party

and that's all that matters really, isn't it ?

PeterAndreForPM · 28/03/2011 22:57

all I can say

ForgetRegret · 28/03/2011 22:58

Why is a sixteen year old on mumsnet at this hour? Let's just say I stumbled onto AIBU a few days ago and got hooked on some of the hilarious threads I found and since then have been lurking. I was about to go to bed when I found this, and due to the very recent circumstance of my party, felt the need to comment.

PeterAndreForPM · 28/03/2011 22:58

FR...do you have any advice on breastfeeding for ledkr ?

she is in need of some wise words Smile

PeterAndreForPM · 28/03/2011 22:59

yep, and I am Katie Price's ex husband Grin

BitOfFun · 28/03/2011 23:00

16 isn't a young adult, that would be an eighteen or nineteen year-old. And while it is perfectly valid that a parent may know their own child enough to consider them responsible, I think it would be foolish to assume the same thing of all their acquaintances.

BitOfFun · 28/03/2011 23:01

We do get articulate teenagers on here from time to time. They generally turn out to be the same middle-aged man though.

PeterAndreForPM · 28/03/2011 23:02
Grin

I really am Katie Price's ex husband, btw

ForgetRegret · 28/03/2011 23:03

I'm terribly sorry, but I have no expirience with breast feeding and so perhaps you are better off asking the Breat Feeding Trust? :)

PeterAndreForPM · 28/03/2011 23:05

Good answer Smile

Clever use of mis-spellings too ..

Wow, I've just been called a middle aged man. Nice. I'll take the comment on my articulate manner of writing as a complement (A* in GCSE English Literature)

suzikettles · 28/03/2011 23:05

I trusted my friends. I didn't post about my party on Facebook (for I am an old gimmer and such a thing did not exist). Unfortunately it turned out that one of my friends had a thing for a guy in a pub so invited him to my party. And as detailed up thread he pissed on the doorstep and smashed windows.

These things can go tits up no matter how responsible you are if you invite more than your very closest friends. I'd guess that after about 8 people you're not fully in control at that age.

PeterAndreForPM · 28/03/2011 23:06

Mary, telling the truth isn't boasting

here, feel my pecs...are they not real ?

Nobody has called you anything, FR. I am merely observing a general trend. They do all have excellent academic results too, funnily enough. Often a bit older, pregnant and Oxbridge-bound etc., but there have been Extended variations.

PeterAndreForPM · 28/03/2011 23:15

yes, it is very fick, mary, you are correct

ForgetRegret · 28/03/2011 23:16

Sucks, I wish I was Oxbridge bound. If you do get people like that, I wonder what makes them feel the need to lie to strangers in anonymous forums?

ledkr · 28/03/2011 23:18

bof how do you know this what have i missed? Is it late at night when i am slumbering? Is it pregnant old men?Am i confused?

catinthehat2 · 28/03/2011 23:22

Are you saying FR may not be what he claims to be?
Shock

catinthehat2 · 28/03/2011 23:23

Sorry, "may not be what she claims to be?"

BitOfFun · 28/03/2011 23:24

It's that bloke Steve, ledkr. He likes to pretend to be an intelligent young person struggling to overcome adversity. It's either trying out a character for the novel he wants to write, or resolving some deep personal issues, I think. Who can tell? I always wonder if he's the same bloke as the one who used to work from home with the slow-burning prostate-massager up his hoo-ha. Probably.
