I have one of those Tangleteezers for my DDs hair...they're both curly and it works well. MIL is visiting from abroad and she keeps picking it up and brushing her hair with it.

should I say somrthing? Hide it? She's got loads of dandruff and its gross to me...surely it's rude/overstepping boundries?

AIBU??

YANBU.

Olessaty · 28/03/2011 10:47

I share with family members only.

wahwahwah · 28/03/2011 10:47

Yuk. Hide the hairbrush or drop into the conversation that the kids have nits.

AtYourCervix · 28/03/2011 10:47

not just rude but dirty.

YANBU, it is unhygienic. I don't think its gross though. Why not advise her not to use it in case your DD has nits. Tell her you always treat nits, but you think she may have them sometimes for a day or two before you notice. She will stop using it!

DontGoCurly · 28/03/2011 10:49

Yeh! YANBU -hide the brush.

Skinit · 28/03/2011 11:09

Oh good! I thought I was BU! I am a bit of a clean freak.

It makes me feel a bit sick the idea of someone outside my own immediate family using our tangleteaser. Do buy one if you are hesitating, it's the best 20 euros I've ever spent.

DramaInPyjamas · 28/03/2011 13:12

I share with the kids and that's it.

Did she not bring a brush with her?

dolldaggabuzzbuzz · 28/03/2011 13:15

I would buy a brush especially for MIL to use when she visits

springbokdoc · 28/03/2011 13:22

YADNBU - even with my own mom I always ask first. Second the nit idea.

Skinit · 28/03/2011 13:24

Drama she usually has a comb in her bag....she kind of does it in an absent minded fashion.

doll she's a grown woman! She can get her own surely!

I would hate it too but think its just me, now I can see it isn't!

Remember when BIL and family came to stay once. SIL used hairbrush on her DD then told me later (after watching me brush DDs hair) that DN had nits- fucking great! I now hide the hairbrush whenever they're here!

Skinit · 28/03/2011 13:25

People are weird! Hair carries more germs than anything!

Always need to ask before using someone elses brush/comb. And not be surprised if they say no!

Am looking at the tangleteezer though....

nailak · 28/03/2011 14:23

what is a tanle teaser?

bemybebe · 28/03/2011 14:35

I only share things with my dh, nobody else and I hate any thought of doing it.

Bramshott · 28/03/2011 14:36

I quite often pinch my mum's Blush . . .

Scylla · 28/03/2011 15:42

Golly gosh it would never occur to me that people would object so strongly to my borrowing a hairbrush! Most adults don't have nits, so where's the harm? Dandruff's only flaky skin, it ain't catching, it's not "dirty". Hair full of germs? I think that's an exaggeration. Hands, yes, you really don't know where they've been.....but hair?

Can I just ask, would you feel so strongly about it if it were your own mother?

ViolaTricolor · 28/03/2011 15:47

Urgh, I wouldn't like this either. It's the kind of thing teenage girls do all the time, along with diving into each other's mascara and lipgloss, but I wouldn't expect an adult to do it without asking, and only then in an emergency.

RoyalBlingThing · 28/03/2011 15:53

Tangleteezers are fab!
My bestest bestest ever friend had forgotten a brush at the gym and asked to borrow mine... I must admit I did hesitate... I'm not sure why as she certainly doesn't have nits .. I think tbh hair to me is very personal ..its like someone asking to borrow your razor...

(I did let her tangleteeze then washed it)

Needanewname · 28/03/2011 16:23

I would also hate it it my mum borowed my brush, but as and when she asks I smile sweetly and say sure. Doesn't stop me hating it though!

Why don;t you buy her one and say I noticed you like the DC brush, here you go, thought I'd get you your own, your happy, shes happy no ones been insulted or thought of as being precious!
