to wonder if MN can actually agree on there being a person in the public eye who we all admire?

Is there any celebrity well known person that is admired/deemed acceptable by the whole of MN?

I doubt it.

Grin

I'll start by throwing Lauren Laverne and Timmy Mallet into the mix.

It's Dolly all the way for me. Partly for refusing to let Elvis have I Will Always Love You (when she was penniless) making a mint as a result, partly for Dollywood and - well, she just rocks, doesn't she?

Please God no to Jamie. He makes me want to do terrible things. I cannot stand him now.

Scuttlebutter · 24/03/2011 23:46

Another vote here for Dolly and for Lance Armstrong - he didn't start dating Sheryl Crow till after his divorce, by the way. He was hugely inspiring to me when I was going through cancer - my GP recommended his book to me. I love Dolly - when I had cancer I made myself two promises - if I recovered I would do a complete Ring Cycle and go to Dollywood. I've done the Ring (wondrous - I love Wagner) and now am saving my pennies to go to Pigeon Forge and Dollywood. Smile

Like Helen Mirren. Interesting though how her, Dolly and Steven Fry (who I loathe) are all without children. Would make their position as patron of MN quite odd.

I'd also nominate Simon Russell Beale and my particular favourites, now dead, Sir Richard and Lady Isabel Burton - what a couple.

Dolly
Audrey Hepburn

CheerfulYank · 25/03/2011 01:27

Oooh I love Dolly!

And Tom Hanks. :) He's got kids...grandkid even. :)

quirrelquarrel · 25/03/2011 07:26

Kate Bush!

Lovely, talented, has integrity, someone a bit distant...adore her! Or, well, the idea of her :D

FellatioNelson · 25/03/2011 10:24

Ok I'm confused now. Is Claire Baldwin a cunt? Or Claire Balding? Claire Balding can't possibly be a cunt. It's not possible. I have no idea whether Claire Baldwin even exists.

ShirleyKnot · 25/03/2011 10:29

Claire Baldwin is an awful cunt

bronze · 25/03/2011 10:37

Sandy Toksvig?

sunshinestate · 25/03/2011 10:40

I vote for Cate Blanchett, Rolf Harris, Damon Albarn and Dolly Parton.

bronze · 25/03/2011 10:42

Oh Rolf. I love Rolf. I love him for himself and also because he is pretty much the same as my Dad who I also love dearly.

I wanted to go and slap those kids who played up to him on the first of the Jamie dream school programs. You don't be mean to Rolf.

DramaInPyjamas · 25/03/2011 10:42

Who suggested Pip Schofield? NO. he's a nobber.

I nominate Liz Smith.

bees474 · 25/03/2011 12:16

Ugh Philip Schofield, he makes me shudder.

Second Kate Bush and Emma Thompson and Tanni Grey Thompson.

PJ Harvey?

LtEveDallas · 25/03/2011 12:24

IME Rolf is horrible in real life, really rude and dismissive (to kids and adults).

Johnny Depp - he's a father, he's gorgeous and he's an all round good guy!

bibbitybobbityhat · 25/03/2011 12:27

I'm really sad that my thread about Rolf has gone from Chat. It was when my dh met him to do a tv interview. There were hundreds of posts from people who had met him in all sorts of circumstances - who all without fail said he was great. My dh said he was extraordinary. It was only a couple of years ago.

I remember your post at the time Reality. Wasn't it something to do with a marching band?

I won't have anyone dissing the mighty Rolf Grin.

E320 · 25/03/2011 12:33

Her majesty the Queen. Head of our nation, does not debase herself with cheap PR stunts and is a model to us all in carrying out her "duty".
How many of us would change places? I wouldn't.

I think Rolf Harris should be knighted. Are we allowed to knight an Aussie? But he is practically British now anyway. In fact mybe he is technically British now. I love him.

Bibbity is your DH someone famous wot's off of the telly?

bibbitybobbityhat · 25/03/2011 13:05

No, dh not famous but he works on the tellybox and often gets to interview famous people. You might catch glimpses of him (rarely) - but the point about Sir Rolf and why I did my thread about him in Chat (it was a guess who my dh is going to meet tomorrow thread) is that dh was more excited about interviewing Rolf than he has been about interviewing anyone ever.

Snapespeare · 25/03/2011 13:08

Tim Minchin - I am utterly besotted with Tim Minchin. :)
