Is it me or does this cap fit into the following categories:

  1. young: gang culture
  2. older: tw*ts
  3. Hip Hop culture
  4. 1980's film producers (thinking Speilberg etc)
  5. 1990's rappers
  6. Bart Simpson

?????

it's just wrong, regardless of which category IMO

Ooopsadaisy · 23/03/2011 13:03

To my mind, anyone over 5 should not do this.

Under 5s are exempt as they may be excited to be going out to play and put the hat on the wrong way by mistake.

Unless you are quite the Cougar, I'm guessing DP is over 5.

Champersonice · 23/03/2011 13:05

I am shamed and in a cringe! He says I am being controlling! WTF?! He is pushing 40 for goodness sake!!

Help - what can I do to stop this ridiculous behaviour???!!

OP posts:
BlueSkySunnyDay · 23/03/2011 13:05

No problem with it on teenagers, kids (in fact prefer it to the right way round - which is a bit dorky)

On an adult its a bit naff to be honest!

Id have to start calling him Poochie - from the simpsons

BlueSkySunnyDay · 23/03/2011 13:06

Im not a big fan of baseball caps on adults tbh.

I'd just let him get on with it, but make it clear you will be pretending you dont know him when he wears it!

Hammy02 · 23/03/2011 13:09

I second what oopsadaisy said. IME, only toddlers and people that wouldn't be out of place on Jeremy Kyle wear baseball caps backwards.

Champersonice · 23/03/2011 13:10

OK am liking the 'Poochie' thing but seriously now...what can I do? It is causing problems, as you can imagine! He thinks he is unique (no way!!) and comfortable wearing it like that. I say it gives the wrong impression and he says he doesn't give in to stereotypes. I just can't bear it and it is making me feel quite sick just thinking about it! The other day, he wore a canary yellow one! Do you think he is having a mid-life crisis??

Please fellow Mumsnetters, I need advice! And perhaps just a few more jokes including names that I can call him!

Argh....

ChippingInMistressSteamMop · 23/03/2011 13:11

Tellhim what Hammy said Grin

Champersonice · 23/03/2011 13:12

Hmmm yeah, I KNOW all that is wrong with it but what I don't know is how to deal with him wearing it and refusing to take it off. OK, he doesn't wear it ALL the time, but even once is too many times for my liking!

OP posts:
MeRightYouWrongMeBigYouSmall · 23/03/2011 13:12

champers - has your DH been married before? he sounds like my ex-husband Grin

Is he trying to hide a bald patch?
Can you burn his hats and say a big raccoon came in and stole them??

Champersonice · 23/03/2011 13:13

Yeah - so far I like:

  • Poochie, and
  • Jeremy Kyle participant

keep em coming for my sanity!!

OP posts:
lesley33 · 23/03/2011 13:13

He is pushing 40!

He is far too old for this. But tbh I would just gently laugh at him about this, rather than making a big deal out of it. e.g. in a gentle voice say before you go out of the door if he has put it on - "okay see you are ready with your mid life crisis hat on!". Or even if he hasn't got it on "where's your mid life crisus hat?". Achieves far more than nagging IME.

MeRightYouWrongMeBigYouSmall · 23/03/2011 13:15

whenever he wears it, go cockeyed and say "Get em Maw" in a really slow dull voice

That's what my DH says when he refers to inbred jeremey kylers :)

BlueSkySunnyDay · 23/03/2011 13:15

Next time he goes out say "see you later Poochie, dont forget your skateboard"

If this is as bad as his midlife crisis gets then you are not doing too badly are you!

Hammy02 · 23/03/2011 13:15

Does he also wear Ali G stylee tracksuits and say 'aksed' instead of 'asked'?
Cominatcha. Booyackasha?

Champersonice · 23/03/2011 13:16

MeRight...no, he's not been married before but if he was, I would send him straight back to her!! He is trying to hide a developing bald patch (I told him wearing hats makes it worse but he won't listen) and he looks good when he wears other hats and I can even, just about(!), put up with a baseball cap on forwards facing - but backwards??? Perlease.

How about this quote:
The baseball cap should be worn in the direction that your life is travelling

Lesley33, unfortunately, yes, he IS pushing 40! He is acting more like 4 though! I did laugh at the "mid-life crisis hat"!

Hammy02, Booyackasha right back at ya!! ;o)

OP posts:
Champersonice · 23/03/2011 13:19

MadamDeathstare can you please give my DH exactly what your name says, please??

Likeabodyshnatcha :p

mayorquimby · 23/03/2011 13:20

"The baseball cap should be worn in the direction that your life is travelling"

wouldn't work over here.
Skangers wear them with the peak straight up, definitely not where their life is headed.

thumbwitch · 23/03/2011 13:22

YANBU - it is madness to wear it backwards. Leyton Hewitt still does it and it looks really stupid on him as well.

Mind you, I think it looks pretty damn stupid wearing a baseball hat any way other than with the eyeshade over the eyes... [old gimmer]

Quenelle · 23/03/2011 13:23

MeRightYouWrong has it! If I was cleverer and wittier I would make up a name for a cap that's used to hide bald patches and tell him everyone calls them that Wink

chuffinheck · 23/03/2011 13:23

Just comment " I see you are still wearing the mid life crisis hat then" whenever he puts it on.

lesley33 · 23/03/2011 13:23

"The baseball cap should be worn in the direction that your life is travelling."

No don't say that to him! If he is suffering a mid life crisis - and it sounds as if he is - this comment will just make him feel really crap. He will probably just retaliate with an angry comment.

Just use light hearted humour. And if he does wear another hat that looks good, go on and on about how good it looks, sexy it makes him look, that kind of thing.

And as someone else said, although its embarassing, if this is the extent of his mid life crisis you are getting off very lightly.
