I leave it between 24-48 hours, If longer than that I usually run it again.

No days. It gets taken out within two hours. Cannot bear the smell of damp washing

Toygirl · 22/03/2011 10:15

I don't leave it at all. My sister leaves it overnight sometimes though but I don't like doing that. Mind you, one of the reasons I don't leave it in the washer is because my son would have it all out on the floor and most likely be swinging it about so I really have to get in there first

babyapplejack · 22/03/2011 10:15

I take it out as soon as the cycle has finished.

nancy75 · 22/03/2011 10:15

if you leave it in for 48 hours it must stink?

MMQC · 22/03/2011 10:16

Why would you leave it in there for days?

Hammy02 · 22/03/2011 10:16

Take out within hours not days. I agree with Chickenshavenoeyebrows. The smell of damp washing is rank.

WishIWasRimaHorton · 22/03/2011 10:16

ooh no - maximum is overnight. otherwise out as soon as it finishes or as soon as i am back after it finishes. 48 hours is toooooooo long. doesn't it smell a bit if it's left shut up in there for that long?

RubberDuck · 22/03/2011 10:17

I leave it and then realise about 10pm when I'm about to put in the next load Blush. I am better about getting it out now that I can hang it outside though - try and do it as soon as I get back from the school run.

NotQuiteCockney · 22/03/2011 10:17

I try to take things out right away.

In hot weather, I think they start to smell after a few hours. In cold (particularly given that room is pretty cold) it would probably be ok after 24.

Fimbo · 22/03/2011 10:17

I occasionally put the machine on and then go out and forget about it when I get home. I always do it again if it has been in for anything more than a few hours.

Bogeyface · 22/03/2011 10:17

If I forget about it, which has been known, and it doesnt come out within 12 hours (ie gets left overnight) then I run a rinse cycle with fabric softener just to freshen it up. It gets stink really quickly. 24 -48 hours and I would probably rewash from scratch.

iwasyoungonce · 22/03/2011 10:17

Within an hour or two, otherwise re-wash it.

It stinks if left for too long.

HisWife · 22/03/2011 10:18

I don't usually intend to. It just finishes and I don't get around to getting it out.

I just wondered what was acceptable really. It doesn't stink unless you go away for a few days and leave it.

I don't iron either, so it doesn't matter to me if it is creased.

MySweetPrince · 22/03/2011 10:18

We never leave it in - why would you leave it for that long then wash it all again? Such a waste of water, electricity, detergent and time.

PrettyCandles · 22/03/2011 10:18

Never! Overnight at the very most, and then very rarely. Once it starts smelling musty, even another wash won't shift the smell properly, and the machine will smell musty, and then any wet washing left in for even an hour will pick up the smell.

DramaInPyjamas · 22/03/2011 10:18

I have a new load in most days, so ours is taken out within hours of the cycle finishing.

Bunbaker · 22/03/2011 10:18

Never. Why do you leave it? If I know I can't take the washing out straight away I leave the laundry until another time. Wet washing has a nasty lingering smell.

GooseyLoosey · 22/03/2011 10:18

Would never leave it unless I forgot or was out!

TobyLerone · 22/03/2011 10:19

Ugh, never any longer than a few minutes. I do not do washing unless I will be there to take it out of the machine. If I've had to go out and the machine has finished, if it's been any longer than a couple of hours I will re-do it.

Never more than overnight at most even then I sometimes re wash if it smells. Never ever for 24-48 hours though.

mamatomany · 22/03/2011 10:24

does anyone else re wash if the clothes get caught in the rain ? Friends think i'm mad but i cannot bear the thought so it gets a quick wash at least.

Chil1234 · 22/03/2011 10:24

YABU... and lazy with it. Leaving wet washing in a machine for two days? Yuk!!

Bunbaker · 22/03/2011 10:24

"if it's been any longer than a couple of hours I will re-do it."

Surely that is a bit OTT, not to mention a massive watse of resources.

Aims80 · 22/03/2011 10:25

A few hours, so if I've put it on in the morning, when I come back in the evening and take it out. Maybe 12 hours max.
