I leave it between 24-48 hours, If longer than that I usually run it again.

Grin Jemima. Are you me?!

Adair · 22/03/2011 14:11

though we def wear clothes more than once usually, especially the children -though me less so at the moment (sicky newborn, leaky etc)

alemci · 22/03/2011 14:12

i left it today as it hadn't finished when i needed to go to work. the cycle has a timer and it seems to go on longer than the time it first showed.

my DH had hung it out at lunchtime but this is unusual for me and normally i would wait for the machine to finish.

damp laundry left too long in a machine is not good IMO.

BertieBotts · 22/03/2011 14:13

"...obviously has clean pants, socks, t-shirt and jumper/hoodie every day."

Ah see I would only wear pants or socks once. T shirts get worn until they get dirty or I can smell the deodorant on them - usually 2-3 times. Jumpers and trousers get worn until they look or smell dirty. Why would you need a clean hoodie every day? (Unless you work somewhere dirty)

DS wears socks once and anything else until it looks grubby or he spills food on it which is usually once or twice TBH.

I'm not saying how often I remember to wash bedding Blush

MollieO · 22/03/2011 14:14

Never. What luxury to go two days without having to do a washing load!

BertieBotts · 22/03/2011 14:15

Anyway I had better go and hang up the washing which finished about this time yesterday but has been sat in the basket for about 3 hours waiting to be hung up Wink

FabbyChic · 22/03/2011 14:16

Its gross to leave it 24/48 hours, it starts to smell of damp.

The longest I have left washing is a few hours.

JemimaMop · 22/03/2011 14:17

I would like to swap my children for yours. DS2 is 6 and can get an outfit dirty before 9am Hmm

I do wash bedding every week though, partly because thats what my mum did and partly because DS2 and I are asthmatic.

JemimaMop · 22/03/2011 14:18

I have just brought in my 5 loads dry from the line

TobyLerone · 22/03/2011 14:20

at not wearing a clean top every day. I can't imagine doing that. I'm sure people do, and I never notice, but I couldn't.

notrightnow · 22/03/2011 14:25

Toby & Jemina .... I feel just a tiny bit grubby now ... :)

BertieBotts · 22/03/2011 14:25

DS probably isn't dressed by 9am Blush

TobyLerone · 22/03/2011 14:27

If only you could see the rest of my house, notrightnow! Hmm

JemimaMop · 22/03/2011 14:30

My house is actually quite clean for once as it is my day off and so I've got no excuse not to do it

However our bathroom light hasn't been working for 3 weeks and the electrician fixed it yesterday. You don't want to know how much dirt had accumulated in the dark corners of the shower!

DarkSkies · 22/03/2011 14:30

Shock 5 loads on the line??? How big is your garden? Hampstead Heath?

I can only fit 1 load on line, 1 load on airer, so obviously frequency of washing is affected by this!

valiumredhead · 22/03/2011 14:33

How small is your washing line darkskies - I have one of the washing lines that fit to a wall and even that takes at least 3 loads Grin

JemimaMop · 22/03/2011 14:36

I have a normal 4 sided rotary washing line. Can fit loads of washing on it, at least one load to each side.

stealthsquiggle · 22/03/2011 14:37
Confused

I have large garden, long(ish) washing line (straight, reely one - I can't stand rotary ones) and I can only get 1 load on it - which is fine in the summer when it dries in the time it takes for the washing machine to run, but otherwise somewhat of a PITA.

FlaminGreatGallah · 22/03/2011 14:40

Gah, this thread has reminded me of ExH leaving four items of baby clothes in the machine wet for ages. Not sure how long but they were very wet and concealed at the bottom of the machine. DD's best and most expensive things of course.

Since I was working full-time, dropping the baby off and picking her up, doing any shopping and he was sleeping until noon and spending the rest of the day on the Play-station getting stoned I didn't notice them until they had grown black / green mould where she had dribbled milk Angry

Soon after this incident I returned home to find him exhausted having done four "loads" of washing: The white baby clothes, the green, the pink and the yellow. Not even half a load in total the twat.

DarkSkies · 22/03/2011 14:43

Ah- tiny garden, couldn't really fit a rotary in leaving any child play space. Like stealth- it's a reel-type straight line, probably 8m long.

JemimaMop · 22/03/2011 14:43

I'm not the biggest fan of rotary ones, however having the same length of straight washing line accross the garden would really get in the way, and probably be hit frequently by muddy footballs. It is tucked down the bottom of the garden so I don't have to look at it, and it does the job it is meant to do. I don't like having washing hanging all over the house if I can help it and don't like tumbling things when the sun is shining, so I need a line with plenty of room.

valiumredhead · 22/03/2011 14:47

I don't like them either jemimamop so this is my compramise!

bonkers20 · 22/03/2011 14:54

I never leave wet washing in the machine. Yuk!
Needless to say, I am often up at the crack of dawn putting a load of washing on, so it can be hung out before I go to work.

I will shove dirty wet things in there ready for washing and leave for maybe a day or two, but then they get washed.

Bunbaker · 22/03/2011 15:17

"I think the biggest shock for me was the fact that the OP doesn't need to do another load within that 48hrs! I do at least 2-3 loads a day."

Why so many? Do you have lots of children? There are three of us and I do 3 - 4 loads a week. I change towels and bedding once a week and underwear daily.

bellavita · 22/03/2011 15:24

I never ever leave wet washing in the machine, I never leave it out on the line for days either.
