Maths homework worksheet came home with DS on "time" and at the bottom was a Learning Top Tip - It says... "when drawing the hands on an analogue clock, make sure the hand that shows the hour is longer than the hand that shows the minutes. Hours are longer than minutes!"

Oh dear.

cairnterrier · 20/03/2011 18:21

Suboptimal at the very least....... Grin

LaurieFairyCake · 20/03/2011 18:21

That's the wrong way round, hour hand should be shorter surely?

Skinit · 20/03/2011 18:22

Oh my! I think you need to write to her!

GKlimt · 20/03/2011 18:22

good theory though. shame it's wrong.

FreudianSlippery · 20/03/2011 18:24

Hahahahaha!

But also, OMG!!!

Bogeyface · 20/03/2011 18:25

Yes, I think a quiet word is in order if only to ascertain whether this is a new teaching method no one else has heard of!

desperatelyseekingsnoozes · 20/03/2011 18:25

Having read that wouldn't it be better that way around?

activate · 20/03/2011 18:26

quiet word? how are you going to manage a quiet word about that?

LOL

that's terrible Muriel

andybat · 20/03/2011 18:27

But the theory is so good! That's what made me have to read it several times as I was beginning to doubt myself. It was on an actual worksheet which had been photocopied from a book, you start to think they must be right and maybe they changed it and everyone forgot to tell me!!

As DH said - how will you make an appointment you can both keep?

activate · 20/03/2011 18:51

rofl on appointment - they'll both have to use a digital clock I assume Grin

CadleCrap · 20/03/2011 18:54

By that reasoning it is 6 minutes to 11. Waaay past my bedtime

Night

Thats ridiculous! It's no wonder children aren't learning anything anymore. I took my DPs cousin age 6 to school once and one of the other kids in class called a tiger a lion, and I said "no, thats a tiger!" and the TEACHER said "Oh it doesn't matter, they're all the same!!" I was just Shock

Ineedalife · 20/03/2011 18:59

LOL at such a silly mistake.

We had one last week that said " 1 quarter of children in a school wear a jumper and half do not wear a jumper, what fraction wears a jumper"???Hmm

My homework hating 8 year old thought it was hilarious.Grin

ChippingInMistressSteamMop · 20/03/2011 19:05

For the love of god.

INAL - I can see how your one happened, it's easy to accidentally write jumper instead of cardigan when you are rushing - but to write a whole explanation that is wrong? FFS.

Goblinchild · 20/03/2011 19:05

It was photocopied out of a book?
So the error is the publishers, and poor editors.
The teacher was careless in not checking a printed resource for mistakes and taking it on trust.
Let's aim that blame accurately chaps.

Goblinchild · 20/03/2011 19:06

Although there is no excuse for the tiger/lion.

Ineedalife · 20/03/2011 19:09

Ours wasn't goblin, ours was hand made, including some well dodgy drawings.

Although to be fair ours could have been a reading test in disguiseGrin.

edam · 20/03/2011 19:09

INAL Grin what on earth did the teacher think the missing quarter were doing?

edam · 20/03/2011 19:10

(Lion/tiger thing would really piss me off as well. I have been known to correct people who call apes monkeys...)
