I don't think The King's Speech is that great a film; I think the directing was often unimaginative, cliched and banal and the script obvious. And Helena Bonham Carter wasn't that good.

I use Nestle products because boycotting them is just too much work

What area of linguistics did you focus on? Don't mean to pry, it's just so seldom that I meet another linguistics nut

I have two linguistic loons in my family, like father like daughter. Scrabble is a blood sport in this household.

I would like to see Pedants' Corner renamed as Linguists' Lounge.

My linguists lounge rather too often for my liking. Esoteric conversation and witty quips don't get the washing up done.

My masters was in historical linguistics. I was never a grammar nut although I find that and phonetics interesting. Sociolinguistics was my second favourite area. I think historical sociolinguistics would be my idea of heaven

I am a total onomastics nut too, I took that to honours and now persue it as a hobby.

I like my literature whole and magnificently yummy, not sliced and diced into little phonetic packages with their roots all exposed and dissected.

I was about to apologise for derailing the thread but then I realised admitting to a love of the Great Vowel Shift and names is probably about as unpopular opinion as you're likely to hear

and I think people who home educate are selfish and denying their kids the normalcy of a school education, and said kids are usually weird.

also, people who deliberately choose to only have one child are selfish.

I don't mind that someone voices their agreeing, I mind the fact that I am nosey about what they are agreeing about and try to find the post, which breaks the flow of the thread.

My most unpopular MN opinion is that we should have both an edit and quote function. I have already received the bashing of a lifetime for suggesting those, so feel I have nothing to lose in saying that
