I don't think The King's Speech is that great a film; I think the directing was often unimaginative, cliched and banal and the script obvious. And Helena Bonham Carter wasn't that good.

I also think it was an easier/better time when women could stay at home to look after the family whilst the men earned the money, which should also mean they could earn enough to support their families so the woman doesn't have to go to work.
