I meet with a group of fellow cycling enthusiasts in my local coffee shop, that happens to be situated inside a hotel. I've been told that we are no longer welcome and should never darken their door again.

Depends. If you'd moved the tables together & were taking up lots of space with your unicycles, YABU. If not then it's a clear case of anti-unicycle prejudice.
