Extraneous "it" there. I can't even keep my prose tidy Shock.

risingstar · 16/03/2011 14:27

i have always wanted to really know what anally retentive/ocd clean people really think of the rest of us.

i kind of divide people i know, entirely based on their houses into people i feel comfortable inviting to our slum and people that i would cringe to have here.

several friends have scarily tidy and clean homes. my house has clean kitchen work surfaces/fridge and clean toilets. as for the rest of it- i have teenagers and toddlers and it is like shovelling snow in a blizzard.

shockers · 16/03/2011 14:41

I love the idea of being a smeary window slut, it sounds so gorgeously dirty...

(filthyGrin)

kreecherlivesupstairs · 16/03/2011 14:41

Our house is pretty clean but very messy. DD brings things down and doesn't take them back to her bedroom.
DH leaves things laying around and I am not the tidiest person on this earth.
I tend to call dds stuff her drift. It just drifts around and finds a home on one of the sofas.

Happylander · 16/03/2011 14:45

I'm generally clean but messy. My mum though does moan at my dirty windows....dogs nose and DS smears on patio doors and the others windows being filthy. I just look at her and shrug my shoulders and say I don't care about the windows. Next time my mum looks after my DS she'll have cleaned the windows..I try to be a dirty window slut but she scuppers it! Grin
PS I live in a bungalow...really no excuse for not doing them as I can actually reach them all from outside.

carriedababi · 16/03/2011 15:30

happylander, what does your mum say, when you say you don't care?

Clean or tidy-can´t seem to manage bothBlush

LaWeasel · 16/03/2011 15:46

I'm like you lot too.

I keep meaning to start a thread about people who say there house is messy but not dirty.

I don't understand?? I have to shift the mess and tidy before I can get to the dirt! House is way more likely to be tidy but need a vacuum clean because I was distracted before I could do that bit!

CheerfulYank · 16/03/2011 16:01

I try, I really do, but somehow my house ends up filthy! I think it's clean and then I look around and I see dirty baseboards, etc. Sigh...don't even get my started on the windows!

Firawla · 16/03/2011 16:33

my house is like that sometimes too. but if it was something like a pre arranged invited round thing @ someone's house and it was like that i would possibly judge a bit, if just dropping in or spur of the moment thing then not at all.

HeadfirstForHalos · 16/03/2011 16:38

This is my house too! The only person who judges me is my mil, but then I did steal marry her pfb, and he can't possibly live like that! He really doesn't see the mess care.

FabbyChic · 16/03/2011 16:41

I would judge someone for a dirty house, because cleaning is second nature and to not clear up after yourself or your children is just lazyness.

was V paranoid for a sec then, am in the middle of baking a cake and just sat down to lick the bowl Grin
house is a shit tip less than perfect...

HeadfirstForHalos · 16/03/2011 16:54

It isn't always laziness though, some people just have different priorities. I would sooner be out walking the dog, or in the park/woods with my youngest, or playing with him than cleaning my patio doors. I do the essentials, but any more than that I find unnecessary at this point in time with 4 los aged 8 and under!

reelingintheyears · 16/03/2011 16:56

I can't be arsed to namechange BUT...
DH and i recently visited some old friends we haven't seen for ages.

The house was a dump.
Kitchen was greasy and dirty.
Carpets hadn't seen a hoover for yonks.
Kitchen floor needed sweeping and washing.
DCs were grubby and no one wiped their hands or faces (2 and 4 year olds)after dinner so off they ran from the table spreading food everywhere.

DP and i didn't say anything even to each other until the next day out of Shock.

I am no ideal homes housewife but this was the worst.

Rabat · 16/03/2011 16:58

Yes I do judge.

I am disgusted at myself Blush.

Rabat · 16/03/2011 16:59

I mean MY home is like that and I judge MYSELF! I am relieved when I see it at other's houses...unless their house is REALLY bad.

reelingintheyears · 16/03/2011 16:59

Also the cat was constantly on the kitchen worktops eating from plates and pans....yuck.

DCs drink cup left upside down on the sofas dripping away and Mum put a blanket over the wet patch and left it there for someone else to sit on.

I'm feeling a little bit judgy.

babybythesea · 16/03/2011 17:06

I'd be pleased if my patio doors just had smears on - at the moment they've got the remnants of a bright green plasticine on, some of it jammed into the edges where it'a difficult to get at to extract.
My conservatory (now there's posh - or at least it would be if it hadn't been put in as a DIY job by the previous occupant with a limited grasp of construction) is a sea of mud, owing to my daughters desire to help with the gardening, mostly involving pulling up the stuff I have just planted (and most of which is in pots inside as we had frost a day or so ago). I am watching my pot of sweet peas in the hope that the tomato seeds she helpfully added will be recognised once they germinate and moved to a new container, but I'm not optimistic. My kitchen floor is clean, but that's because we were painting yesterday, and then we went to wash her hands. I stayed in the bathroom to wipe the paint smears off the basin, and got back to the kitchen to find her busily and in a very focussed way painting spots, big ones, in primary colours, on the kitchen floor.
I try not to call it messy, but homely....

NettoSuperstar · 16/03/2011 17:08

My house is filthy not as clean as it could be, but the way I see it is, if you don't like it, leave.

It's my home, and I'll have it however I damn well please.

reelingintheyears · 16/03/2011 17:10

My house is also not as clean as it could/should be but we were invited for dinner and could hardly walk out.

We certainly weren't rude enough to let it show and actually had a good night but it was filthy.

ambarth · 16/03/2011 17:10

A woman with small children, no cleaner and a perfect house I would judge. Can't be spending much time with the kids.

reelingintheyears · 16/03/2011 17:11

They have an au pair.

NettoSuperstar · 16/03/2011 17:12

Actually, it's not that bad really. It does get hoovered most days, though the kitchen floor can be a tad sticky.

I just don't like cleaning, even though I do it for a living.
I do love cooking and ironing though if that helps?Grin
