DH has just gone on an emergency trip to the supermarket and I had written a list. Before he left we had a conversation that went something like this:

Me "Have you got your phone on you?"
DH "No, the battery's dead"
Me "Ok take mine"
DH "I don't need a phone"
Me "But what if you need to ask me something while in the shop?"
DH "I won't, I'll just buy what I think is right"
Cue Hmm face from me

Dh leaves and as I hear the car leave the drive I see the shopping list where dh was just sitting. Obviously he has no phone so is now going to wander aimlessly round the shop buying what he likes.

He's going to come back with shopping bags full of potato cakes, pot noodles, tinned tomatos and garlic paste.

So Would IBU to send him back out again if he forgets my Egg Custards?

YWNBU.

Marking my place to see if he defies expectations and remembers!

Gemsy83 · 12/03/2011 20:57

Hehehehe sounds very familiar- its almost purposely done I think

littleducks · 12/03/2011 20:57

Do you reckon it was deliberate?

If dh goes shopping without instructions he just seems to buy half the bakery section and some milk.

So to last a week, you can have toast/cake/crumpets/croissants for three days and then everything has gone stale/mouldy.

MadMommaMemoo · 12/03/2011 20:58

I bet he is going to the pub really and will just call in the corner shop on his way back :o

VinegarTits · 12/03/2011 21:06

YABU he is an adult, he doesnt need instructions, lists, phones.. is a trip to the shops not brain surgery [deadpan]

ShinyMoonInAPurpleSky · 12/03/2011 21:08

But I don't like pot noodles... Sad

Ah but I've just remembered...last time he took an impromtu trip to the shops he returned with sour cream and onion Pringles [hopeful face] things may be looking up.

Now I can't decide if pringles would be a suitable substitute for egg custards?

Grin Maryz

I was just about to say that he would be being VVU if he didn't bring back both pringles and egg custards, and you would be BU if you didn't send him back for both/either if he forgot!

SquishyBumsMum · 12/03/2011 21:28

Sounds like mine, he'll spend a fortune on snacks and treats but when asked "What's for dinner" he just stares blankly and starts to mutter haha.

moodymama · 12/03/2011 21:33

YWNBU. Also waiting to see what he comes back with!

Alibabaandthe40nappies · 12/03/2011 21:45

YANBU

DH often comes back with random things despite a list. Today he bought 250 nappies because they were on special offer!

I showed him this thread and he says YABU because you should have made sure he had the list with him Grin I looked at him like this Hmm

bethylou · 12/03/2011 21:50

Ali my husband also came back with 200 nappies today - maybe a generalised offer?! At least we've got them into a supermarket without us! Hope the egg custards are remembered. DH did also come home with 8 Cadbury twirls for me!!

lazylula · 12/03/2011 21:52

Alibaba, my husband does things like that too. Before Christmas Morrisons were doing Pringles and Pepsi on buy 1 get 2 free. I picked up 6 bottles when shopping, then another 3 a few days later. On the Friday I asked dh to pop in and pick me up 6 more, visitors at Christmas who drink spirits with coke and 6 tubes of Pringles. He came back with 36 bottles of Pepsi and 18 tubes of pringles! It is a family thing though, his father and brother are the same!

ShinyMoonInAPurpleSky · 12/03/2011 21:54

Ok he's back and he's also been to the chippy (not complaining).

He remembered the egg custards, they had no pringles left (they never do Angry) but he got me two of those pink glittery cupcakes for a pound and two boxes of Honey loops which were also a pound :o and a bottle of lilt so he got enough right for me not to be upset with him!

However he also randomly has two cooked chickens, a pork joint and possibly a whole cow in various forms, about 18 tins of tomatos and two different types of garlic paste (I don't even know what he wants it for).

What's he planning for dinner tomorrow?!

Alibabaandthe40nappies · 12/03/2011 21:59

Brilliant! Grin

How did you know he would get garlic paste? Seems a very strange item to purchase in bulk! Confused

Sounds like a good start for tonight Grin / Wink / Hmm

ShinyMoonInAPurpleSky · 12/03/2011 22:04

I know about the garlic paste because he's been going on about it all week! And the tomatoes because he's decided pureeing them himself tastes nicer than buying the tubes of puree.

OP posts:
thumbwitch · 12/03/2011 22:09

My DH is a little different than this - he will only buy what is needed - and by that I mean what he has noticed is needed, so things like his bread (we have different loaves, I am wheat-free), milk, coffee, chocolate - but forget to check for things like veg, fruit other than bananas, juice, eggs, butter, cheese and other basics. So he'll come back with about 5 things, when if he'd checked/asked/had his phone on him, he could have got the rest while he was there too.

To be fair, he usually does check first and he usually does have his phone on him so it's not really an issue here.

ShinyMoon - glad yor DH got it right enough! His bulk buying of tinned tomatoes is weird though... Confused

Magna · 12/03/2011 22:11
Grin

So homemade pizza and garlic bread tomorrow night then - by DH of course Smile
