I have seen a few people on here post that they do painy by numbers to relax them. Being in fucking awful pain Having a lot of time to fill I thought I'd buy one because I love painting but am no good.

A beautiful scene has arrived through the post and I've realised I'm screwed. It's really advanced. It's brought back memories of doing them as a child when they all looked like shit. There's a small person in it. On the cover he looks human. The numbers direct you just to fill him in in one colour. I don't have the skill to make him look any more than a blob.

I'm going to spend hours on it, aren't I and then have to throw it in the bin because it's rubbish?

Paint by numbers. I have pain on the brain today.

Grin at painting by numbers.

If I were in your shoes I'd rip the picture up into a thousand pieces and chuck in bin, then get a glass of wine (it's nearly wine o'clock) feet up, and watch some crap on the telly while MNing.

Sorted.

AmazingBouncingFerret · 09/03/2011 17:34

Ahhh just do it and say it's impressionism.

Glitterknickaz · 09/03/2011 17:34

Knit instead.

AgentZigzag · 09/03/2011 17:39

Just out of interest OP, where oh where did people admitting to doing painting by numbers come up on MN?

DarrellRivers · 09/03/2011 17:42

Paining by numbers more accurate then Grin

SeeJaneKick · 09/03/2011 17:44

Just use a fine brush and put less on than you think you need....and remember...light can be covered with dark bu not the other way round.

DramaInPyjamas · 09/03/2011 17:45

I've NEVER seen anyone admit to painting by numbers on MN. I must hang out in all the wrong threads

LittleNicci · 09/03/2011 17:49

Why don't you do a cross stitch? You can't go wrong with them.

ohboob · 09/03/2011 17:57

Ahh, several well known MNetters definitely do it. I will spare them the shame of outing them. Wink

Ripping it up and putting it in the bin sounds good but I recently painted an item of furniture and found it very relaxing. Maybe it's the act of painting that is good and not getting it right so I shouldn't follow the numbers but just splosh paint around. And then as ABF says, call it impressionism.

And FFS I already do cross stitch and knit. I want to paint, damn you. (sorry, am looking for a bun fight for a bit today) I want to work with something gloopy. And don't tell me to go and eat a vagina cupcake. Not that kind of gloopy.

OP posts:
ohboob · 09/03/2011 17:59

Looking for a bunfight for a bit? That doesn't make sense. Fuck it.

OP posts:
AgentZigzag · 09/03/2011 18:02

Arf at hoping a bunfight will develop out of a gentle painting for numbers picture Grin

What about making some jewelry? Make cash at the same time.

ohboob · 09/03/2011 18:03

Is jewellery gloopy? NO I DON'T THINK SO. Fuck off with your jewellery.

Grin

painting furniture has a purpose tho, painting by numbers is pointless!

AgentZigzag · 09/03/2011 18:05

Bloody hell, I don't make jewelry and I resent the implication that I'm the type of person who does FFS.

ohboob · 09/03/2011 18:05

I've run out of furniture to paint. Sad It's enough to make me start Wine

LOLOL at Agentzig 'rip it into a thousand pieces'

WHY in all the name that is holy would you want to do paint by numbers? You may as well book yourself into the Occupational Health room at the local Geriatric ward and commence a 500 piece jisgaw puzzle of Woburn Abbey.

GetOrfMoiLand · 09/03/2011 18:11

I remember doing a paint by numbers as a child, got so pissed off with the sheer pointlessness of it (I remember it well, it was a picture of a shire horse and a cottage) and I ended up getting the paints wrong, so it would have ended up with the horse's mane being pink, instead of the cottage flowers. At that point my 8 year old self thought 'oh go FUCK yourself' (or whatever the 8 year old equivalent of that would be) and thew it away.

If you want to paint, best off getting a pack of oil paints, some thinner, and a few cheap canvases and just splosh some paint on. It is really enjoyable, I have no artistic bone in my body, but me and DD regularly do this.

ohboob · 09/03/2011 18:11

But some very cool MNers do paint by numbers. I just wanted to be cool too. Sad

And I'm so bored. And it's painting.

And I don't know why else. The gloopiness played a big part in it. Now I'm stuck with it.

OP posts:
ginmakesitallok · 09/03/2011 18:12

We got DD a Sequinart thing before Christmas to keep her occupied - most addictive thing I've ever had in the house. I'm still tempted to buy myself one - but DP would only put the sequins in the wrong place

ohboob · 09/03/2011 18:17

This is a steam mop vs a paint by numbers thing isn't it? The people who got a steam mop on the advice of fellow MNers are just being rude about those of us who are following a different crowd and getting paint by numbers on the advice of other MNers.

I wish I'd got a steam mop.

Nest of vipers.

AgentZigzag · 09/03/2011 18:19

I think you're going to have to name names OP, cos I think you're trolling and trying to destroy the MN nest of vipers reputation.

Look I'm stressed enough that I just a bar of quite a lot of chocolate. I don't need to be told I'm trolling too. Do you really want to be responsible for eating a second bar?

And where the hell is Pixie on a leaf?

(oops, didn't mean to write that bit)
