Do people actually buy them? Is anyone that lazy or useless in the kitchen that they can't make proper pancakes?

I buy them, small ones for DD's luchbox, I also make homemade ones.

Mind you there are never any home made ones left for lunchboxes!

Katey1010 · 07/03/2011 16:11

I once saw a pancake mix that said, "just add eggs, milk and butter". So, it's flour then?

usualsuspect · 07/03/2011 16:12

Nowt wrong with being lazy

sevendwarves · 07/03/2011 16:12

Katey :o

ZZZenAgain · 07/03/2011 16:13

:) Katey, just add all the ingredients

What do these bought pancakes taste like then, any different?

ShatnersBassoon · 07/03/2011 16:13

Of course people buy them. Of course some people are that lazy and useless in the kitchen.

YABU to assume everyone who buys them is lazy and/or a useless cook though. People buy ready-made food items for all sorts of reasons.

Fennel · 07/03/2011 16:13

I wondered if they'd be good for pancake races, more rubbery? (I have to arrange a pancake flipping race so I'm considering this)

unfitmother · 07/03/2011 16:13

YABU and incredibly judgemental!
"lazy & useless" Angry
I guess that'll be me then as I got some for DH to give DD for breakfast tomorrow as she's going away with school for the week.
I'm not around in the morning and the last thing he'll have time for is to be making pancakes from scrach, he's that lazy and useless.

I assumed they'd be rubbery too fennel. No idea though. I get fed up with mine sticking to pans. Need new pans

NettoSuperstar · 07/03/2011 16:15

Every yearGrin

Fernie3 · 07/03/2011 16:15

I buy the ones you add stuff too because I have never successfully made a pancake. I. Remember last year being told that it was ridiculous that I cant make them but i can make lots of other types of foods so i wont be losing sleep over my pancake based failures :)

rinabean · 07/03/2011 16:15

I buy them. I can't be bothered to make my own pancakes. I don't like how you have to cook them one by one, unlike bread, burgers, cakes, biscuits and everything else I make from scratch.

TheVisitor · 07/03/2011 16:16

ZZZen, they've got excellent non stick frying pans in Aldi for £3.99 atm.

ZZZenAgain · 07/03/2011 16:17

you can have a couple of pans on the go at the same ttime though

AboardtheAxiom · 07/03/2011 16:17

I tried to make some pancakes last week and failed miserably bcause my pan is knackered. I could have bought a new pan but instead I bought a pack of ready made pancakes. Blush

So to summarise, I can cook, I'm just lazy. (And too skint to fork out for a new decent frying pan instead of spending 75p). Blush

usualsuspect · 07/03/2011 16:17

We shall all bow down to the ops superior pancake making skills ..fwiw I do make my own on pancake day ..but often buy the stuffed with chocolateready made ones from asda

MrsPresley · 07/03/2011 16:17

I find the shop bought ones are quite "spongy", personally I dont like them but DD does.

I like hot pancakes with the butter running off them Blush lovely on a Saturday or Sunday afternoon and so quick and easy to make, and even quicker and easier to eat Grin

sevendwarves · 07/03/2011 16:18

But do they taste as rubbery as they look, the packs also feel too heavy like they're extra dense. Do they go as soggy as I imagine when you microwave them?

ShowOfHands · 07/03/2011 16:18

Well my arthritic 85yr old grandmother is neither lazy nor useless but she is desperate to live in her own home for as long as possible.

Things like ready grated cheese and ready made pancakes mean she can hang on to her independence.

ZZZenAgain · 07/03/2011 16:18

have they? good tip. I must get some new ones, everything sticks in the middle. Nightmare to try and make pancakes. will investigate, thanks

what are you all eating with your pancakes (made from scratch or bought)?

VivaLeBeaver · 07/03/2011 16:19

I bought them once when we were in the camper van and wanted something really easy to cook that wouldn't make much washing up. They were awful and went in the bin.

Bonkerz · 07/03/2011 16:19

aunt bessie is my friend! frozen pancakes out of freezer, one minute in microwave and BAM gorgeous perfect pancake..........
LAZY: YES
USELESS: no i do my own rice pudding and cakes and make meals from scratch......life is just too short to mess around making pancakes!

Laquitar · 07/03/2011 16:20

I can not make pancakes Blush.

I've tried. Twice. But they were horible.

ZZZenAgain · 07/03/2011 16:21

did you leavethe batter for half an hour before frying?

Supposed to make a difference: I'm going to head off and get some pans but I feel like death today - horrible cold, am not tempted to get out...
