it is to do with it la weasel in a sense because they are open all hours (like the pub!) and let kids hang about

Tizwoz · 04/03/2011 21:06

Ridiculous argument, Southeastastra. They'll also probably try a cigarette, drinking and maybe even drugs! They are patently, obviously and clearly bad for you, but plenty of people still indulge in them. However, the point is, if you have done your job as a parent well, they might well try them out of curiousity but they won't make any of it a habit.

Banning all mention of the word "McDonalds" won't stop people eating there. Far from it. If anything, it'll make it more tempting.

southeastastra · 04/03/2011 21:08

salt makes people fat and gives them heart disease - at least cigarettes have warnings

BuzzLiteBeer · 04/03/2011 21:09

I never hung around in McD's as a teenager, its full of kids and drug addicts. What kind of teenager hangs around in McD's?

southeastastra · 04/03/2011 21:11

'it's full of kids' Grin er yes that's what i said

Tizwoz · 04/03/2011 21:14

If you want to go down that route though, almost everything we do and eat is bad for you. As I said, it is up to you and me as parents to teach our children how to be safe.

Fast food is no exception.

southeastastra · 04/03/2011 21:15

eating a carrot surely isn't that bad for you

Tizwoz · 04/03/2011 21:16

That's why I said "almost".

Way to go herbieta that's why I started this thread on AIBU for that kinda incisive insight.

Have lost the will to live. Thank god 'tis Friday evening.

So MN are you gonna take the McDollar or not? Let us know quicksharp when you've made a decision.

OP posts:
Panzee · 04/03/2011 23:16

McYes please!

BuzzLiteBeer · 05/03/2011 00:14

actually I kind of really hope they do it now, if only to rid us of the sanctimonious hand-wringers who can't actually explain what the problem is.

This is a business, ladies, not an NCT meeting.

If all was fine and dandy(ethics and environment aside) I might not give a shit either but the fact remains a fifth of children starting primary school are overweight, obesity levels are rocketing and actually a lot of mums do think it's ok to let their kids eat junk far to much.

If they didn't there wouldn't be a problem in this country, kids don't feed themselves we as parents do and many parents are serving up far too much crap. Many parents*aren't going by the all things in moderation" stance, far from it,

Advertising works it's why big corporations use it,the fact is having Mcdonalds ads on here will sell more so that means more kids eating the shite. Many mums will think serving up junk food more regularly is more acceptable when they see the golden arches shining out of mn. Most won't have seen this thread or any other literature regarding Mcdonalds.

None of us can winge about the quality of school dinners, obesity levels, sweets in school, the cost and the effects of obesity on young kids whose lives are going to be blighted by it forever if we just shrug our shoulders and smirk "I don't give a shit,my kids are ok advertise what you like".

It's double standards and it's wrong,mn will never in the future be able to take any moral stance on healthy eating for kids,no campaigns, media discussions nothing because any interviewer will just say "well you clearly don't give a shit either".

BuzzLiteBeer · 05/03/2011 09:51

Thats just bollocks, and unbelievably blinkered, not to mention downright silly.

glasnost · 05/03/2011 10:04

Sounds like you describing yourself Buzz. I really don't get why you're so vehement in your defence of an all powerful multinational.

And if you seriously don't think any valid arguments to explain exactly what the problem is have been expressed here then you're the blinkered one.

OP posts:
BuzzLiteBeer · 05/03/2011 10:13

I'm not in defence on anyone except the people on MN, who you seem to assume are imbeciles.
Look around you, does this look like an audience that will think "hey, McD on MN, I must go twice weekly as it is obviously a wonderful food".

I don't care what ads are on here, I don't see them. I do care when people like stand on your soapbox and whine about MN and how thick we all are. If you don't like it, theres an easy way out.
