Glasnot, we are all free thinking individuals capable of making our own decisions. Do you think we are all going to start feeding out kids McD's every night just because they advertise on here? And it's. Burgers and chips they sell not crack cocaine

Rycie · 04/03/2011 17:06

Stupid phone...

If you don't have a problem with McD's advertising here, it's only because you don't have enough background on the company.

GypsyMoth · 04/03/2011 17:07

lol!!

perspective??

all this boycotting...does it make the problem 'go away' at all??? does it?

GypsyMoth · 04/03/2011 17:08

"McD's and their ilk are slowly killing your very soul Tiff."

examples of their 'ilk'???

glasnost · 04/03/2011 17:08

When you people start realising you're manipulated all the time by advertisng and begin to get a bit of critical thought on the go then we could have a debate but til then this thread ain't going anywhere.

McD's is evil. On an eco level, an employment practices level, an ethical level, a dietary level. Crack cocaine is less dangerous.

Mogador, seriously, those who object are not doing on the basis of the food, the issue is about the way they run their business. Am on phone but glasnost, please can you explain about the rainforest etc?

DramaInPyjamas · 04/03/2011 17:11

"Personally I'm gonna walk (or just username change!)"

What's the point of THAT? If you're going to boycott something, at least do it properly.

SeeJaneKick · 04/03/2011 17:13

here is why LaWeasel

The Amazon rainforest suffers as a dircect result of their actions...

upahill · 04/03/2011 17:13

I.d rather my kids had the odd McDonald than a Greggs steak bake! Now that is bad!

usualsuspect · 04/03/2011 17:15

yeah you name change that'll show em

Tizwoz · 04/03/2011 17:16

You are totally right. I would rather MN closed down then dare take advetising money from...(hushed whisper) McDonalds!

I mean, I for one, am unable to look at a succulent, nutritious but reasonably priced BigMac without being so overcome with the need to eat that I sink my teeth into the arm of whoever happenes to be standing nearest to me.

SeeJaneKick · 04/03/2011 17:16

I'd rather mine had fresh meat and fish upahill...and that ALL families had access to good food.

SeeJaneKick · 04/03/2011 17:17

It's about more than the ads making people fancy a big mac Tizwoz...some people aren't happy with the ethics of the company.

usualsuspect · 04/03/2011 17:17

Mcdonalds is the best hangover cure ever

glasnost · 04/03/2011 17:17

Can't be arsed but suffice to say the industrial farming needed to meet their beef requirements is damaging the environment, the vast quantities of water needed to process the beef, the packaging requires 700 acres ranfores to bet devastated every yeay just for them! www.rajuabju.com/literature/anti-mcdonalds.ht

I'd just like to add that this is all ALLEGEDLY true.

PrincessScrumpy · 04/03/2011 17:20

The only time I've eaten macdonalds in my adult life is when pg - once with dd (it was a service station on the way to Scotland with no choice other than macdonalds), and once in the pg - although dh couldn't get what I asked for as they've changed the menu as it's been 4 years!

Before that my last one was when I was 14. Seeing an ad won't make me want one. DD still doesn't like burger or nuggets so we will not be going in.

Not sure what they want to achieve by advertising on here - possibly to get some "outraged" mums to comment and get the stories in the national papers so they get more coverage? (am I rather cynical - 6 years in newspapers does that).

GypsyMoth · 04/03/2011 17:20

i think you're right op,'perspective' IS needed here.....i mean,mcdonalds arent single handedly destroying the entire rainforest,are they!!???no!!

i bet there is something in your own day to dat life tyhat is just as guilty and,er,unethical!!

Tizwoz · 04/03/2011 17:20

SeeJaneKick: fine. Don't eat there. My point was that there is nothing FORCING you to go there and there's plenty of other choice. And if they are giving money to MN, surely that's a good thing.

LaWeasel · 04/03/2011 17:21

That list of stuff is crimes is nothing compared to some of the things it has done in the past. I'm happy to support a business that is improving it's practices.

It's using amazon space for soya, but it's not using it for cattle ranches. Of the two it's not really all that awful.

BuzzLiteBeer · 04/03/2011 17:22

If you don't mind its only because you don't understand it? Hmm So if we don't agree with it we are just not as clever as you? And we don't agree with you about advertising we are even stupider and not worth your arguments? Way to win an argument there.

McDonalds = corporate business in a capitalist world.
Mumsnet= also business in a capitalist world.

If you don't like them advertising with whoever they like, go ahead and boycott, and piss off. If you are that concerned about McD's, go actually do something with your principles and stop bleating on here.

If you're really an old style lefty go wave your placard outside McD's and try to resist a chicken nugget.

Rycie · 04/03/2011 17:22

Once again, the issue with McD is not about the food. Please check out mcspotlight.org, or google the McLibel trial. Or fast food nation. Seriously.

glasnost · 04/03/2011 17:22

Good thing to give money to MN? Why?

OP posts:
Tizwoz · 04/03/2011 17:24

Because then that allows MN to continue operating a free service. Or would you rather pay to go on AIBU?

LaWeasel · 04/03/2011 17:24

...so we can keep using it?!

southeastastra · 04/03/2011 17:24

blardy hell - mn did ask for our opinion!!

(piss off! lol) nice
