..with regards to getting pregnant?

Back story - i lost my baby boy last year, had the post mortem results today and they confirmed that it was IUGR that caused his death.
But the consultant also said that i NEED to lose weight before trying again because my weight could cause me to miscarry again?
Now i didnt think i was that big!

But i wonder, has anyone else come across this or heard that you cant carry a child if you are overweight??

Disclaimer - I'm 5'6, size 12-14 and i weigh about 13 stone.

As some others have pointed, you're overweight, and according to the BMI calculator, borderline obese. It seems sensible advice to lose weight. (2 stone to be healthy)

Lovenamechange - I have lost weight before, not a drastic amount but i did manage to flatten out my stomach for a while, i was attending the gym regularly before i found out i was pregnant. Then i had really bad morning sickness, i felt terrible so i just stopped going. It was silly, because light exercise would have been really good for me at that time but i did just give up. And then obviously my weight shot right up again.
See i'm the opposite to you, i let my weight get me down alot. Its frustrating because i really dont actually eat that much and i think thats where i am going wrong. I used to eat 1 meal a day - dinner, but i would have chinese, chips, pizza etc.. something really fattening. So for me knowing i was hardly eating anything was frustrating because i kept getting bigger. (If that makes sense..)
Good luck with WW! And i hope you conceive soon :) ! X

Thanks everyone else for your replies.. I have noticed since yesterday, when telling friends and family how much i weigh they are completely shocked and would never guess that i was over 13 stone! I must really just hide it well.
My DP says that my brain must way a ton Wink, trust me, its not full of intellegence though!

TenSpeed, you obviously know what you need to do and frankly it doesn't sound like you have too far to go to get there. I'm 5ft4 and before I was pregnant I was 11st exactly and wore a loose size 12. I went to the gym regularly, used weights and was the fittest I'd ever been. I was annoyed my weight wouldn't go down, but I was also the smallest in size I'd ever been. To all those who say you can't be a 12-14 if you're 13 stone, that's just not true. I'm not petite by any means and I wouldn't consider myself large build but my bone density and fat percentage just meant I was heavier on the scales but looked better than you might expect an 11st person to look. My personal trainer lady did explain it all to me but I've forgotten it all now.

Good luck, I'm sure you'll get there.

TenSpeedOfGodsBlood · 01/03/2011 15:53

Thanks minibmw, i definately am motivated now so shed the pounds!
Saying that, when i got a bit thinner before, my weight never changed, but doesnt fat turn to muscle? My dad is into his body building etc and he always said to me that the more you get fit the more weight you'll put on because muscle is heavier than fat?

There is actually no clinical evidence for low GI diets as a weight loss therapy.

minibmw2010 · 01/03/2011 15:56

It does, though you don't really notice that until you've shed whatever "excess weight" you have to shed, if you see what I mean. I was 12st12 before we were referred for IVF and the consultant did suggest it would help (but I think she was far nicer than yours frankly) if I lost weight so I managed to get to 11st when we started it (by doing weight watchers and gymming regularly). I did think I'd never lose any but it is doable and without repeating everyone else too much 13st is a bit too heavy, but I'm sure you know all that already.

One of my DC was IUGR, she's fine by the way - nearly 9 years old now. I was 5'5" and 8 stone at the time. I didn't even know that it happened to overweight people (obviously I wasn't, so not the only factor I suppose).

TenSpeedOfGodsBlood · 01/03/2011 15:59

Yeah i know what you mean. I know that losing weight is the right thing to do. And yes, i know i am too heavy, i know i'm over weight. I suppose i just didnt want to admit it to myself.
But now, i'm not doing it for me, because when i've tried for myself in the past i've give up!
This time, its for my children in the future, to give them the best start i possibly could, even when they are the size of a peanut! And that's giving me motivation more than anything.

Thank you TenSpeed. I'm sorry about your baby boy. In my next pregnancy the doc put me on low dose asprin because of it. All the luck in the world for your next.

TenSpeedOfGodsBlood · 01/03/2011 16:19

Thanks Megapixel :), They have prescribed me asprin too, and multivitamins! I have to start taken them straight away aswell.

OP I'm sure you will lose your weight. I am 5 foot 7 and weigh 9 st 2. If I were your weight I would undoubtedly be fat. But now you can get on with losing weight to a sensible level and then put it on for the right reason - a baby tummy! Good luck, try changing one thing at a time. It might be easiest to cut out sugary things for a while and get used to that before you cut down on the carbs.

TenSpeedOfGodsBlood · 01/03/2011 16:28

Thanks Acanthus, that made me smile :)
I have cut out fat and sugar for now, just need to start by having a better diet. I want to lose weight properly so i can keep it off, rather than crash dieting like i've done in the past.
