Are they being unreasoable?

Its a government idea copied from America
(suprise, suprise)

Training ex forces members to be schoolteachers (It has always been open for them to do that.)

Is it a gimmick? The trouble is Cameron learned from Blair the art of regular publicity stunts.

So it is difficult to know what to take seriously.

What do the teaching profession think of it? "Gabby"

Firstly this is my first post on here, I only posted as I found this place by accident through a search engine. I am a father of two boys aged 4 and 2 and I am also a career soldier from the age of 16. I have taken part in most conflicts that have happened within the last 24 years. Incidently the Labour Government took us into 5 of those, including misleading you, the general public about Iraq.

I have and have had for some time aspirations to teach when I leave the service, so I have studied part time and have almost attained my history degree with the OU. History always has been a passion of mine particularly that of my native Scotland. I think perhaps it was the teacher I had who was certainly a character!

I have read with interest here all the stilted stereotypes of the men and women who defend this realm, the archetypal Sergeant Major image complete with stick and moustache! May I ask when was the last time any of you had any sort of contact with any branch of our armed forces? Indeed I am shocked by some of the holier than thou attitudes towards my particular sub-culture. Your armed forces are drawn from all walks of life from YOUR society therefore we are a true reflection of society we recruit from. We have thieves murderers and rapists just as much as what you have in civi street. I have read several stories over the years of teachers having ilicit realtionships, improper conduct etc. Now I do not for one minute believe that all teachers are like that nor am I cunical enough to tar them all with the same brush. However it appears that a few of you on here are willing to do a section of society of which you have no or little contact with, except perhaps the TV!

Please give us some credit we are not about to burst into year 7 with a couple of stun grenades and a hail of lead! Nor are we about to start treating year 7 as "mini recruits". Do you think we treat our own children as such?

Lastly there is no glory in war, nor do we want to be regarded as some "freak show" because we have taken part in them; "check out Mr Smith they say he killed loads of ragheads with his bear hands!" is the flip side of the coin. I think you'll find most soldiers are quite reserved in these matters. I save my war stories for the bar and my grieving for those who have fallen to Remembrance Sunday.

Is it wrong for me to have an ambition as such for a second career?
