28 wks and still have two glasses a week. Midwife and snotty woman at choir disapprove and I don't care! I drink two small glasses, well spaced in the week. I don't ever get drunk when not up the duff and have never in my 40 yrs drunk enough to have a hangover but will continue to have my little treat. Cheers!

holymary · 23/02/2011 19:02

I had a glass with dinner nearly everyday through my pregnancies. Babies all well and thriving since. I think binges are a bad idea, but the odd glass of wine is fine. My BIL is obstetrician and sees no problem with it too.

Bogeyface · 23/02/2011 19:06

Thank you :)

I dont drink at all when I am pg, because I am the sort of person where the first glass gives me a taste for it! Thankfully I dont want anymore of this particular vintage, it is a rather manky bottle I bought to cook with. It cost £2.78 at Tesco and is gopping! Tastes nice in chilli though :o

There is no evidence, to suggest it's harmful. I believe the current "rule" about no alcohol in pregnancy stems from some women not being able to interpret a unit, so rather than give the rest of us the benefit of the doubt, they say no alcohol at all. I think in France they "allow" a couple of units a week and most French babies appear to turn out just fine! I don't drink at all when pg either as I generally find it difficult to stop at one glass, so don't start at all. Anyhow!Wine

PickleSarnie · 23/02/2011 20:14

If you were 6 months pg and it wasn't yet midday then you would perhaps being a bit unreasonable. Although probably less unreasonable and a bit more lush.

Enjoy!

yama · 23/02/2011 20:19

I found the trick was to have a glass early in the evening and then lose the taste for it. Maybe have some ice cream later on.

needmyrootsdone · 23/02/2011 20:20

i had 1 unit/week after the 12 week scan

longsigh · 23/02/2011 21:13

yaBVu... don't drink when pregnant.

yogididabooboo · 23/02/2011 21:15

the odd glass will not hurt you or baby.

If you down 12 WKDs whilst smoking Sovereign lights and standing outside the local kebaby...then you have a problem. Until then dont worry

MamaVoo · 23/02/2011 21:27

Seriously longsigh? I think actual evidence would disagree with you. OP, YANBU.

Portofino · 23/02/2011 21:30

I discussed this with my French SIL. They were allowed a glass with dinner every night. Fair enough, you don't go out and get trollied but the odd glass when you fancy one is fine. I think stress is probably worse for the baby than the wine.

TheSkiingGardener · 23/02/2011 21:31

From what I remember medical opinion was that there is no evidence that drinking up to about 5 units a week has any effect on the baby. Would need to check the numbers though. However, don't go near any posses of DM readers as there joint intake of breath could cause a severe weather event.

TheSkiingGardener · 23/02/2011 21:32

Their! Gah!

winnybella · 23/02/2011 21:32

Yep, longsigh, actual research proves that moderate drinking in pregnancy is fine.

I had a small glass of red wine with both pgs- both children fine, ds very tall/never ill/first in class, dd (2) showing the early signs of genius Grin

Go for it.

winnybella · 23/02/2011 21:33

Sorry- meant to say had a small glass of wine most days.

coocoocachoo · 23/02/2011 21:37

I'm 6 months too and have the occasional tipple. Was in France at DH's Mum's house for a long weekend recently, DH offered me a small glass of rose as everyone else was having one. I was a bit worried as although I have the odd one at home, I knew that DH's sister is a nurse and has had a recent ectopic to boot. True to form she frowned stating (quite slowly so I could understand) "if you drink a glass of wine, the baby drinks one too and in France, we watch our weight too."

Now my French isn't always spot on but I certainly got THAT message....skinny cow!

bristolcities · 23/02/2011 21:42

Does anyone else think it a bit crap that wine bottles have a pic of a pregnant women on the side with big cross through? Patronising just a little. Moderation is the key. In fact im sure I've read an article about mum drinking wine whilst pregnant be beneficial to child later on in life.

PickleSarnie · 23/02/2011 21:49

I thought that meant fat women with ponytails weren't allowed drinking booze bristolcities. For that reason, I always let my hair down first before drinking.

DrSeuss · 23/02/2011 21:58

I thought it meant that this wine was too good for chavs.

moondog · 23/02/2011 22:00

at Pickle

Nowt wrong with a glass of vine-any time.

MissVerinder · 23/02/2011 22:01

Bad to the bone, you are! No, YANBU at all.

bristolcities · 23/02/2011 22:04

YES pickleSarnie that's where i have been going wrong and possibly the reason for the 3 day hangover?

DrSeuss · 23/02/2011 22:05

Coocoo, next time la vache francaise turns on the charm, feign astonishment and say, "Vraiment? Si le bebe va en prendre la moitie de mon verre de vin, faut que j'en prenne deux!"
(If the baby is going to take half my glass of wine, I'll have to drink two of them!") Should be acutes on bebe and moitie but can't type them.

Or just go with, "Mange mon short, je m'enbranle!2
I'll leave that to your DH to translate!

mmsmum · 23/02/2011 22:08

I don't mind what you do with your body and your baby. I didn't drink at all, didn't have any reason too, if there any doubt, any at all, then I was going to play it safe. I didn't drink while breastfeeding either, the thought of giving my baby milk that could possibly, however remotely, have alcohol in it, well I don't have words to finish that sentence!

coocoocachoo · 23/02/2011 22:11

Seuss that made me chuckle, will practice...
