Coocoo, do you know what the second one actually says? If not, don't use it!

MrsRhettButler · 23/02/2011 22:29

i want to know...

op yanbu

Mange mon short = eat my shorts (so far, so inocuous, so Bart Simpson)
The other bit is used to mean "I don't care" but is actually from a reflexive verb, ie one you do to yourself!

Quenelle · 24/02/2011 10:11

YANBU I had the odd glass of wine or half a bitter when pregnant. And I would have a glass of wine when breastfeeding. Actually while breastfeeding in fact.

springbokdoc · 24/02/2011 11:32

Had wine during my pregnancy - it's completely fine. The current 'no alcohol' advice is because they think our pregnancy addled brains can't cope with units and that we'll suddenly think one bottle gin = one unit and get trollied.

squeakytoy · 24/02/2011 11:47

Didnt women used to be advised to drink stout or guiness while pregnant? I dont recall we had generations of babies born with FAS back then...

How many people drink quite regularly for the first two months before they realise they are actually pregnant? I know of loads, and none of them have had any problems.

Obviously getting trollied isnt a good idea, but the occasional glass is not going to do anyone any harm.

As for worrying about breastfeeding if you have a glass of wine, again, there is no evidence that it is harmful to the baby.

EveWasFramed72 · 24/02/2011 12:02

I craved Guinness with my first baby; had one half pint a week after the first 12 weeks. He is 4.5 now, and perfect.

Didn't drink with DC2, only because it made me ill to even think about...just didn't want it the second time around.

Baggypussy · 24/02/2011 13:21

Quen- me too! I really didn't (and don't) see the harm in it. Only problem I found was where to rest the glass?...next time round will fashion a small, flat hat for baby to me to rest my glass on.

Ormirian · 24/02/2011 13:23

ROFL at pickle. I will bear that in mind. I am currently losing weight and never tie my hair back, so will be fine!

bupcakesandcunting · 24/02/2011 13:31

I was on a bottle of gin a day at 6 months on. Everything fine, DS born with hiccups though.

NinkyNonker · 24/02/2011 15:39

I think the regs are one to two units, once or twice a wk is ok past 1st tri, aren't they? Didn't drink when preg, but have the off glass of wine now when bf. I think you have to drink 3 times the drink drive limit before anything gets through.

NinkyNonker · 24/02/2011 15:40

Oh, yanbu!

Ivegotmrbitey · 24/02/2011 15:49

YANBU but I am very jealous! I'm 18 weeks and wine tastes like meths to me at the moment. It smells great and looks delicious but I can't swallow a drop. Mackeson's stout on the other hand tastes like heaven and I have a small (330ml) can about twice a week.

LineRunner · 24/02/2011 15:57

These are the things that we women have, in the past 15 years, either not been 'allowed' to consume or been advised against consuming:

Booze
Coffee
Tea
Curry
Soft cheese
Spicy food
Pate
Too much vitamin [insert preferred letter here]
Medicine
Dog and cat faeces [presumably human is OK]
Meat that hasn't been cooked to a charred lump

It's amazing we're actually allowed to be left in charge of babies, isn't it, given that we need to have our hands slapped every time they go near our mouths.

Personally I hanker back to the days of stout on prescription for pregnant women.

TheSkiingGardener · 25/02/2011 10:40

My midwife asked my why on earth I hadn't had a Guinness when I fancied one. This was last year. She was a good midwife!
