i just think the sooner my family get out of this country the better. Its ridiculous. Human rights has gone mad . The prison system is ludicrous! The immigration laws are a joke. Britain has lost almost all the values we used to stand for. Where i live british people are a minority/ stranger in our own country its unbelieveable that it has got to this point. The 'democracy' we live in is far to leanient. I am disgusted that we allow such things as the burkha here i believe that like france, Britain should ban it. So much money is being spent to enable life to be better for those who come here and claim our benefits, translators etc and running the NHS into the ground.... aibu to wonder WHAT ABOUT US BRITS????

I will assume that this is a serious post, and not just a UKIP member or a troll trying to stir things up, so will play nicely with the OP.

So to take the points made originally, I have some questions for you OP. Perhaps we can provide you with some information that will help you to decide if you really do want to leave the UK?

Human rights has gone mad

In what way? What are the issues that you are concerned about? Can you give us some examples so that we can understand this?

The prison system is ludicrous!

What has happened to the system to make you say this? How would we improve it, do you think?

The immigration laws are a joke.

Well, the immigration laws are certainly in a state of flux at the moment, and the Conservative party are putting caps on this which are preventing a lot of people coming into the country. Is it this that you disagree with?

Britain has lost almost all the values we used to stand for.

What are the values that we stand for, and which are the ones that we have lost?

"Where i live british people are a minority/ stranger in our own country its unbelieveable that it has got to this point^

Firstly, can you define what you mean by British? Secondly, are you sure that you do mean British? Or is this an oblique reference to white people? There are certain areas in this country where people from other countries or religions may be the majority - although these are actually pretty few and far between, in a country that has c. 60 million people living in it.

I grew up in Leeds, and where I lived/went to school, the local population was very Jewish - such that we finished school early on Friday, to allow pupils and teachers to be home to celebrate Shabbat. My family was a minority in this instance.

However, this is nothing new. As a country we have always been accommodating when it comes to other faiths and other nationalities. Often it has been for our commercial benefit - e.g. the immigration from the Caribbean in the 50s/60s, to fill employment posts that were vacant - i.e. that our own citizens were not taking up.

The 'democracy' we live in is far to leanient.

In what way(s)? Compared to places like Egypt or Libya, to give a couple of topical examples, it seems to be working fairly well as far as I can see. Can you tell us where you think it's become too lenient?

I am disgusted that we allow such things as the burkha here i believe that like france, Britain should ban it.

Why should we ban this? Surely this reflects our nation's commitment to freedom of speech? What is it about the burqa that provokes such an emotional response in you? Being 'disgusted' is a pretty strong feeling, and I'm interested to know why you would feel like this.

So much money is being spent to enable life to be better for those who come here and claim our benefits, translators etc

Well, the only people who can come here and claim benefits are those who are here legally. Often they are doing lowly paid jobs, which means that they will qualify for certain benefits (at least under the present system, before we move to the new one). It is a mark of a civilised society that we look after all our citizens. If you're working for a country then surely we should look after you?

and running the NHS into the ground

How is this happening? Please can you tell me how immigrants are achieving this? I would agree with you if you had asserted that Andrew Langley and the Conservatives are doing their best to achieve this, but I don't understand how immigrants are doing this?

aibu to wonder WHAT ABOUT US BRITS????

I can't really say if YABR or YABUR until we know more of your thinking. If you could back up your thoughts, feelings and assertions with some informaiton an facts, this will help me to decide what I think.

BecauseImWorthIt · 23/02/2011 08:53

Apologies for any typos or spelling mistakes, but I'm in a bit of a hurry.

BaroqueAroundTheClock · 23/02/2011 09:53

yes - well done BIWI>

Although on your benefits, translators point.

Actually many legal immigrants aren't allowed to claim benefits, if they do they can be deported. Even working Tax Credits are forbidden irrc

Of those that can claim benefits - these include Asylum Seekers, however they don't get benefits the same as (For example) I do. They get a lower rate, about 75% of the normal rate, have very little choice over which part of the country they live in and are not allowed to work until their asylum application has been processed and they've been granted refugee status. For many this takes years - yet often these people are highly skilled workers who could be a contribute a great deal to our country.

nenevomito · 23/02/2011 10:02

The reason i am wanting to move to Austrailia is because it is a country which is run much better than this one.

Can you give some examples? What is your take on Australia's foreign policy for example? How do you feel about their education policy?

Do you actually know what you are talking about?

nenevomito · 23/02/2011 10:05

Do you also know that the Burkini was invented in Australia?

like these here

Just a thought!

BaroqueAroundTheClock · 23/02/2011 10:12

you see I (genuinely) don't get the outrage of the burkha - when nuns have been wearing habits (covering as much of their face with as a burkha woudl do) for centuries Confused

TryingVeryHard · 23/02/2011 10:22

Baroque, I wonder if it might be to do with the perception that some women wearing burkha wouldn't chose to do so if given a choice. And a while ago there was some debate about security implications - like what's the point of having a passport photo if you're wearing a burkha.
Not defending OP though! I'm an imigrant into the UK myself but OP makes me laugh - I'm probably paying more tax than someone who spells like that :)

TryingVeryHard · 23/02/2011 10:22

sorry wouldn't choose (doh)

BaroqueAroundTheClock · 23/02/2011 10:24

what's wrong with a passport photo with someone wearing a burkha - you can still see their face Confused

TryingVeryHard · 23/02/2011 10:26

Just looked at the Burkini link - they're fab, I could really use some to cover my celulitis...

TryingVeryHard · 23/02/2011 10:28

Am I being ignorant here -sorry - it was about those outfits that cover the face, you can only see the eyes.
But there's a way around those too, the Iris recognition system, so there's nothing wrong with any of them.

BooyFuckingHoo · 23/02/2011 10:32

"I often see people spitting in the street, many are immigrant women."

go into any large town on a saturday night circa 1am and you will find a british man pissing in the street. fact.

CityGirls · 23/02/2011 12:43

OP - don't worry yourself about 'losing the values Britain stand for' as it would appear we don't have any to lose.

BecauseImWorthIt · 23/02/2011 13:00

That's interesting, CityGirls - why do you think that?

mamaLou13 · 23/02/2011 13:12

jenga079 hahaha grow up dear! just loling at all of you misunderstanding my comments and thinking im RACIST just for believing in upholding our values. If we were in another country we would be expected to uphold theirs! dnt see what is so unreasonable about my views and as for a few of you.... (really havn't got the time to go back and name you) i am not starting a fight then running away that is a very juvenile remark.I am totally entitled to my opinions because here we promote freedom of speech!

OP posts:
ifancyashandy · 23/02/2011 13:17

Just for holding up OUR values eh?!

Whose values? Because you certainly ain't holding up mine.

And yes we do promote freedom of speech. But we don't promote speech that inspires hatred.

BaroqueAroundTheClock · 23/02/2011 13:19

ifancy - she's not holding up my values either - and while I might have a "forrin" surname these days (thorugh mariage) I'm as English as they come. With proper Yorkshire blood in me (oh and a bit of South West too Wink)

mamaLou13 · 23/02/2011 13:21

babyheave I have more than just a clue about the oz education system and various other aspects which are nessacery for our move. I don't feel that is has anything to do woth this debate so therefore will not be sharing my thoughts and feelings with you! we are discussing this country not Oz!
tryinveryhard ^Baroque, I wonder if it might be to do with the perception that some women wearing burkha wouldn't chose to do so if given a choice. And a while ago there was some debate about security implications - like what's the point of having a passport photo if you're wearing a burkha.

OP posts:
BaroqueAroundTheClock · 23/02/2011 13:22

Well I'm sure lots of nuns would choose not to wear the habit (actually some orders don't wear it any more through choice) if their particular order didn't dictate it....

I also have a 'forrin' surname. Well, Irish! But thankfully the days of 'No Irish, No Blacks, No Dogs' are well passed us. Shame Mamma seems to want to bring them back.

They'll be river of blood I tells ya! Grin

But am confused.... 'Not defending OP' said by MammaLou at 13.29. I you were the OP Mamma?!

Confused
mamaLou13 · 23/02/2011 13:30

if it inspires hatred in you then shame on you! I don't hate... takes up far too much emotion! I have opinions!
BaroqueAroundTheClock Wed 23-Feb-11 10:12:35

The issue is that it is not a british custom the habit is... so it shouldn't be allowed in this country .... In schools etc? There is a uniform code but certain people do not have to follow that! Nativity plays are not allowed anymore as it offends people! That too is a traditional British custom, if you don't like it don't go!
