christian lady has written a book claiming jesus can cure homosexuality

I'm not getting into the debate of wether there is a God/Jesus etc. It just this has really mad me angry, how can you cure something that is NOT an illness. I find this extremely insulting and judgemental.

LadyOfTheManor: "When God created a partner for Adam He created Eve"

That is a story based on a Babylonian creation myth. That you believe it doesn't make it fact.

JohannaM · 23/02/2011 20:04

"At the time of 'Jesus', Romans were notorious for orgies and such and hence why these ideas against homosexuality flourished."

No they weren't. Sweeping generalisation!

JohannaM · 23/02/2011 20:05

Heterosexual anal sex is probably one of, if not the oldest, forms of contraception.

JohannaM · 23/02/2011 20:10

Anyway at the end of the day what Paul said about anything was only his opinion and nothing more than that.

Paul never expected his views to be regarded as "Scripture". When he mentioned Scripture he was referring to the Septuagint (i.e. the OT written in Greek)

Brilliant answer LeninGrad @19.57.57!

chipmonkey · 23/02/2011 20:13

See, I have a whole problem with that Adam and Eve thing.
Millions of years of evolution as opposed to the earth being created in a week?

Nah, I'll go with evolution!

TheCoalitionNeedsYou · 23/02/2011 20:16

LadyOfThaManor - He didn't.

HecateQueenOfWitches · 23/02/2011 20:16

I like the adam and eve thing.

adam and eve, created in the garden of eden. the only two people in the world. the first people. the people that we are all descended from. they get booted out of the garden and wander around and find...

people.

a whole civilisation.

Yes. someone didn't think that one through before writing, did they? Grin

JohannaM · 23/02/2011 20:18

Read the Epic of Gilgamesh - it's all in there.

LadyOfTheManor · 23/02/2011 20:30

Lenin, I should re phrase that;

"Why didn't God make it so homosexuals could reproduce with eachother "

TheCoalitionNeedsYou · 23/02/2011 20:35

LadyOfThaManor - What has reproduction got to do with anything?

GrimmaTheNome · 23/02/2011 20:35

Why didn't God make it so homosexuals could reproduce with eachother

Because god didn't make homosexuals. Or heterosexuals. Ask a silly question, get a silly answer.

As to why homosexuality exists in many species of animals, some of the possibilities are discussed in the link I gave earlier.

TheCoalitionNeedsYou · 23/02/2011 20:43

Catholic clergy can't reproduce with each other either but they still seem to be about. Or are they against god as well?

They CAN reproduce with each other. I know at least two who have.

GotArt · 23/02/2011 21:10

Sweeping generalization, I suppose, but they still were.

There are plenty of heterosexuals that can't reproduce; how does God answer to that or rather, Christians?

LadyOfTheManor · 23/02/2011 21:14

Lenin, I wasn't aware that two overies or two testicles could make a baby. Forgive me.

I'm not taking either side, nor trying to convince anyone that creation took place, but someone else posted that God made man/woman heterosexual...so if homosexuals are born homosexual (which they say they are) why isn't it possible for them to reproduce WITHOUT the intervention of science or sperm/egg (depending on the said lesbian/gay couple).

If it is/was indeed "natural" why can't either impregnate each other without "interference"?

LadyOfTheManor · 23/02/2011 21:14

opinionated of the manor:
Why do you keep badgering on about reproduction you have become very intent on using that as your arguement as every other point you made has been dismissed. There are people who are heterosexual who can't reproduce is that because they are sinners no it's because unfortunately for them they can't just accept not everybody wants to accept your manipulated christian beliefs and that you are using your religion to manipulate things you are giving sensible Christians a rough ride

Snorbs · 23/02/2011 21:37

Indeed. I always thought the line was "God is love", not "God is reproductive sex".

TheCoalitionNeedsYou · 23/02/2011 21:37

LotM - Again - what does reproduction have to do with anything? What does nature have to do with anything? We have civilisation now - that something is natural or not natural has no bearing on anything.
