christian lady has written a book claiming jesus can cure homosexuality

I'm not getting into the debate of wether there is a God/Jesus etc. It just this has really mad me angry, how can you cure something that is NOT an illness. I find this extremely insulting and judgemental.

Yes Swallow, but take for example...hmm a Muslim or Christian who believes being gay is wrong.

Surely you're trampling on their toes by implying that it is the most natural thing in the world, in the same way they would piss off a homosexual by saying it's not.

Who gets the final word over what is socially included and excluded?

LadyOfTheManor · 01/03/2011 20:23

You could argue that point with Christianity, it is an integral part of peoples' lives.

Swallowed-but if you believed that sexual orientation is a "choice" and not "a natural part of you"...then that argument wouldn't hold up.

I think it is very different LOTM. It is ultimately an issue of gay people being able to form a relationship with another person, and how much criticism they should have to receive because of that.

Being homophobic is not central to anyone's faith, culture or sense of identity. If someone is a Muslim or a Christian (and also homophobic), what is central is their belief in God; the homophobia is a minor part of who they are.

Essentially - People being gay is no more offensive than being a Christian - neither are a comment on anybody else's way of life. Making homophobic remarks it a comment on other people's lives.

I'm sure if MNHQ were remotely bothered about the comments on this thread they would have been deleted by now.

yes you are probably right. i don't really agree with catholic priests not being able to marry. i don't think that is particularly biblical but that is another debate i suppose
