christian lady has written a book claiming jesus can cure homosexuality

I'm not getting into the debate of wether there is a God/Jesus etc. It just this has really mad me angry, how can you cure something that is NOT an illness. I find this extremely insulting and judgemental.

Swallowedafly - I think they ARE allowed to say it on a Parenting Forum unless the Parenting Forum decides they are not allowed to, until Parenting Forums start being regulated by the state.

It's important to distinguish between laws and rules that are necessary to allow something to function though.

Leningrad. I'm sorry if I came across a little curt earlier, but you seem to be drawn to these threads like a moth to a flame, even though you say they upset you? you're not the only gay person on mumsnet, far from it, yet it's always you on these threads.

thecoalitionneedsyou; you mentioned 'going off topic'? talking about homosexuality on a thread about homosexuals is not going off topic, if I, or indeed anyone else, burst in on the chicken keepers and started rambling about God and homosexuality that would be a cause for concern, in this instance I really dont know what you're talking about.

Yes, there was opportunity for a good debate here, but I really haven't got the patience to spend time taking to a handful of people, who quite frankly I find depressing.

Rhinestone, I'm sorry if I embarrassed you, but Thank you for bringing a bit of common sense to the table. However, I wouldn't waste your time in future. ( I'll look out for you on other threads )

I'm off home now to spend time with my family. Have a nice evening.

LadyOfTheManor · 01/03/2011 19:21

Interesting.

What's not being said is this;

"It's ok for people to think what they want, as long as it doesn't offend me".

I don't wish to get "abuse" or "insulted" walking around, but if a man is to say that women are "walking fuck holes", then that is his right. I don't agree with him, and I don't support it, but that doesn't mean he cannot say it.

But yes, like TheCoalition said, there's a difference between rules (on here/workplace/schools etc) and the law.

Different codes of conduct and all that jazz.

TheCoalitionNeedsYou · 01/03/2011 19:25

destinmationzero - The off topic was me giving an example of why a post/poster might be moderated/banned to illustrate that does not infirnge on free speech.

Many MN threads go off topic, MN and MN posters are generally more tolerant of this than many other places. I wasn't saying any post in this thread was, I was saying a thread/post about the Labour party in a Forum about Bananas would be and that deleting/banning it wouldn't infringe free speech. This is all to make the point that free speech doesn't apply to private forums and that MN can set whatever rules they like.

TheCoalitionNeedsYou · 01/03/2011 19:30

destinationzero - fwiw - you can have the debate here, and indeed we have in the past Here for instance

What I still haven't seen anyone supply is an explanation why reproduction or nature are relevent to anything at all in any way.

Sorry to disappear but real life intruded.

Destination - thanks for your nice words, I'll look out for you too.

Lady - FWIW, I know what you were saying at and I don't find you at all homophobic. You just have views which are currently 'unfashionable'!

Coalition - I don't think you and I will ever agree and we're just going in circles. Also no point arguing with someone who won't back their points up.

Rhinestone - what point have I not backed up? What are your thoughts on the limits if free speech as I set out in my examples? Can you show me how human rights legislation means that forum owners can't apply whatever rules they like?

TheCoalitionNeedsYou · 01/03/2011 19:48

There are often comments on here about netmums, their heavier moderation and censorship of swearwords. Do you consider them to be in violation of human rights legislation?

LadyOfTheManor · 01/03/2011 19:54

Lenin- we are never ever going to be able to force social inclusion. Ever. Here's a few stereotypes for you to consider;

White British hate British/non British Muslims.

Muslims hate Jews.

Christians hate gays.

Gays want to be married in churches.

Men hate women.

Women want equality.

Tories hate Labour.

The poor hate the rich.

and so on and so on, nothing you can do will ever change some points of view. But it is CRUCIAL that people can think like that, and it is CRUCIAL that people can respond in whichever way they wish.

But I could say;

"I don't want gay people assuming they are natural" on THIS forum. It's horses for courses.

We can each say what we like-just because people disagree doesn't make them wrong, it makes them different from you.
