Name-Change if you want to - I have. AIBU to be curious what other people earn?

I am a nurse. Qualified 6 years. Work 30 hours a week.

I earn about 25k (with unsocial hours etc added in)

DishDashDosh · 20/02/2011 21:14

I used to make £75k (inc benefits) working full time as a consultant. Now I'm working freelance and I charge between £500-1000/day. But I don't work that much so don't expect to earn anywhere near what I used to. But I get more time with the DC so I'm hoping it will be worth it.

trixymalixy · 20/02/2011 21:14

Novice, some GPs are partners in the practice so self employed, some are employees and therefore salaried.

BrandyAlexander · 20/02/2011 21:17

Ah..... (light dawns!), thanks Trixy :)

EleanorJosie · 20/02/2011 21:20

Lawyer - 55k 4 days a week. Good but I'd rather scale back to 2/3 days, those jobs are as rare as hen's teeth in the legal prof though.

Halfbaked · 20/02/2011 21:21

Teacher outer London with responsibility £38k but currently smp of £500 pcm all as on maternity. Been teaching 9 years, work silly hours, including much of the holidays and don't enjoy it anymore. :(
DH earns £46k also a teacher but runs a department.

Looking at becoming a SAHM and moving out of London. We expect our income to drop by at least half, but life is about more than money.

FunnysInTheGarden · 20/02/2011 21:22

was £90k before recession, now £45k but with much less stress and better prospects. Am a solicitor.

working9while5 · 20/02/2011 21:23

14400 for 2.5 days a week, term time only.
WTE salary was £32something. 5.5 yrs post-qual.

Bakingboy · 20/02/2011 21:25

Salary of £107k for working in finance in the city (NOT a banker), plus bonus of around £20k DP earns £37k working 30 hours a week. Would willingly earn less to spend more time with DC but not possible in this job (leave home at 7am and back around 8pm or frequently later).

Hulababy · 20/02/2011 21:27

I am a level 3 TA and work 20 hours a week. I get paid under £9k. I was a teacher and earnt a lot more but opted for an easier option whilst dd is younger. means I am there for dd every evening and in holidays, and have time to keepnthebhouse sorted, etc without in disturbing our family weekends.

We are fortunate as dh is an equity partner of a solicitor's practice and earns a substantial salary meaning we have a great standard of living. It works very well for us.

Lizbertnobacon · 20/02/2011 21:30

£26,000 for 28 hours a week as a lawyer in a largeish regional firm in the midlands.
Am 3 years pqe. Not had a pay rise since qualification but to be honest I am just glad I was not made redundant when the recession hit!

trixymalixy · 20/02/2011 21:32

I think it's interesting how many people on this thread with six figure salaries, have done or are thinking about changing careers to get a better work life balance. Sounds like the pound of flesh required isn't always worth the salary.

Doha · 20/02/2011 21:34

Nurse 34 hours £40,000--> Monday to Friday. Overtime available if wantedNo thanks

DishDashDosh · 20/02/2011 21:35

trixy - not that I used to earn 6 figures but I did get to the point hwre if I wanted to earn more, I would have had to work even more hours than I was. Even then I was working 60 hours some weeks. You don't get paid £50k+ if you want to work 9-5

allatsea1 · 20/02/2011 21:35

Full time.

Around 25k

Pittance.

Quite like it though. More or less stress free.

trixymalixy · 20/02/2011 21:37

I earn 50k+ and work 9-5. I took a pay cut to do that though.

FunnysInTheGarden · 20/02/2011 21:37

I get paid £45k and work 9-5, so just under the £50k cut off! I used to work 9-5 and get paid £90k. It doesn't follow that good money =nuts hours

EleanorJosie · 20/02/2011 21:38

But low paid jobs don't always come with a work life balance either. Plenty of people (and some on this thread) work all the hours and get paid very little.

meejamanager · 20/02/2011 21:39

I work in a public funded TV archive and am paid just over £21,000. I've been there more than 10 years and work mon-fri, no overtime.

I am Shock at some of the salaries on here.

allatsea1 · 20/02/2011 21:41

Agree with Eleanor there - my last job was incredibly stressful and I had a lot of responsibility (too much really) and was paid under 15k.

ambarth · 20/02/2011 21:42

Shock at how high or how low? meeja

polocentre · 20/02/2011 21:44

Trixy - I am fine with my career at the moment although a few years ago I moved jobs as my hours were absurd. I'd be earning more if I'd stayed.

DH works extremely long hours under stressful conditions and is looking to move to something with more balance.

Hulababy · 20/02/2011 21:44

Btw not all lawyers have to work silly hours for high pay. Dh has never done hours. Even as equity he doesn't despite his earnings. He still takes dd to school and is still home around 6:30 at night to eat together. He rarely brings work home, he never works weekends. And he loves his jib, hasbplenty of long "business lunches" and golf days with clients. He works hard and he works very efficiently, and he is extremely good at his jib. But overall he loves it and we have a fab work life balance. Out of London solicitors can have a life and a great income! He would recommend it to dd if she was interested in the future.

pickaname · 20/02/2011 21:46

namechanged, I'm sahm to 3 dc under 6 but dh earns around 250k. He owns an internet company with a couple of partners, built it up over the last 12 years or so from scratch. He's now at the stage where he just goes in for meetings as and when so generally a few days a week. I know I'm very lucky to be in the situation I am and never ever take it for granted.

Hulababy · 20/02/2011 21:47

Forgot to add - I guess dh gets paid lots to reflect the risks and responsibilities he has. However as his income is based on the firms profits he could technically earn nothing in a bad year. Fortunately this is unlikely and never occured in the many years the firm has traded, but the risk exists.

meejamanager · 20/02/2011 21:50

ambarth - both. Some are so high (30k for part time hours!) and others so low.

I work somewhere that people assume pays great salaries but in my job, although I consider my pay to be good for what I do, I earn a pittance compared to many here.
