to think that my friend is being ridiculously PFP about insisting on this posh food for her little darling?

Precious First Puppy, that is...

My friend and I are both getting puppies soon, which are currently only three weeks old. She is not local, and I am liaising with the breeder/owner on her behalf.

Today, I have been given instructions to ask the lady if she will wean my friend's puppy onto a brand of food that one can only buy in the doggy equivalent of Waitrose, which is organic, omega-3 filled gluten-effing-free cordon-bleu standard canine cuisine.

I will ask, of course, but given that it will be difficult to feed the puppies separately and that the other owners are unlikely to be quite so discriminating in their choice of nourishment for their pooches, and will then have to switch their ruined little princesses onto more easily-available cheaper fare, AIBU to tell my friend she is a nitwit?

Bearing in mind that no matter how lovely, we are talking about a bloody dog- an animal which might occasionally eat its own excrement and certainly routinely rims itself for its own amusement...

Am I Being Unreasonable?

BitOfFun · 19/02/2011 22:25

The new puppy is called Pickle Grin

It will be a tongue twister when I call them.

In fact, when referring to choosing photographs, I will be able to say that I picked a pic of Pickle and Pepper Grin

Have read most of this thread.

YANBU OP.

However, what does everyone recommend for cats. I bought some special stuff from the vets that the vets said was really good for them but they wouldn't touch it so it's been Whiskers ever since Blush What should I be feeding them? Also, what ratio of wet:dry food?

Sorry for asking for cat advice on your thread OP, but everyone seems to be so pet knowledgeable.

NO WAY BOF

She didn't!?

I like TicTac actually. Cute and good to heel to.

Re CATS - avoid Go CAt, loaded with salt, James Wellbeloved is good for older cats, or Fish4Cats, as Shiney has said before.

The more meat the better, the less wheat/cereal the better.

Fish and non reformed meats are ideal.

Night all x

We got some of that stuff for our precious first born pussy... She was off her food and I hoped it might tempt her. The result was a big pile of sick right in the middle of our antique persian carpet.

Some of these diets are too rich for delicate stomachs. The breeder will know exactly what's best for the puppy and will usually give you some food to take away with you to make sure it doesn't get an upset stomach from changing foods suddenly.

Precious Pussy now only eats special vets diet food... It DH finds out how much it costs she'll be dispatched to Battersea ASAP - so shhhhh!!

Re: bathing dogs, malamutes, huskies and certain other spitz-type dogs don't have a doggy odour. They smell when wet but when dry smell only of a nice clean fur smell. No bathing required. :)

I am under no impression that my house doesn't smell of dog, I'm sure it does, but it's not that greasy unpleasant doggy smell, just a general sense that something that rolls in mud and shit lives here... Grin

BitOfFun · 19/02/2011 23:37

And if you have children, that is par for the course really, Well, it is here anyway Grin

Don't malamutes, huskies and certain other spitz-type dogs roll in fox shit then? Because that's what Dill stinks of. [sigh]

Baffledandbewildered · 20/02/2011 01:21

Please use puppy shampoo as it is better for pups on long coated breeds we use conditioner obviously not on wire haired breeds. Try getting puppies used to a blow dryer too helps when they are big and hairy if they don't freak out when they need drying.

Fish4dogs is a great food and they do a special puppy one
