wy did they mess around with a classic and turn it into a xfactor type audition

Aseaandthreestars yy to shouting at the Kiwi masterchefs mangling their vowels. I heard myself squawking 'it's FISH not FESH' and 'BRET, he's called BRET, fgs, not BRIT' several times.

Chandon · 19/02/2011 08:21

it's rubbish now, we used to love it but switched off after 10 minutes.

Toygirl · 19/02/2011 10:12

I am loving it but I love the Australian one. Trust me, it will get better! Some people are just stuck in their ways and hate change.

Live a little people!

GetOrfMoiLand · 19/02/2011 11:04

pekkala and aseaandthreestars yes me and DP are the same with the flat vowels.

I watched it avidly last night and was cheering on that pretty girl with her pineapple fritters - I love it. Even made that creepy guy with the NHS specs (called something bizarre like Vinnie McVinnie or summat) smile.

It's the final on Sunday.

BoffinMum · 19/02/2011 12:28

Don't know what all the fuss is about, they're only getting a bit of dinner on, and if it all goes wrong, they could always eat out (as Frank Skinner puts it so well).

utterlyslutterly · 19/02/2011 12:32

All that sweat dripping in the food - yuk

carriedababi · 19/02/2011 15:10

its now shite on toast

i think greg wallace must be 9 months pregnant, by the size of his stomach!
bloody hell

prettybird · 19/02/2011 15:38

I'm with normantebbit and CrispyCakeHead: I preferred the *original( version with Lloud Grossman.

They were far more likely to encourage you to cook yourslef: I loved the way the judges commented on how the three courses balanced each other. I still have the cook books from 4 of the series which I often refer to for inspiration and/or recipes

I've stopped watching Mastershout Masterchef as it is no longer a cookery show and is just yet another a reality show.

milkmoustache · 19/02/2011 18:01

Cooking doesn't get more emotionally manipulative than this.

recycledteen · 19/02/2011 19:00

Why the irritatingly l-o-o-o-o-o-o-ng pause between each announcement on which contestant is staying and which is going on many TV progs these days. Flipping awful.

NosyRosie · 19/02/2011 20:28

Can't stand the new version.

It doesn't show the same skill as the invention test; like someone else said, they can easily spend weeks practising whatever dish they preparing for the audition.

Has no one else wondered how they manage to get exactly 20 people through? If they're voting straight away how do they know they're not going to send the first 20 through and suddenly realise they've used up all their aprons?

Speaking of aprons, I reckon there'll be one of those dramatic "you must now remove your apron and leave the competition" moment when people are chucked off. I seem to remember something similar when they were choosing a Joseph.

joshark · 19/02/2011 22:39

its bloody shite! i mean seriously they come running out of that room crying into the arms of a loved one " you have not won the effing competion you are just in it " bring back the old style!!!!! old skool rules! i love it i am sooooooooooooooo gutted sorry rant over mwah x x x

joshark · 19/02/2011 22:42

"Live a little people!" when it comes to masterchef i just cant!!!! :) x

bean612 · 20/02/2011 08:45

I've never watched either X Factor or Masterchef, apart from the odd glimpse, but when I was channel-hopping on Thursday I caught a few mins of Mchef and that was my immediate first reaction - X Factor exactly. Bloody annoying and I'm not even a fan...

coocoocachoo · 20/02/2011 10:02

I agree that the UK Masterchef is a bit pants but the Australian version (which emcraces all the reality TV shite that people say they don't like) is awesome!

Not quite sure why it doesn't work over here in the UK...but I do agree that it doesn't and the old format was better. I don't bother watching it anymore but CAN NOT WAIT for the next Aussie Masterchef to start (not the kids one)...probably next year now.

EleanorJosie · 20/02/2011 23:13

I don't like X-Factor but I am quite enjoying this new version so far.

EleanorJosie · 20/02/2011 23:14

Don't forget the format has already been extensively messed with - I started watching in the Lloyd Grossman days!

Dixiebell · 21/02/2011 11:53

I hate the new X Factor stylee. But India Fisher is the most annoying thing.

^Greg: Barry, you've split the judges, you'll have to come back tommorrow and cook again.

India's voiceover: Barry has split the judges. He'll have to come back tomorrow and cook again.^

Argh! Just stop telling us what we've just seen, woman.

Jux · 24/02/2011 01:00

I like this version better, but they're still in very early stages. Next week will give a better idea of what it's really like.

I would love to see a cookery programme which wasn't based on 'fine dining'. I'd like one where someone says "OK here's how to reduce a sauce" "this is what you need to do to thicken something" "Mace is great with ...." and stuff like that.
