I wonder if adults ever do that Lapland trip to Santa minus children...Confused

EleanorJosie · 17/02/2011 16:38

Centreparcs doesn't particularly appeal to me - even with kids as it seems really expensive for one thing.

I had quite a number of cuddly toys before I had children - they have stolen them now :), I watched Teletubbies and Rosie and Jim at university, I kept quite a lot of my books from childhood - and bought some more I was missing from eBay, before I had kids. Ostensibly to build up a library for any future children we might have...but in truth I quite liked reading them myself. I read all the Harry Potter books as an adult, and books 4 to 7 I pre-ordered on Amazon so I could read them on the first day they came out! Number 5 and 7 coincided neatly with having just had my daughters as well (though that wasn't planned :))so I was reading them while BFing.

I love kids films, books, toys, TV- love the imagination and innocence. I guess I'm just a big kid at heart.

But it doesn't mean I don't act like an adult in my life. YABU I'm afraid - Why not try to be more tolerant of others' likes and dislikes? To not be seems rather, well, childish to me.

EleanorJosie · 17/02/2011 16:41

I also like grown up things too I should add - like drinking alcohol, eating out, reading big thick books with lots of words and no pictures and listening to Radio 4. Grin

our PTA chair wears a rain jacket covered in minnie mouse

I refuse to take her seriously

redpanda13 · 17/02/2011 16:44

Never been to centerparcs but I did go to an aquapark while on holiday in Spain once. Really one of the most fun days out ever. My mum and I were on all the slides while my sis (then 11) sat in the shade and moaned.

I found it very odd to see lots of childless couples at disneyland paris. I'll see if I can change my opinion now that deathstare has fessed up.

I remember one of dd1's after-school club carers (whose own children had left home) going on and on every single day about her planned trip to disneyland and her breakfast with winnie-the-pooh and I just wanted to scream 'stop tormenting a 5 year old CHILD, you loon!'

What is Club 33? And why did I not hear of that?

Peter Pan's flight was my Favourite Ride, by the way. Accompanied by at least one child, natch.

lesley33 · 17/02/2011 17:12

I have always gone to centreparcs during unpopular times - also the cheapest time to go. Yes there have been children in the pool, but it has never been heaving and is still fun being in there.

The spa is also quite quiet. I have been in there on an evening when there has been less than 10 adults.

I wouldn't want to go to a spa for a whole day as I would get bored. Its great doing archery in the morning, playing in the wave pool in the afternoon and then spending the evening in the spa.

It makes for a very relaxing weekend.

Glitterandglue · 17/02/2011 17:22

The thing I like about places full of kids, aside from the fact that I do just genuinely enjoy rides like the teacups and whatnot, is the fact that kids don't judge like adults do.

Until we teach them to, that is.

PukeyMummy · 17/02/2011 17:26

Did the spa at CenterParcs once. It was very overpriced, very crowded and mediocre (at best). Never again - waste of money!

But the accommodation is v.cheap per head for a group of adults. I've seen groups of older teenagers/students there before and can understand why they do it.

inthesticks · 17/02/2011 17:29

It's a new thing this adults only groups at CP. I first went when my DCs were very small about 15 years ago and don't recall seeing anyone without children.
Took them last year and could not believe the change. Lots of groups of twentysomethings. There were even hen parties there.
With small kids or teenagers CPs fits the bill for an easy break in UK weather but as a destination of choice without children..never.

Shock at seeing DawnTigga actually cross

and I love your sign offs. You are lovely.

and Cod- the proles can't afford CP (actually, neither can I. Unless tis Abroad where the activities seem to be more based around getting battered drunk)

oiwhatsoccuring · 17/02/2011 17:43

I can see how for a group of female friends CP would "work".
I however hate Spas - am not good at being told to relax.
Still have nightmares over my "treat" day at the Sanctuary. All those naked women - bleurgh.
"proper" spas eg Ragdale Hall, Champeneys. Grayshott etc bring me out in hives - full of Golf Club Women - you know, the terribly pleased to be Middle Class ones, generally 50+, arriving in their neat faux by faux's.
Grim.
For our 40th birthdays we are having a girls weekend in London - a suite in a 5 star hotel, personal shopper booked, Ivy booked, nightclub booked ( but we'll be asleep before we get there). No chlorine or relaxing involved, thank God.

findingthepath · 17/02/2011 17:48

Gerr i got married at disneyworld just me and DH no kids Angry

I loved every minute of it. Yes i'm a big kid but so what?

My DN was there for a few days and one of my best memories is of him saying "Pretty lights" at the firework display at the magic kindom.

If adults were not intrested at going on holiday to a child friendly place then why do they have childern, cos i thout it was just a reason to go see childrens films and go to disneyland Confused

Also i can't wait to go back there with DS and show him where mummy and daddy got married.

My first 'treat' day to myself post-DC's was at the Sanctuary - found it claustrophobic, the water highly chlorinated and felt like a freak cos I wasn't surrounded by mates Grin.
