If you are too, please vote for 38 Degrees to take it on as a campaign.

I'm going to leave this now as I'm getting annoyed.

The people who like this stuff need have no fear. Page 3 is highly unlikely to be banned or changed. Young girls will continue to have to sit next to men salivating over it, and hide how it makes them feel. Highly sexualised images of women are everywhere and getting more and more prevalent and extreme. Girls are under pressure younger and younger to dress and behave in a sexualised manner. Men who harrass females on the street need not fear repurcussions. Men can catcall, follow and even grope with impunity.

Everything is right with the world Hmm

Good post Sardine

JessinAvalon · 17/02/2011 22:29

One day, SardineQueen, I hope that it will go. Surely people will realise that having a pair of tits served up for men's delectation in a daily "newspaper" is just outdated and is not ironic in the slightest.

I do wonder how once this was seen as sexist and now it is just seen as "ironically sexist", i.e. if you don't get the joke (whatever the joke is) then you're an uptight jealous whatever.

Ryoko · 17/02/2011 22:39

Bout time there was a page 4 full of naked men (decent looking ones who are not gay).

JamieLeeCurtis · 17/02/2011 22:48

Ryoko. It would be interesting to see how that made men feel wouldn't it?

JamieLeeCurtis · 17/02/2011 22:49

-I would not mind if they were gay. I don't think one can tell just by looking at their willies

JessinAvalon · 17/02/2011 22:59

So we could achieve equality by objectifying men too?!

How about The Stun:

See the male equivalent here

And the irony of the fact that the England Women's football team is actually rather good ....

two words, Beach Volleyball

Ryoko · 17/02/2011 23:14

Well I for one don't want to see seriously gay guys, you can tell and it's a turn off so.

and no fat northerners and no one too hairy.

I once walked into a lamp post while looking at some guys arse, thankfully no one seemed to notice, altho I've nearly done it again on several occasions Hmm

Bassett22 · 17/02/2011 23:15

Just don't read the Sun! There's an awful lot about that paper I'd campaign to have removed before I got round to the tawdry glamour shot.

Any newsagents will have all sorts of mags (nuts, zoo etc) that are worse, freely available (ie not top shelf) and deemed acceptable to read in public. It's the way of things.

laughinglil · 17/02/2011 23:21

get a life..are you the same type of women that gets jealous because your husband might watch a bit of porn and think omg he is cheating on me.
The girls choose to do this and thats their buisness. If you don't want to see it don't buy it!

Ryoko · 17/02/2011 23:25

The readership figures of things like Zoo and Nuts is dropping by the day, apparently guys are getting fed up with air brushed air heads, cars and football filled rags written by 10 year olds.

Shame woman never seem to get bored of bullshit gossip rags filled with diet tips and exclusives with a 5 page spread on the inch of fat found on posh when she whored herself out at some crappy opening for something no one gives a damn about.

Lets face it, it's all crap, they blame the internet for stealing readers away from mags and papers but maybe they need to take a cold hard look at themselves and think about why the internet is so appealing (is it maybe because you can find what you want without all the crap maybe?).

Wook · 17/02/2011 23:29

OP YANBU at all, quite right to raise it.

JessinAvalon · 18/02/2011 07:30

@Bassett22 and LaughingLil - if you read a selection of the other posts, you'll see why it is our business if girls choose to do this and why it's not so simple as 'if you don't like it, don't buy it'. I won't explain it again as several posters have explained how it does affect other women. Please have a read.

laughinggil - NO. And I have good life, thanks very much

DrNortherner · 18/02/2011 07:53

Do you think twat like lorry drivers who do 'vigorous cunnilingus actions' (still chuckling at that description) will ever cease to exist? Do you think lack of page 3 will stop his twattish behaviour? Seriously?

These men will always be twats with porn or without.

If it were me I'd have just done a vigourous wanking action back at him.

SarfEasticated · 18/02/2011 08:13

If women want to serve themselves up as 'glamour models' or feature in porno that's up to them, I don't think it's appropriate to have pictures of young women in just her pants in a national newspaper.

Unrulysun · 18/02/2011 11:58

DrNortherner I think it's all part if the way that men see women. I think we should try to erode the worst parts of that, I think that P3 is one if these, I don't think it has any place in a 'news'paper in 2011, I think people should read the thread before they post the same old bollocks again (Laughinglil not you) and I think if we don't like aspects of the society in which we find ourselves we should try to make it better.

doggiesayswoof · 18/02/2011 12:02

Yes, they will always be twats

Is that really an argument for shrugging your shoulders and putting up with any amount of shitty objectifying outdated bullshit?

Let's make the sexist, disgusting behaviour less NORMAL please

Also to clarify - anti Page 3 does not equal anti porn. I and many others on this thread don't think soft porn should be in "news"papers

(Strangely I am struggling to find the phrase "vigorous cunnilingus actions" amusing when I think about someone directing such a gesture at my DD in a few years)

doggiesayswoof · 18/02/2011 12:03

unrulysun that's what I was trying to say, thanks

Unrulysun · 18/02/2011 12:11

Doggiesayswoof exactly - our daughters, not only ourselves.

OP YANBU and I've signed.
Thanks for the brilliant posts fellow feminists.

diddl · 18/02/2011 15:47

"I think it's all part if the way that men see women"

TBH I think that that is insulting to most men.

I don´t think that most men think that women want to be objectified/leered at/have rude gestures made at them.

And I think that those who do would think that way regardless of tits in the Sun.
