I melted my chip pan to the hob..

Not an AIBU but i dont know where else to post?

My hob is now covered in melted plastic.. i have tried scrubbing with bleach and hob cleaner, nothing is working!

Any ideas??

not a lot really... what is the hob made of?

If it is big globs of plastic then you could ttry chipping it off, but that will probably scratch the metal.

For safetys sake, buy a deep fat fryer.

Try posting over in the household dept.
Is your hob flat (electric) or does it have the lift out grating things that gas ones do?

Tricky - is it a ceramic hob? Could you heat the hob up to re-melt the plastic then pick it off - carefully -??

It has spread like a film of plastic over it. Oh it is a deep fat fryer, i couldnt think of the word.

It melted the whole of the bottom off and through the wire! Ive bought a new one, just cant use my cooker at the minute!

I tried to heat it up again but it went on fire a little bit.. :/ oh god.

Surely a plastic chip pan has a bit of a design flaw?

I think it would be easier to pick off when completely cooled probably.

Stop trying to heat it up. IIWY, i would go and buy a scraper thing. We have a very sharp one, it has a replacable stanley knife blade in it.
Use it carefully and you may get away with it.
Just out of interest, why did you have the heat on under a DFF?

Is it one of those you plug in and it has an insulated case? I would look at a new hob, because you won't get that off without possibly damaging the glass. Home insurance?

Lol just to confirm my stupidity, my DP sat it on top of the cooker so the steam goes up into the extractor fan, but it was sitting on one of the hob buttons, so i flattended it and it must have turned the hob on.. then all i could smell was burning plastic! I had set my kitchen on fire for the 2nd time in 2 years.. i should never have left home! lol

How on earth did you manage that?

Maybe picking it off once cooled will work?

So sorry I gave you such crap advice Mary - I suppose I thought if you could gently re-heat the plastic it might pick off if it was a flat ceramic hob.

Sorry for being snappy, the over emotionals are at it again and I am waiting for either Yum Yum Franky or one of his colleagues.
IIWY, as I said, just leave it to cook down then use a blade to scrape it away.

Thats alright Salmotrutta, thing is, its a built in cooker.. i dont even know if i can replace it. Ah well my own stupid fault!

Let it cool, then it might chip off, but be careful!

I have melted a plastic colander to a hob before, and it wasn't perfect, but it did largely chip off once cooled.

you bought a new deep fat fryer before sorting out your hob? i think you need to revisit your healthy eating plan

I done something simular one but with a baby steraliser and the bottles in
I know It took a while but I scrubbed it off with a scrubber and washing up liquid

DuplicitousBitch My DP eats the worst kind of food you can imagine! I have tried to change that.. but no luck! I dont use the Deep fat fryer for myself personally.
Either way, thats not my issue.
