Inspired by another thread.

I personally would rather use donated milk. If you wouldn't - why not?

X post Wannabe - You put it better than me

fedupofnamechanging · 15/02/2011 14:20

good post wannaBe

OhForFucknessSake · 15/02/2011 14:21

so wannabe if there was a study that showed BF should be exclusive tile 1 year (there isn't it's just an example) that someone involved with BFing would benefit financially from you would take their findings as unbiased would you?

MissyKLo · 15/02/2011 14:21

Wannabe

The new study that said babies could be weaned earlier wasn't saying wean from bm but that some babies could be weaned to food earlier so don't really understand your point there.

Breastmilk is best and that's that!

giliair · 15/02/2011 14:21

If I was unable to provide colostrum then yes I would accept donated bm. Once past that stage I would prefer to use formula if unable to bf myself.

noodle69 · 15/02/2011 14:22

I wouldnt use it no. If I thought it was that vital I would of just fed them my breastmilk but I gave mine formula. Working with kids has shown me very sickly breastfed kids and very healthy children raised on formula. I think a lot is done to luck and genetics tbh

fedupofnamechanging · 15/02/2011 14:22

Having a bias, doesn't necessarily mean that you are telling lies

OhForFucknessSake · 15/02/2011 14:23

of course it doesn't karma, but you are stil biased and are set to benefit from the results leaning a certain way. it provides incentive for some findings to be unpublished.

MissyKLo · 15/02/2011 14:23

Tbh I don't underhand how formula could ever suit
a baby better given the benefits of breastmilk! Not saying that to argue but I just don't get that argument as there is nothing better for a baby than breastmilk

TimeWasting · 15/02/2011 14:24

Wannabe it's simply not true that WHO guidelines are based on third world countries. They specify if guidelines are for different populations.

fedupofnamechanging · 15/02/2011 14:24

That is true OFFS

OhForFucknessSake · 15/02/2011 14:26

i think I'll namechange back, my name looks quite agressive.

MissyKLo · 15/02/2011 14:26

Funny how I have never come across
That noodle - loads of sickly bf kids and oh so healthy formula kids

Hmm

Think I will stick with the breast milk from the evidence I have seen

HHLimbo · 15/02/2011 14:27

OP I totally agree, especially in hospitals for sick and premature babies, its really important. Would also be good for newborns who's mum cant BF, .

Its great that this is already set up and running in some areas, but none in Wales or the SW yet..

bubbleymummy · 15/02/2011 14:27

Wannabe - those studies are not all based in third world countries and the recommendations from the WHO are based on studies from developed and developing countries around the world.

This discussion was simply to see if people would prefer to use donated milk if it was available. I am in no way trying to have a go at people who had to use formula because unfortunately the alternative we are discussing doesn't exist. You are entitled go your opinion that bf and bm isn't that important but studies do disagree with you.

OP posts:
ilovesprouts · 15/02/2011 14:27

no

noodle69 · 15/02/2011 14:29

I just work with 100s of kida and some are healthy having been formula fed and some breat fed whereas some are very sickly in same situations.

I amd not saying one is more healthy than the other I am just saying that I dont think its that big a deal and everyone should do whichever they want.

MilaMae · 15/02/2011 14:31

Missy I think what Noodle is saying that when faced with a class of 5 year olds(in my case) the sickly kids are without fail the ones fed on a diet of crap and the healthy are those that bounce in with a lunchbox containing a balanced meal.

Buggar all to do with who was bf or not which in actual fact nobody knows or cares.

wannaBe · 15/02/2011 14:31

no studies are unbiased. If you're a car manufacturer you're not going to do a study into the benefits of exercise, or if you're a tobacco company you're not going to do research into the damaging effects of passive smoking.

JeremyVile · 15/02/2011 14:31

MissyKlo - you seem to get riled whenever someone mentions that formula fed babies can be healthy babies.

Why is that? There's no denying that, on an otherwise level playing field, BM is the best option, so you can't be threatened by positive stories of formula feeding. It doesn't make sense that you get so...i dont know, irritated? by it.

I think its great that both ff and BF baies thrive Smile

MilaMae · 15/02/2011 14:31

I'm off now too, baby just waking.

bubbleymummy · 15/02/2011 14:32

Noodle, did you think formula was better for them? Sorry to pry, I'm just very surprised that so many people actually don't see the point in breastfeeding.

OP posts:
noodle69 · 15/02/2011 14:34

I have just the one and I formula fed. I didnt feel the need to breastfeed and I dont really think it makes that much of a difference.

TimeWasting · 15/02/2011 14:35

Mila, I notice that my bf child is healthy and my ff child is unhealthy. But as I am aware that I am biased, I don't base all my conclusions on infant feeding on just my own observations. Science and that.
