i did this today, and she said i can't bend down to pick it up.

imo, if you can clean up after a dog you really shouldn't have one.

Then how does she feed the dog if she can't bend down??

I bet if there was a £20 note on the ground it wouldn't be an issue.

FabbyChic · 14/02/2011 22:06

Then her dog should not shit in the street! You can buy a long arm type of thing to get it up with she is being unreasonable.

I pick up my dog shit even when I had a bad back, I'd hate to think of someone walking it into their house.

CameronCook · 14/02/2011 22:06

YWNBU - can't stand people who won't clean up after their dogs

SlightlyTubbyHali · 14/02/2011 22:06

Agreed. Picking up the poo is part of being a good dog owner. Makes me FUME when people don't.

caffeineandchocolate · 14/02/2011 22:07

yanbu.

Thingumy · 14/02/2011 22:07

I would of took a picture of her and her dog and the shit and contacted the local council.

Fuck the age of the person, they are committing an offence.

YANBU. Dog mess on pavements = foul. Health hazard. I'm bloody sick of attempting to slalom myself and 2 dcs down Dogshit Alley (which is apparently where we live now). I often wonder whether dog owners who don't clean up after their dogs actually LIKE having the stuff ground into their carpets, hence why they don't think they have to clean it up.
If you can't bend to pick up after your dog, either a) buy a poop scoop with a handle, or
b) don't have a dog.

mollymawk · 14/02/2011 22:11

YANBU. This makes me want to scream.
What happened after that?

PersonalClown · 14/02/2011 22:15

Bollocks can she not bend down.

I have scoliosis, nerve damage and dodgy knees and I can still pick up after my dogs.

sue52 · 14/02/2011 22:17

YANBU. I always pick up my dogs poo, it's not my favourite part of pet ownership but if I choose to keep dogs it's my responsibility.

mitochondria · 14/02/2011 22:22

YANBU.

If she really can't pick it up, she should either get rid of the dog or get someone else to walk it for her.

How does she feed it if she can't bend down?

whydobirdssuddenlyappear · 14/02/2011 22:25

Not just how does she feed it. How does she groom it. How does she check its claws if she can't bend to look, or to lift it up. How does she clean its teeth, or at least check them. Difficult to look after an animal properly if you can't get down to its level, or bring it up to yours, to make sure everything's ok.

parakeet · 14/02/2011 22:28

I suppose in theory she could have bought the dog when in good health, then later her back deteriorated.

But I bet she was just lying.

lololizzy · 14/02/2011 22:28

disgusting. have just thrown away another good pair of boots because i refuse to scrub dog poo off them as it makes me feel sick and gets in all the ridges of the sole and stitching so you can never quite get rid of it.

HaveToWearHeels · 14/02/2011 22:37

YANBU
I have a dog and every single coat and bag I own has a nappy sack in it (cheaper than poo bags), come to think of it so do both pushchairs and even the storage part of DD ride on truck lol.
If she can't bend down to pick it up she should let it shit in her own garden and not in a public place.

Salmotrutta · 14/02/2011 22:40

It's the selfish B***ds who let their dogs out in the dark, late at night, to crap everywhere that really get on my goat.
And people who let their dogs off the lead in residential areas/parks where children are playing. If you want to let your dog off the lead you should choose somewhere appropriate. So that would be:
Nowhere near anyone else's children unless they say it's OK (because your dog is not necessarily appealing to every small child - or adult for that matter)
Nowhere near farm livestock.
Your dog's crap should never be my problem and your dog should never invade my personal space unless I say it's OK.

And I have been around working dogs all my life. I love dogs (and cats) but some dog owners are just bloody useless.
I live in a very rural area and the number of people who insist on letting their dogs roam free near livestock, despite notices saying "Keep dogs on Lead", is unbelievable.
Do they not know that farmers have the right to shoot uncontrolled dogs when they find them on their land?
Apparently not. Apparently their dog "wouldn't hurt a fly".

I do not blame the dogs - many dog breeds really need to be working but have become fashion accessories. The owners are invariably half-wits who didn't think through the breed characteristics before they jumped in with both feet.

Sorry - I hi-jacked Blush.

So YANBU - if she's fit enough to walk a dog she should pick up it's shit.

PeeringIntoTheWintryVoid · 14/02/2011 22:40

YANBU - she should buy a long handled scooper.

Salmotrutta · 14/02/2011 22:42

Sorry - really didn't mean to go off on one!!

Blame one too many dogs peeing/crapping on/at our garden wall whilst owners are nowhere to be seen.

lesley33 · 14/02/2011 22:47

She may have been lying. But it is possible that she got the dog when she was in good health and now is not. I volunteer for Cinammon Trust that helps elderly and disabled people who have taken on dogs and cats when they are healthy and now need help to look after them.

Some might argue that even if you got a dog when you are healthy, that when you became less mobile you should get rid of your dog. But for some of the elderly people I have helped, their dog can be the only living thing they talk to for days.

If she genuinely couldn't bend down I think YABU. I know dog mess is horrible, but where is people's kindness? What about telling her where she could buy something that would help her to pick up dog mess?

Personalclown - Not being able to bend down and reach the floor is a very very common issue for elderly eople. That is wht devices are sold to help people put their socks opn as many people can't bend down enough to do this.

DuelingFanjo · 14/02/2011 22:49

was it a small dog? I wonder how she puts the lead on if it is?
