Not ruddy likely. Sack for using comp at work

I have read of several instances over the years of office workers being sacked for using the firms computer for private business.

One boss was said to have called a girl in and sacked her in front of all her mates.

I am out of office work now; so it makes me wonder what the rules are in respect of personal use of an office computer.

I suppose different firms have different rules and some have no rules at all. (Some may well even give permission for personal use in slack times.?)

I think this subject can be treated seriously for a while. Just educate on the question at issue. cheers "Gabby" ps BUT ONLY IF YOU HAVE PERMISSION WHEN AT WORKY, WORKY

The problem is Gabby that your posts never actually make much sense at all.

GabbyLoggon · 14/02/2011 16:28

Beatrice

ASTUTE...is for fibbing politicians. But we have all rumbled Cameron

So lets just be straight forward and not play "Big Society" games. Or even "sacking" games

Tell it how it is, to the best of our ability.

10 oclock ITV last night. I think the ex-One Show mans extreme rudeness is still very funny....But can he go any further than regular C word use.? I thought the Brown critics lady stole the show. (and still voted Labour)
For Big Society read CUTS no ifs and buts.

Cheers "Gabby"

Gabby

The problem is, people used to read what you wrote, but they have rumbled you.

Cheers "Beatrice"

Tical · 14/02/2011 16:36

Gabby, what are you on, mate?

FabbyChic · 14/02/2011 16:37

I don't think anybody should use a work computer for personal reasons.

You are there to work not piss about on websites/forums or to check your own mail, which you can do on a smartphone.

ShatnersBassoon · 14/02/2011 16:38

"Gabby", I always get an image of Ray Gosling in my head when I read your posts.

GabbyLoggon · 14/02/2011 16:50

Shatner is that because you are an embarrasse secret TORY? (Open up and tell us your Coalition secrets. )

Yes FAB, fair enought but what if your boss says you can use the computer in lunch breaks?

I am suprised nothing has come in on this from the horses mouth as it were (People who still do office work)

It may be sensitive; but we are all using confidential nicknames.

Is there a story for me the write about.?

The girl I mentioned was an ESSEX story.
She must have gone to the press. (The boss would not)

My crical one line posters may all be BOSSES
Nightmare on Mumsnet Lets whoop it up

I know two people sacked for alleged Internet misuse
both were just marched to their lockers and sent home the same day

GabbyLoggon · 14/02/2011 16:54

OP posts:
ShatnersBassoon · 14/02/2011 16:54

namechange100 · 14/02/2011 16:56

What a load of shite

FreudianSlippery · 14/02/2011 16:56

Did any of these people get sacked for posting random waffle? :)

namechange100 · 14/02/2011 16:57

I would have sacked them

namechange100 · 14/02/2011 16:58

Might still do just that

QOD · 14/02/2011 16:58

We aren't allowed to use the net for personal use, as we are at work....
ANy sites with shopping or social networking facilities are blocked.
We do often have the daily shite mail online up to read in between calls when we are bored

Doesn't bother me, work is work, home is my posting time/place

RoobyMurray · 14/02/2011 16:59

Gabby, what on earth are you going on about??

I think there might be some insults in there but I can't quite make them out from the complete and utter nonsense? Confused

HecateQueenOfWitches · 14/02/2011 17:00

If the company has a policy and you are aware of that policy and the consequences for ignoring that and you disregard it and choose to do it anyway and you are fired - tough shit. you knew the rules. You don't get to decide which of your employers policies you are going to adhere to and which you are not. If you think they are unlawful you challenge them in the proper way. If you choose to go your own sweet way and you get your P45, that's your own fault.

  • you does not mean you. It means someone, them, whoever.
getbacktowork · 14/02/2011 17:00

Hmmm

GabbyLoggon · 14/02/2011 17:10

Well ,the real ruby murray did not have much gravitas..... A bit more than you Mark 2 Ruby

Even shakesspeare could only write for people who can read. (Thats the deal we do)

come on Freud you ate said to be clever.
The Essex girl that was in the papers clearly got the sack (Geddit?)

Shatner? Tory Boss? it takes all sorts, thanks for the confession. But you could a Tory like Mr Speaker...(not a tory at all )

we have covered some ground. But not on the headline subject cheers "Gabby"
