Pondered on this; Still Don't Know

I have a village beauty salon where I've been going for about the last 8 years (next village but two).

Over the years I've progressed to more than the "normal" bikini wax; mainly due to horrendous flooding re the "change".

Anyway; pre-booked appointment at the salon for the usual, 5 weeks earlier.
Went in and it was a Mum from the school (not usual Woman).
Bit gob smacked. Transpired that the Mum had bought the salon the Monday previously, the previous owner had been having hip and knee problems; and had sold on the business.

Well I had a bit of a meltdown. I was just a bit . Shock.

I just didn't want to have a bikini with Her; because I "knew" Her. I have a lot of contact with her through the school.

Anyway I explained this and said I was a bit self conscious and not comfortable with it; would she mind if I cancelled and paid the fee.
I handed over £20 (charge was £17). She knocked my hand and the money went on the floor.
She said "Don't you think I'm as professional as you. Think I'll discuss your fanny at school. Think you have something worth talking about... I've seen it all"

Then she stormed into the back room saying (I think) "Don't let the door hit your fat arse on the way out".

She texted later, apologised.

I still can't decide if I'm being unreasonable; or if she was.

She was. How fucking rude.

peeriebear · 13/02/2011 13:27

You could have made up any reason at all for cancelling but you were honest with her- she was incredibly unprofessional and rude, especially as you paid anyway! YANBU.

nickytwotimes · 13/02/2011 13:27

She was out of order acting like that!

yanbu

booandbump · 13/02/2011 13:28

How fucking rude is she?

I can understand you being a bit embarrassed, I would be but there was no need for her reaction.

If she behaves like that I don't think her business will last long.

Think I would tell all my friends just how professional & pleasant she really is Wink

Spenguin · 13/02/2011 13:28

Bloody hell!

She was ridiculous.

I would never go back.

theagedparent · 13/02/2011 13:29

Yanbu. You have the right to change your mind whatever the reason and she sounds horrible and rude.

breathing · 13/02/2011 13:29

Its not like you ever suggested she would discuss you, just that it would be awkward speaking to her/socilaising after she has seen your intimates.

peeriebear · 13/02/2011 13:29

You know what they say, if somebody gets good service, they tell one friend but if they get bad service they tell ten.

If she hadnt behaved in the way she did I would have said you were being a bit unreasonable, but her attitude is not going to get her many customers. That was so rude!!

Spenguin · 13/02/2011 13:31
  1. Did she deliberately knock you hand?

  2. Can you give a bit more info as to what the text said?

  3. Have you replied yet? [I would let her sweat it out and, even then, not cut her any slack]

ZillionChocolate · 13/02/2011 13:32

She was being completely unreasonable, you weren't. You didn't suggest that she'd behave unprofessionally, you said you'd feel uncomfortable. I wouldn't like a bikini wax or cervical smear or anything in the knicker department from someone I already knew in another capacity. You might arguably have refused to pay given that at best you had entered into a contract with someone else, so I think paying the fee was decent in the circumstances. After her behaviour, I wouldn't go to her for anything.

Salmotrutta · 13/02/2011 13:33

Oh my goodness!
I'd have been as mortified as you if I'd been about to have an intimate procedure done and walked in to find someone I knew.

You were honest, polite, and more you paid anyway.

She sounds very rude - and must know it to have texted to apologise.
She will porobably now be worrying that you will tell others about how rude she was.

If small villages are involved she may find other Mums who feel as you do??

edam · 13/02/2011 13:34

Blimey. She was obviously extreme rude and stupid too - treating a customer badly is hardly good business.

Salmotrutta · 13/02/2011 13:35

what's more and probably - Sunday lazy fingers!!

SueWhite · 13/02/2011 13:36

Haha what a mad bitch. I would go round telling everyone.

FlamingoBingo · 13/02/2011 13:38

Clearly she is not 'as professional as you' if she can't understand professional boundaries. yadnbu

JemimaMuddleFuck · 13/02/2011 13:39

Dh said to me later that evening that I was probably not the first.
It's a small community and she paid good money for the "Goodwill". ie.Repeat customers.

I would imagine that most of the clientelle know her in a social capacity; and I don't think that's a good thing when you want a bikini wax.

I haven't said anything to anyone. I just wonder if I'm being precious and not according her a professional courtsey.

Spenguin · 13/02/2011 13:40

Maybe she's only apologising to save her newbusiness own skin.

mistressploppy · 13/02/2011 13:41

That's not really the point though! She totally overreacted! But if she apologised later I think she realised.....

Salmotrutta · 13/02/2011 13:45

Actually - from the other viewpoint - if I was a beautician, I'd be equally embarassed to do and intimate procedure on someone I knew!!
Same goes if I was a health care worker doing anything involving private bits! I wonder how often they find themselves in that position??

Salmotrutta · 13/02/2011 13:46

an - blimey, what's wrong with me today???

MCos · 13/02/2011 13:52

ha ha - sorry to laugh.

I wouldn't be comfortable with any of the moms from school working on my private bits either. Your response was honest and resonable. Her response was unbelievable!

Spenguin · 13/02/2011 13:53

Make the hubby go in there for a back, sack and crack!

Annpan88 · 13/02/2011 13:55

judging by her reaction you made the right choice, shes obviously not that professional
