I'm not veggie (luckily!) but just noticed this on the carton. Do all infant formulas contain fish oil? Bizarre

I think it can be difficult to see the alternative reasons. Like when someone sees a large child in a pushchair and assumes chavvy irresponsibility rather than being open to a disability/six-mile walk etc.

Soya milk for a baby with no issues would not be a great first choice, but for your son anything else would be lethal and I think it can be difficult to see others positions sometimes.
I've struggled with it since I've been on MN and hope I make less fuck-ups than I did when I first posted.

Leonie, altinkum's son is allergic to her breastmilk, whatever the cause of the allergy, he can't have it.

You are so fucking rude Leonie.

Are you qualified in anything relevant to the shite you are spouting?

pigletmania · 15/02/2011 18:08

Unfortunately not everyones tits work properly Smile so formula is an adequate substitute, of course its not as good as bm i am not saying that, but it serves a purpose, and did the job that I could not, to keep my dd nourished until she moved on from formula. As long as a baby is fed does not matter if it is bm or formula.

TimeWasting · 15/02/2011 18:08

Leonie, we've just been saying that. It's one thing to say it's the milk of last resort, it's another thing to say what you're saying here.
You're not helping to support breastfeeding with this approach.

You have to do whats right for you baby, and yes I have read that some babies are allergic to bm and have to use alternatives like altinkum, its a medical fact not fiction. If soya milk is what some babies need to keep them alive than so be it.

twirlymum · 15/02/2011 18:13

I also agree that Leonie is very rude and abrasive.

To make someone feel like shit when all they are doing is trying to feed their sick baby is appalling.

pigletmania · 15/02/2011 18:14

Erm in your point of view, if there is no bm available leonie than what else do you suggest! It is right as long as a baby is fed it does not matter at all, if bm is not available than formula. A mum should not feel guilty, there are plenty of very guilty mums here on MN who could not provide their baby with bm so had to resort to forumula, and unfortunately Leoni your views do not help.

pigletmania · 15/02/2011 18:16

It indeed help me to realise that my baby is fed and nourished so be it,

I left my guilt behind and moved on, but yes Leonies views do not help at all, especially a new mum reading this, who may be struggling with bf, and has mabey pnd, hormonal and struggeling with issues of guilt regarding not being able to feed their baby themselves.

TimeWasting · 15/02/2011 18:21

Keonie, I'm not sure what you're hoping to achieve here.

In and ideal world leoni but this is not always possible and yes parents do have to resort to formula. No not all children fed formula, are thick and sick that is a very narrow assumption.

Piglet: the milk of the human species is always preferred to feed a human baby, than highly processed and bacteria laden milk of another species, or worst of all, a plant with toxic conponents. Its this kind of statement that is not helpful at all and is not promoting bf. Leoni its good that you can and are able to bf but what if you could not. You sound very smug and self righteous, sorry you do
