To let my child eat fast food!

My daugter has a party this week and the mother has decided to get all the kids there amcdonalds happy meal.

All the other mums have agreed.

My daugter is just about to turn 2 and i think this is just unacceptable food fo a child that ytoung.

I wont let her be having it.

I dont feel like im being unreasonable.

Would you let yours? Even if it is just a one off?

It's not poison.

Have you seen what's actually in a Happy Meal?

bupcakesandcunting · 10/02/2011 14:00

I think you need to get a life.

AgentZigzag · 10/02/2011 14:01

Grin Don't be daft.

It won't poison her, and she's not going to eat that much anyway.

If you're that bothered, don't let her go.

Either that or you could send her along with an organic/handmade alternative?

Bubblerapped · 10/02/2011 14:01

Happy Meals are quite healthy, and even if they werent its a party.. all kids should be allowed to indulge at a party!!

YABU!

someonesgotthenameichose · 10/02/2011 14:01

yabu
its one meal!
you dont have to be buying any for her!

Itsjustafleshwound · 10/02/2011 14:02

Why is it unacceptable??

Like anything - if it is in moderation, she won't spontaneously combust because she has had a happy meal ..

Sorry, you are being a bit unhinged about it

ReturnOfTheBoomBap · 10/02/2011 14:02

I would et her have it as a one-off, yes. I'm not a huge fan of McD's meat but a few chips and some orange juice isn't going to kill her.

It's a birthday party and, to be honest, if you get sniffy about the food someone else is providing I think you are being a) precious and b) extremely rude.

ashamedandconfused · 10/02/2011 14:02

No at that age, i would not. It makes me sick to see people feeding babies & toddlers that stuff.

my almost 6yo DS has still never had a macdonalds or similar - fish and chips or pizza occasionally, yes, but no fast food burger type stuff - if he were invited to a good friends party i would let him go as a one off though

my 9 and 11 yos have each been once

thenightwalker · 10/02/2011 14:02

How can you say a happy meal is quite healthy!!

Its got salt covered fries and i know the nuggets are real chicken but they are covered in fatty batter!

OP posts:
2cats2many · 10/02/2011 14:03

I don't ever take my kids to McDonalds. It's shite and it's easier (and cheaper) to make a cheese sandwich.

However, if it was a one-off birthday party, I would just bite my tongue and let them eat it. It's just a one-off and half the fun of a party is eating crap food.

thenightwalker · 10/02/2011 14:03

im not going to stop her going i was just going to send her with her own dinner.

rosie1979 · 10/02/2011 14:03

LOL at bupcakes!

Its fish fingers,an orange juice and some chips - its not like shes going to be chowing down on a big mac! :)

LaurieFairyCake · 10/02/2011 14:03

Yes, you do realise its food don't you?

The only harm it will do her is that she might like it. And may want to go again.

bupcakesandcunting · 10/02/2011 14:03

It's NOT healthy, no.

But bigger picture here. It's a one-off. She an't going to grow three heads from just one McD's meal.

NonnoMum · 10/02/2011 14:04

The Happy Meal could consist of...

some fishfingers
a bag of carrot sticks
a carton of milk or fresh orange juice.

Worth making a huge fuss over?

bupcakesandcunting · 10/02/2011 14:04

You could always choose the carrot sticks for little Tabitha if you're so against her eating potatoes and a bit of vegetable oil. And salt.

AgentZigzag · 10/02/2011 14:04

mmmm fatty batter...

thenightwalker · 10/02/2011 14:06

I never actually thought about the fish fingers thing with carrot sticks. I supose i just assumed she would get her nuggets and chips. I didnt actually knowyou could get that there. Thanks nannomum ill just ask her to get that instead :D

Itsjustafleshwound · 10/02/2011 14:06

I'm loving the alternatives given to the happy meal ... some people have no idea ...

thenightwalker · 10/02/2011 14:06

tabitha?

OP posts:
TallulahDoesTheHula · 10/02/2011 14:06

has she ever eaten fish fingers at home?

because a happy meal at her age is likely to be

fishfingers
carrot sticks/apple sticks

milk/water

that sounds perfectly healthy as part of a balanced diet to me!

MommyMayhem · 10/02/2011 14:06

I think that would be very rude to send her with her own dinner. Very rude indeed. Either let her eat the McDonald's meal or don't let her go to the party.

LaurieFairyCake · 10/02/2011 14:06

You can't send her with her own food unless she has allergies.

It's extraordinarily rude to your host. Honestly if I saw you do that I wouldn't give a fuck about the food part but would be mortified at your rudeness.

If you're British, that sort of rudeness to host is just not done.

Bubblerapped · 10/02/2011 14:08

You are going to make yourself look a bit of an over-protective paranoid parent if you send her with her own food, as well as make your child feel an outcast too. All the other kids will be enjoying a treat, yours is made to look different because she isnt allowed to join in.

And there you start with making your child into a picky eater or feeling left out or unusual.

Get over yourself and allow your child to enjoy herself instead of being so precious.
