Blush

I'm on the last stretch of 4 years of studying at home, I'm stressed and I'm tired. This morning my battered and bruised laptop finally succumbed and is no more. Sad

I sobbed and keened as if someone had died. Blush Blush Blush

The fact that I have no money to replace it is making me cry some more. Bur seriously, its a ridiculous over-reaction isn't it?

I don't know... straws and camel's backs and all that, eh? Having once completely lost it because I accidentally tipped a bag of frozen peas all over the floor, I think it doesn't take much to put you over the edge if you're already a bit stressed. Hope you get the laptop fixed soon

Um, I probably would too!

But last week I literally sobbed over a bit of spilt milk! It had just been one if those weeks

YANBU

nubbins · 10/02/2011 11:28

well I sobbed when my laptop died, it had a very long drawnout demise.

I hope you didn't lose any work.

fingerpaints · 10/02/2011 11:32

YANBU it's not a ridiculous overreaction becuase it's really a reaction to all the stress and work you've been through! If you have important docs on there that you need for your course there are some wonderful tech services that can work miracles retrieving lost files/info from seemingly dead machines. If you live in London Tottenham Court Rd has tons of these shops.

Good luck!

BuzzLiteBeer · 10/02/2011 11:34

only a little, most of it should be hopefully backed up elsewhere.

I don't think its fixable. But a new one is so expensive, I just don't have it. I'm looking at netbooks as they are a bit cheaper, but still more than I have to spare which is nothing Sad

OP posts:
TotemPole · 10/02/2011 11:40

What's wrong with it?

nomoreheels · 10/02/2011 11:44

Interest free loan from family? Or buy one on a 0% credit card purchase deal & pay it off over the zero rate period?

I don't nomally suggest additional debt, but if you really need one... And I'm sure I've seen pc laptops going for around £350, so it's not the worst figure to pay off.

ChickensHaveNoEyebrows · 10/02/2011 11:44

YANBU. That is shit. Can you beg/borrow one? Can you rent laptops? Now, slap yourself about the head and get back to being superwoman

bupcakesandcunting · 10/02/2011 11:45

Buzz, I may be able to help.

My mum's friend works in IT and every twelve months his company disposes of their laptops. He reconditions them and sells them on for peanuts. My mum just got one for £20. It won't be a state of the art thing but fine for surfing/working.

bupcakesandcunting · 10/02/2011 11:45

Reading that back it sounds like code for saying "my mum's mate nicks laptops."

He doesn't Grin

ChickensHaveNoEyebrows · 10/02/2011 11:46

Yeah, suuuure Bup

bupcakesandcunting · 10/02/2011 11:47

'Ere, Chickens. Do you have any need for twenty Nokia mobile phones? All undamaged, without original packaging? PM me.

TotemPole · 10/02/2011 11:48

The netbooks I looked at didn't have a built in CD/DVD drive, so by the time you've bought an external one, it could work out cheaper going for a cheapo lappy.

FabbyChic · 10/02/2011 11:49

Netbooks are harder to use if you use it all the time, I sold mine because the screen was tiny.

Can you afford a second hand machine from eBay?

You can pick up one for around a ton if you can.

BuzzLiteBeer · 10/02/2011 11:51

Human side? Nooo! Its just the er, emotional robot bit?

Bupcakes I'm in Ireland, where everything costs twice as much! Does he do international post? I'll pay!! Wink

I do have a little money in a savings account but there is a penalty for withdrawing early, and its my hard scraped fees for next years post-grad, so I'm loathe to break into it.

I think I'm moving on from Sad to Angry I feel like throwing things!

bupcakesandcunting · 10/02/2011 11:53

I will text my mum now and get her to text Del Boy her mate. If he has got one going, I'll buy it for you, post it on and you can pay me back by PayPal? Let me find out first as it could end up only costing you £40 ish rather than buying off some dodge merchant off eBay...

bupcakesandcunting · 10/02/2011 11:53

Can you use a library PC until you get another? My uni used to loan lappys out too?

BuzzLiteBeer · 10/02/2011 11:55

I have paypal and can pay you before its posted. Chickens can vouch for me, can't you (nudge nudge, Wink Wink)?

Blondeshavemorefun · 10/02/2011 11:55

my lappy got a very sore tummy ache :( and i put an a query on my local netmums noticeboard asking if anyone knew of someone local who could mend laptops and within a few hours i had several replies saying their dh did this

worth a shot

or maybe take to pc world and see what they say?

bupcakesandcunting - i could be seriously interested in having an old laptop for £20 - will mess you :)

BuzzLiteBeer · 10/02/2011 11:56

I'm on my kindle right now but might be able to borrow one from a mater for a bit. My DH has a crappy auld one but it has no keyboard and shuts itself off if you do anything it doesn't like. Like look at the screen. Hmm !

ChickensHaveNoEyebrows · 10/02/2011 11:56

I can bup. Buzz is a real life person with a weakness for odd beers and drunken staggering.

BuzzLiteBeer · 10/02/2011 11:57

and attempting to get husbands drunk. Blush

OP posts:
AGwantsababy · 10/02/2011 11:58

I'd be devastated if my laptop died...I don't think it's an over-reaction.

Not that I spend all my time on it and take it almost everywhere...me...no...

Hope you get something sorted

ChickensHaveNoEyebrows · 10/02/2011 11:58

Other people's husbands drunk
