to be very surprised and quite pleased at DD's revulsion when faced with her first 'Happy Meal"?

we were late leaving PIL's house yesterday after FIl's birthday party, it's a long journey and the DC (3.2 and 20 months) were starving. So, we ended up having to stop by the motorway at a Burger King for dinner.

I try to avoid feeding them crap (but am also not a handwoven organic lentil burger monger) but TBH I though they'd love it.

So, we got two childrens' meals for the DC and something for ourselves and sat down to eat. DC looked thrilled at the novelty.

After happily munching away at the chips for a bit DD had a bite of her burger whist DS studiously ignored his chicken nuggets after a having a little nibble. She chewed a bit and then wretched, I thought she'd swallowed it but a couple of minutes later she asked to spit it out. Poor little sausage really couldn't eat it, said it was revolting.

Now, she's 3, so she can pull some tricks when faced with new foods. The rule is that she has to try new stuff but doesn't have to eat more than a 'try'. But, this was definitely a genuine reaction and one she's never has to anything before, I was really quite surprised.

A couple of minutes I may (rather evilly) have said 'Mmm, DD, this is Macdonalds, it's not very nice, is it?'.

So, AIBU to be pleased at how revolting she found it. I obviously didn't make a big thing of it, just took the offending object away and said that everyone has things they really don't like and it doesn't matter.

nOT Unreasonable but a bit smug

Fimbo · 07/02/2011 10:08

Oh fgs and were you in McDonalds or BK?

McSmuggery at its best Biscuit

southeastastra · 07/02/2011 10:09

jeysus are you that bored that you had to post that smugfest

this site is becoming so mundane these days

mrsgetonwithit · 07/02/2011 10:09

So she don't like burgers........hold the front page.

HettyAmaretti · 07/02/2011 10:10

Burger King, just said McDonalads.

Hands up to McSmuggery, I'm certainly guilty of that. I did think they'd love it though, hence the surprise.

But it wasn't McDonalds it was Burgerking! there is a difference. McDonalds happy meals burgers are all soft and delicious, BK are nasty and dry.

I guess it's a matter of preference; my childen adore McDonalds and I adore not having to cook dinner on a Friday every now and again. Smile

HettyAmaretti · 07/02/2011 10:11

She usually loves burgers.

bamboobutton · 07/02/2011 10:11

well whoop-de-doo!

ds gags on plenty of foods (inc Mc D's) and i have never felt the need to tell anyone on here about it.

Hangingbellyofbabylon · 07/02/2011 10:12

also motorway Burger kings are notoriously the worst out there - not a level playing field. If you is gonna dis da McDo, you gotta be eatin' the McDo.

porcamiseria · 07/02/2011 10:12

smugfest!!! too true !

BornToFolk · 07/02/2011 10:13

"everyone has things they really don't like and it doesn't matter."

Quite.

BaroqueAroundTheClock · 07/02/2011 10:13

well that's where you went wrong BK burgers and kids meals are shite

(they do, IMO, have better chips though)

Fimbo · 07/02/2011 10:13

Withdraws Biscuit for a moment.

Ah BK that's where you went wrong. Next time find a McD's. She will be pleading with you for more.

As you were.

HettyAmaretti · 07/02/2011 10:14

yy, already admitted smugness on this one. After endless PND it's actually very, very nice to feel a tiny bit smug. Not an emotion I'm familiar with Smile

OP posts:
BaroqueAroundTheClock · 07/02/2011 10:14

oh god yes - just realised it was a Motorway BK - hahaha - yes they're worse than the regular ones

Fimbo · 07/02/2011 10:15

Wtf has pnd got to do with a Happy Meal - here have a few of these Wine Wine Wine [win]

mutznutz · 07/02/2011 10:16

Take the slice of pickle out next time....

Are you going to be this delighted and start a thread if your kids don't like a certain kind of sweet/biscuit/cake?

I just don't understand the point in this?

shesparkles · 07/02/2011 10:16

I think I'd be feeling a bit smug too-I was really annoyed when a neighbour introduced dd to McCrap's when she was about 3

Mahraih · 07/02/2011 10:16

BK do indeed have better chips - in all other ways inferior to McD's however.

When DS is born (if he ever is at this rate), I shall expect him to like McDonalds and if he doesn't, will probably worry slightly about what I've raised ... Wink all the while lecturing him about the evils of transfats.

CarolinaRua · 07/02/2011 10:18

Yawn - my childrens taste buds are so evolved that they just couldnt stomach a Mc'D's.

Once in a while MacDonalds is great, although my DD will only eat the chips and a milkshake, which to be fair I am partial to myself

HettyAmaretti · 07/02/2011 10:18

Oh, right, is there really such a big difference between macdonalds and burger king? I assumed they were more or less identical.

lol, Fimbo, no link at all. Previous lack of PFB smugness and PND are linked, I assume.

BaroqueAroundTheClock · 07/02/2011 10:19

Thing is - if you made your own organic, lentil weaved chicken nuggets and burgers at home. Cooked them now, and then left them in the warmer for a few hours so they're nice and dry..........well your DD would probably be repulsed too.

But yes - as Mutz said - it'll be the pickles as well I bet - vile vile vile things.

mutznutz · 07/02/2011 10:20

Also...is there anyone on this thread (or on MN in general) who has kids who stick with the same likes and dislikes?

My 8yr old loved toad in the hole 3 weeks ago. I cooked it on Saturday and suddenly he hates it.

OP, hold the smugness until your kid's can go a month without changing their minds about what they do and don't like to eat Wink

Shimmerysilverglitter · 07/02/2011 10:21

So what? Here try her with this Biscuit. It is my first ever so I hope she enjoys it, but do please come back and let us all know won't you.

prettymuchapixiegirl · 07/02/2011 10:22
