What's on top of your fridge?

What colour is your hall painted? Or is it papered?

What about your DC rooms? How old are your DC and what style is their room?

How about YOUR bedroom? Your sitting room?

Me.

On top of my fridge is a collection of random crap including 2 "grow your own crystal" sets an od biscuit tin and a milk jug full of pennies...plus various detrius.

Hall walls are filthy a sort of cream colour.

Kids bedrooms stomach churning pink...one with hearts everywhere and the other slightly less offensive flowers.

Our bedroom is white and blue...boring.

Sitting room is kind of "Ikea meets Bernard Manning"....pared down and yet deeply ugly in all ways.

OP posts:
ChippyMinton · 05/02/2011 18:42

What's on top of your fridge? A stack of cake tins full of crackers, sweeties, and er, cake.

What colour is your hall painted? Or is it papered? It's white painted woodchip paper, urgh.

What about your DC rooms? How old are your DC and what style is their room? DC1 & 2 - white walls, blue carpet, blue checked curtains. Disclaimer: the carpet is not visible beneath the lego etc. DD - white & pink flowery walls, pink gingham curtains, white iron bed etc., a girl's delight. She wants it blue. Grr.

How about YOUR bedroom? In the midst of renovation, undecided on decor, but probably off-white and pale green.
Your sitting room? Ditto, will be off-white with oak floor.

taffetasplat · 05/02/2011 18:46

op - you're not sounding like you love your home

Nothing on top of fridge - built in
Hall painted white
DS (7) room pale blue, bright turquoise built in cupbaords on one wall, giant Captain America mural/wallpaper on another wall. Grey carpet, desk.
DD (4) pale pink walls, one big wall photo mural/wallpaper of flower meadow. Grey carpet, desk.
Our room is pale blue and teal, and is covered in clothes atm as DH is making a walk in wardrobe. This has been going on for 6 months, so far.
Living area has white walls, grey sofas, wood floors, grey shaggy rug, elm coffee table, bookcases, all the usual.

Need some paintings/photos up on the walls.

Malificence · 05/02/2011 18:48

A footspa and DH's baking books.

Hall/stairs is papered and a subtle yellow/gold with a wooden floor.

DD's room is bright yellow with orange curtains with zillions of teddies and utter crap everywhere on shelves.

Spare (computer) room is cream and gold paper with a built in cabin bed and dark green and gold cutains.

Our room is painted a clotted cream colour (it used to be deep, dark red) with light oak built in wardrobes and bedside drawers, we have deep terracotta winter curtains and cream/gold summer curtains, huge mirror on the wall and lots of Japanese style pictures that we've had for over 25 years and have been everywhere with us.

Living room is eclectic - golden yellow wallpaper ( I think we have a liking for yellow Wink ) dark terracotta curtains, old-gold with aztec/diamond patterned carpet, 2 cognac leather sofas , light oak tv unit, bookcase and dining table and 2 tall all glass cabinets filled with sci-fi models on either side of the fireplace, they are now spilling out and we have 2 enormous Star trek models on the tops of them.

We need a new carpet and curtains for the living room to go with our new sofas but I can't find anything I like.

LadyOfTheManor · 05/02/2011 18:48

How about YOUR bedroom? cream walls, oak flooring, XL king size sleigh bed, pine and canvas furnishings

barteringlines · 05/02/2011 18:52

What colour is your hall painted? Or is it papered? Cream

What about your DC rooms? How old are your DC and what style is their room? DD's (age 3) room is painted white with a blue carpet and Peppa Pig and In The Night Garden accesories. DS is still in our room - he's 1.

IfAtFirstUDontSucceed · 05/02/2011 18:52
  1. 4 Bottles of sparkling water, a loaf of bread and some cube shaped glass vases left over from our wedding (over 4 years agoBlush) 2) We're living in rented accom at the mo' so boring neutral cream throughout! 3)Have no DCs yet, but DH's boys room is plain & boring (see above) but is filled with computers/stereos/decks/CD's & vinyl - I try not to ventre in there much! 4) our bedroom is once again plain & cream but we have some gorgeous, plush curtains.Living room is pretty much the same. GOD - I so wish we could decorate our house!!!!
Malificence · 05/02/2011 18:57

I might as well add the bathroom and kitchen.

Bathroom is very neutral, bamboo coloured door and paintwork, pebble effect wall paper, clay marbley-coloured tiles, white suite with chrome fittings, glass/chrome shelf and mirror, silver and white curtains and toilet seat, quite minimalist.

Kitchen has pale wood effect lino, it was very expensive but has been down for 10+ years and still cleans up like new, cream glossy units/cupboards / terracotta marbled work surfaces and white ceramic sink, terracotta and dark green tile border under the window. Dark green range style cooker. Bamboo fabric effect wallpaper. Terracotta blind that was £10 reduced from £70.

aPixie · 05/02/2011 19:01

Well, we're actually using this place as a stop gap to our "proper" home so I'll do a now and what it will be Grin

Top of fridge:

Now: I tub full of pens and an old pampers wipes box full of coppers.

Future: Nothing.

Hall:

Now: Magnolia Walls, Cream carpet.

Future: Beige Walls, Slate Tiles on Floor.

Ds's Room:

Now: Magnolia Walls, Cream Carpet, multi blue wardrobe and drawers.

Future: One wallpapered main wall (White background, multi pastel coloured spots) other Walls Aqua, woodwork pale blue, carpet to match woodwork, White furniture.

Ds is 21months at the moment but his future bedroom will be decorated like his old "nursery". It was gorgeous and something that would grow with him as not to babyish.

Our Bedroom:

Now: Magnolia Walls, Cream Carpet, Mattress on floor, crappy dark wood furniture.

Future: Very Dark Purple Walls, Black Woodwork, not sure about flooring. Big hand carved wooden 4 poster bed, black mirrored glass furniture with built in wardrobes if possible. NO CHILDREN ALLOWED.

Have I though about this too much? I seriously can't wait to get out of this place. Grin

hurricanewyn · 05/02/2011 19:04

What's on top of your fridge? Cereal Boxes

What colour is your hall painted? Or is it papered? Old house and walls are a bit bumpy, so are papered with textured wallpaper to disguise this. When we moved in, it was my first home and I was a bit afraid of colour so everywhere downstairs is white, but am going to slowly introduce colour

What about your DC rooms? DS has orange walls and blue skirting boards and doors. Sounds vile but is actually lovely and so cheery. DD has pastel pink walls and lilac woodwork. Much less pleasing but she loves it.

How old are your DC DS is eight and DD is seven

what style is their room? Messy

How about YOUR bedroom? White, with exposed floorboards, white rugs and cream and browns accents. I love it.

Your sitting room? White again, with 2 blue feature walls and a blue sofa. The blue walls are a recent feature as part of my attempt to introduce colour

nemofish · 05/02/2011 19:08

On top of fridge - lots of cardboard boxes and envelopes from ebay that Dh insists will one day Come In Useful Hmm

Hall is painted light yellow

Dd's room is blue and green with green and pink curtains. She has a blue bed and dinosaur related bedding.

Our bedroom - has not been decorated in about 13 years. It still displays the god awful taste of dh's ex girlfriend

Blue (Ice blue!) and some 90's patterned diamond shaped wallpaper. yack. Just yack. Dirt brown carpet that may well ahve orignally been a different colour for all I know. Grin

We will be redecorating this year, living room and our bedroom, I hereby swear a blood oath...

aPixie · 05/02/2011 19:10

Oh,

Sitting Room:

Now: Magnolia Walls, cream carpet, brown L shaped sofa, cream and red curtains, red floor lamp, oak cabinet with flat screen tv on top, cheap crappy dining room table and 4 chairs.

Future: not sure about decor but black leather L shaped sofa, oak cabinet (as above) tv on wall above cabinet so away from sticky little fingers, bookcase somewhere for all my books, wooden blinds.

GloriaSmut · 05/02/2011 19:10

Usually nothing on top of the fridge, currently the last of the Christmas chocolates that I'm waiting for dp to finish off.

Hallway is white, painted (only have upper hallway due to design of rambling, old house)

DC so old that they have their own bedrooms in their own houses. One of their former bedrooms are now my workroom (glorious redcurrent coloured paint on two walls, remainder white (used a photographic studio). Another of their bedrooms is now DP's shytehole study with painted olive green walls and white ceiling.

Our bedroom is blissfully huge and (finally) uncluttered. It has windows on two walls and an uninterrupted view across miles of countryside. One wall painted a soft blue, the others "Egyptian Cotton". Furniture minimal, Habitat bed, two double IKEA wooden wardrobes and matching six drawer chest plus large, birch, blanket box.

We've got two sitting rooms. Both are painted. One in olive green and white, the other in a really soft green. We have a handbuilt solid wood staircase along one wall in middle sitting room and a v.nice wood, slate and cast iron fireplace. Furniture mainly IKEA include big orange corner unit. Other sitting room has large wood sofa and chairs with dark green upholstery that came from Toucan and were imported from somewhere in South America.

I like it. But it took a lot of money to get the place to its current state of really rather niceness!

Peachy · 05/02/2011 19:12

What's on top of your fridge?
Random stuff, most of which nobody would recognise- light fittings, tools (podger anyone?), bits of paperwork needinga ddressing.

What colour is your hall painted? Or is it papered? Magnolia. Bleurgh.

What about your DC rooms? How old are your DC and what style is their room?
Ds1- very small room, 11, teal with lime duvet. DS2- pale green, no real theme or coour coordination as yet: silvery green curtains, may get permission to install silvery carpet as existing one damaged
DS3- currently on sof bed in playroom until we can find cash to convert. DS4- in with us. Pach walls and bright ornage carpet; nice.
How about YOUR bedroom? As before- peachy.
Your sitting room? Like it a lot; new bisvuit coloured carpet, magnolia walls but chocolate chimney breast; wine old leather sofa and wine / biscuit / chocolate striped newer one. Wine and cream curtains, two paiitngs we bought yeras ago which are both dark reddish tones in gold / choclotae frames.

Sounds awful no? but it's not; it's just a very old rented cottage that we updare a little for the landlords each year but hasn't had real work apart from kitchen since seventies.

NinkyNonker · 05/02/2011 19:13

Fridge: a tray drying some chopped chilies. Fridge is in understairs cupboard (stairs off kitchen) so gets slightly warmer in there.

Hall: oatmeal and cream. From previous owners.

Living room: currently cream with deep burgundy fireplace and alcoves. Soon to be lighter, no red. Woodburner, wooden floors, one battered leather sofA and one fabric one. Antique armchair that is a funny shape bought at auction on a whim cause I love it. Bookcase, lots of books, no dvds, a barograph, lots of paintings and pictures, stereo. All a bit undesigned, soon to be spruced up. Very personal and homely though.

Kitchen: flagstones, light blue and cream walls, cream units. Big dresser a bit overloaded. Hanging pan rail. Well used!

Dining room in conservatory.

Our room: big, cream on 3 walls. Lichen green on other. (Nicer than it sounds!) Iron open fireplace (I think, is black and original.) Oak king-size bed for super tall dh, oak tall chest of drawers. Hanging rail with hairdryer, jewellery etc. Currently also a cot, assorted baby toys, monitor etc!

Other room, very light blue, changing table, shelving unit, chair, playmat etc. Will be nurse when we're ready to.move her!

oldraver · 05/02/2011 19:14

Built in Fridge, but on top of the unit I chuck spare foil etc

Hall painted 12 years ago in Natural Straw.. really needs redoing

DS'1 (24) room, painted mid-blue (his choice), vinyl flooring that looks like laminate (much much nicer and comfy as its a good quality one), mock leather bed (his choice) built in wardrobes. En-Suite with pebbles flooring (disappointed with this now)

DS2's (5) room. Turquoise walls, orange carpet, white furniture (from when it was a spare room) colours picked from his Boots Tall and Tiny border and bedding/curtains and he has some other bits mixed in from other 'animal' ranges

My room.. yellow walls and mixed white yellow bedding quite a decent sized room with en-suite and built in wardrobes. Its in the loft with a sticky out window (can thtink of name at the mo) so I love the different shapes in there

Sitting Room.. Glass panelled French Doors off hall and also painted in Straw so when the doors are open (which is most of the time they look 'together'. Room could be better planned and I wish I had chosen house now with the sitting room planned the other way round

mitochondria · 05/02/2011 19:15

clam · 05/02/2011 19:16

Built-in fridge, but shelf above with cookery books. (note to self: needs tidying!)
Hall: soft cream (must paint over scuff marks on wall by door. WHO MAKES THESE??)
DS (14) beige walls + one navy blue, with maple furniture and chrome bits
DD (12) v. pale pinky-white, with one wall shocking sexy pink. Pink/purple bedding. White IKEA day bed and matching furniture. Chiffon drapes in purpley pink.
Our bedroom: dark green bedding, cream walls, one mocha. Lightwood furniture.
Sitting room: very pale green, cream and beige. Maple furniture. Needs re-doing.

Visitors say, "this is lovely!"
I say, "it's a scruffy mess and I need to start again."

rasta · 05/02/2011 19:17

What's on top of your fridge?

DCs art stuff/paints/glue. Also a box of broken toys that DH will supposedly fix one day.

What colour is your hall painted? Or is it papered?

We don't have a hall. Open the front door and you're straight into the main room.

What about your DC rooms? How old are your DC and what style is their room?

DDs (3 and 5) share a room. Painted yellow, no theme. 2 beds, wardrobe and draws. DC3 will be sharing with them too after it's born.

How about YOUR bedroom?

Blue (previous owners Blush ) Wardrobe, bed, DHs computer. Dire need of a new carpet.

Your sitting room?

Open plan with the kitchen. Sofa, fire, white walls. Nothing exciting really!

Pheebe · 05/02/2011 19:18

This is fab. I can picture the 'names' I know actually in their homes now...bit weird...you all must be real then??!!

NinkyNonker · 05/02/2011 19:20

Oh yes, very coil, very old floorboards in our room.

Litchick · 05/02/2011 19:21

On top of the Fridge - It's built in so a high cupboard that houses a juicer, a tin opener, a bean grinder, a liquidiser etc.

Hall - cream with floor to ceiling photographs.

Flisspaps · 05/02/2011 19:22

What's on top of your fridge? Grease, two trays, two cool bags

What colour is your hall painted? Or is it papered? It's a mushroomy brown, not quite magnolia. I hate it. It desperately needs repainting but we never get round to it

Your sitting room? Magnolia with red chimney breasts. Cream carpet. Red rug. Two black leather sofas, the comfiest sofas I have ever sat on.

mrsunreasonable · 05/02/2011 19:30

What's on top of your fridge?

Clothes pegs and fireworks

What colour is your hall painted? Or is it papered?

Hall painted a kind of light brown colour reminds me of the colour of a room thats just been plastered but not painted which makes me wonder why they bothered (only moved in a year ao not got round to painting it yet!)

What about your DC rooms? How old are your DC and what style is their room?

DS1(3) has blue carpet, white walls with blue shelves a noahs ark book case and an ikea toy box with multi coloured draws, and an entire wall of floor to ceiling (and we have v. high ceilings) built in dark wood wardrobes very imposing but can't really do anything about them.
