to wonder what people are planning for valentines (and to rob ideas)

Im thinking going to La Tasca (16.00 3 course and glass of wine. bargain) then do something fun like bowling or crazy golf.

Feck all, like usual. And I don't care!

AlabasterQueen · 04/02/2011 14:14

Valentines Day is a commercialized day - nothing else! Don't buy into the romantic crap - there is nothing romantic about February 14th. It's just a normal day.

gordyslovesheep · 04/02/2011 14:16

I certainly don;t like DV Wink not a nice gift for such a romantic day Grin

Quenelle · 04/02/2011 14:21

meantosay It's doubtful, he agreed too readily. But that would be romantic.

MrsRichardHammond · 04/02/2011 14:24

Fuck all never have never will

HavingAnOffDAy · 04/02/2011 14:26

MrSpoc

Romantic gestures should be spontaneous and surprising. Nothing you do on Valentine's day will be that. Sorry.

LisaD1 · 04/02/2011 14:37

WE don't usually bother anyway but this year we couldn't even if we wanted to... because the school have decided the 14th is a great day for Parent's evening, my slot starts at 8pm and we have 8 teachers to see!

I bet the teachers are delighted too!

QueenStromba · 04/02/2011 14:53

We're not going to celebrate Valentines Day due to crass over-commercialisation. We are considering celebrating steak and blowjob day on the 14th of March though :)

MrSpoc · 04/02/2011 15:43

QueenStromba - I like the steak and blow job day on 14th March. this should become national. The only problam is my wife and if i try to do it to myself i bet i'd put my back out.

I've just finished writing a vally day feature so here are some suggestions. Bear in mind they're all london based but might give you some ideas anyway.

Restaurants which 'do' romantic:
Poule Au Pot
Clos maggiore
1 Lombard St
Andrew Edmunds

Chocolate tasting classes at La Maison du Chocolat. they also teach you how to make chocolates. Very cool.

Kew Gardens is having a special Valentine's Dinner inside their annual Tropical Extravaganza show - drink champers surrounded by thousands of orchids. VERY cool. If DH and I didn't stay in on Vally day this is what I would want to do.

Take her to the new exhibit Sexual Nature at Natural History Museum. It's eye-opening (or eye-watering)...

Royal Albert Hall has a special jazz vally evening.

Royal Observatory has evening star-gazing sessions through their famous telescope, with a glass of bubbly and a red rose. Also VERY cool.

Special champers flights on the London Eye.

HTH

nickelthenaughtybutnicefairy · 05/02/2011 17:37

Jsut remembered what DH did for me last Valentine's Day!

hope it helps, Mr spoc!
Grin

He learned a brand new organ piece just for me and played it at that Sunday's service.
It was very pretty, and not at all twee.

Grin

(not saying you should learn the organ, but my point is that he put his talent into making something especially for me- that's where the romance lies)

Lizcat · 05/02/2011 17:40

In the horse trading of night working I lost out on Valentines night to acieve wedding anniversary and DHs birthday off.

cookingfat · 05/02/2011 17:47

Will be at home with a new baby, or being induced, or in labour. Either way, won't be going out for dinner. Better get a present though Grin.

WillieWaggledagger · 05/02/2011 17:48

no never never go out on valentine's any more. I have worked it as a waitress, was grim

nice meal in, wine, lovely

WimpleOfTheBallet · 05/02/2011 17:49

We don't go out either....we don't often go out for dinner and don't want to make it all "Important" when we do...itms?

Newgolddream · 05/02/2011 18:00

Sadly I will be in the house trying but failing not to think of my Mum who died on Valentines Day. Not that that matters of course - its just another day without her - but its hard in the lead surrounded by all the cheesy tat in the shops.Sad

As to romantic tips? Well the smallest gestures can be romantic, as long as they are spontatneous and personal to your partner. My DH made a CD up for me once, completely out of the blue with all my favourite songs on it because he knew I still hadnt figured out how to burn songs from the computer lol.

Asteria · 05/02/2011 18:14

I will be sitting on the shelf getting dusty on Valentines Day - if I'm feeling really generous I mught treat myself to some new batteries and a bar of chocolate to go with the obligatory Wine

nickelthenaughtybutnicefairy · 05/02/2011 18:19

Newgolddream - you should do something special on Valentine's that reminds you of your mum - spend the day/evening doing something she would have loved doing. :)

UnquietDad · 05/02/2011 18:20

DW and I don't bother with it, because we'd rather celebrate our own anniversary, which is more meaningful to us. Neither of us especially likes the idea of buying an "I Love You" card because of a particular day where you are expected to.

And if you want to go further you can go for the right old misery-guts option

... not so much for her attitude to V-Day, but more for her general anti-relationship stuff in general. Some of the comments are very amusing.

AtYourCervix · 05/02/2011 18:25

I'm working but am giving DH a voucher so we can go to a spa and have a 'couples massage' Hmm Blush Confused the week after.

ChippyMinton · 05/02/2011 18:29

DH is going to watch the football. I shall be here with the DC revelling in a night in on my own. Did I see a wine glass somewhere? Wine perfect.

Then we will celebrate our anniversary a few days later with some bargain-priced valentines leftovers.

cocoachannel · 05/02/2011 18:34

DH is playing football. I will be watching One Born Every Minute (from behind the sofa as expecting DC1 this month but can't stop myself tuning in).

Kenobi- 'vally day'? That's a new one on me!
