20k would make life much nicer.

a nice car.

a nice holiday

pay some bills

a couple in the bank for a rainy day.

It doesn't seem a huge amount, or excessively greedy.

AIBU? or greedy?

It would take me ages to write a book. Id need lots of literature searches and stuff.

AtYourCervix · 03/02/2011 22:26

i'm thinking i could be the Enid Blyton of the new millenia. not much effort. shite storylines. very lucrative.

i'd rathe be the next agatha christie or jane austen but i'm too fick for that.

That was a busy period when the twins were little and they woke around 7. I'm not saying it's always fun to work difficult hours but it seems for most people that do to pay off. I was also at that point doing work at home during those hours.

Also most children have two parents. We used to split weekends - one of us had them on Saturdays whilst the other worked and vice versa when the other did. It worked very well - it's a good plan if you don't get on with your spouse - see there's a gain in everything, even that. Laughing. I must get to bed.

Put about 7K in Altona Energy, wait about 6-18 months. Job's a goodun.

steppemum · 03/02/2011 22:26

I can't believe that blog. She can't bear the thought of not being debt free until horrible old age of 36!!!!!!!!!!!!!

windynight · 03/02/2011 22:28

what kind of books?

awubble · 03/02/2011 22:31

Don't you dare insult dear Enid like that ! You have no idea of the talent of that woman!

Seriously, her manuscripts rarely needed the slightest editing. Not a spelling or punctuation error in a whole manuscript!

Try writing for the Guardian, any old BA with a socialist leaning can get in there.

AtYourCervix · 03/02/2011 22:34

am going to sleep. i expectinspiration to hit me at around 3am. either that or i'll just pop my bank and sort code here and leave it all up to you.

OP: Don't we all?

LadyOfTheManor · 03/02/2011 22:36

I write, and make money from it. A few novels (one being edited as I type) and a load of freelance, get yourself a Writers & Artists' Yearbook and get hold of some publications.

amarone · 03/02/2011 22:39

Xenia wrote 30 books; none of them were published.

Cristiane · 03/02/2011 22:41

Short stories? Very short stories? Grin

windynight · 03/02/2011 22:44

I edited a book once

all good except my name was spelt incorrectly

Mists · 03/02/2011 23:31

Don't take the piss, Xenia's books are priced from £95 on Amazon. Boring but lucrative law stuff.

Nice to see a light-hearted post from you by the way Xenia.

That'll be £20 grand please Grin

retiredgoth2 · 03/02/2011 23:34

Sadly, I don't think that 20k would come close to achieving your fairly modest list....

Sad but true...

granted · 03/02/2011 23:41

Wow, Xenia, some of your posts can come across as vbit toffee-nosed, but the ones on here are positively inspiring! Well done to you, and I may take your advice, as likewise I could really, really do with 20 grand.Smile

MadameDefarge · 03/02/2011 23:46

Well, I need £3K ish to pay ds school fees )( know I know, but its to do with with SN) and his pa has reneged.

softglowsandmaybes · 03/02/2011 23:50

I could do with a lump sum too. The question ladiees, is what would we do to get it??

Al1son · 04/02/2011 00:02

Shall we rob a bank?

I'd love to wake up one day and not have that sinking feeling when I remember how far in the shit we are financially.

MadameDefarge · 04/02/2011 00:03

Ooh! An MN heist! Could call it the Boden Job.....

though running away from the plod could be tricky in heels...

AtYourCervix · 04/02/2011 08:12

hmmmmm. inspiaratiion not forthcoming from dreams. will put my body on ebay and waqit for the bids to roll in.

my 20k breaks down thus...

£12,000 on a car that works.
£3,000 on fabulaous holida
£3,000 for bills
£2,000 to save.

another 20 k would be nice for the DDs univversity funds but i can do that next year.

Xenia · 04/02/2011 08:36

By the way I asn't suggesting there was a huge amount of profit in the books I've written but you just keep at it in terms of ways to earn and try lots of different things and some work and some don't.

The £12k on a car that works.. well we have cars on the drive which cost £800 and what's wrong with them> Surely the desire for a £12k car just means you need to change your mind set or spend more time in church and then you'd love the £800 ones and feel happy.
£3k holiday... yes but it's the people not the place which makes a holiday whatever its cost.

But I need to get back to earning a crust (and at 6.50 today before the children were up I was doing some marketing stuff - look at the correlation between fairly hard work and success and you'll see there is some - how much did the people on the thread do before 7am today to improve their economic situation?)

windynight · 04/02/2011 08:39

I was genuine when asking what type of book...am interested
