Edinburgh Tram nightmare

PigeonPair · 02/02/2011 12:05

People who don't bother to stop their mobile phone conversations when being served in a shop.

People who don't thank me when I let them out of a junction/let them pass.

People who are consistently late (basically says their time is more important than mine)

Amanda Holden

To name a few.......

Bumpsadaisie · 02/02/2011 12:14

Settle down everyone and prepare to be ranted at ..... AngryGrin

The TV programme "A Farmers Life for Me" that was on last night....

I tuned in 'cos it was supposedly about smallholdings, something we're interested in, keeping pigs etc in a (very) small way ourselves.

But what did I find? It is a competition (of course!) to win a smallholding for a year, with people being voted off weekly (surprise, that!) and being set mindless and illogical tasks that are nothing to do with what you might do if you were really starting up a smallholding.

The programme has the sweaty paws of some mindless BBC Oxbridge graduate fast stream media whore stamped all over it, who has decided that the BBC2 audience both enjoys things like The Apprentice but also is into feelgood things that are "country" and organic - so what a winner it would be to get people to show "teamwork" to demonstrate how they are "going to make money" from their bit of land. HmmAngry

As for the couple whose plan was to create "serviced" allotments, where punters pay some vast sum to have an allotment run for them, so that they don't have to do any gardening or work, but can just turn up and pick themselves a few herbs on the odd sunny evening, while congratulating themselves on being "farmers", Hmm GRRRRRR GRRRR!! . God it is infuriating ... Angry

And breathe ... Oh, that felt good. Get me "Edwardian Farm" on iPlayer, someone, quick... Smile

LDNmummy · 02/02/2011 12:15

Horrible neighbours

Subtle racism/ classism

People who cannot say please or thank you

People who pretend not to see the pregnant or disabled people on transport

Extortionate taxes/ housing costs

Inconsiderate tourists (lodoners will get what I mean)

Sexism

the list goes on and on..........

FellatioNelson · 02/02/2011 12:21

Tories and extortionate taxes? You've got a bit of a dilemma on your hands there, then.Wink

meantosay · 02/02/2011 12:24

People who say they are 'allergic' to some foodstuff when they just 'don't like it' or 'get a bit bloated' after eating it, because they think being allergic makes them sound more interesting.

Likewise, people who never have a headache, its always a migraine, people who never have a cold it's alwasy a respiratory infection or flu and people who never have a dodgy stomach it's always food poisoning.

ivykaty44 · 02/02/2011 12:31

twatish drivers that expect you to cycle in the cycle lane when it is clearly riddled with manhole covers and drains that you can't cycle in the dam things at that point.

Council planers that plan cycle lanes riddled with drains and manhole covers, any idiot knows you then can't cycle in the dam thing across the obsictles.

cars that park in the cycle lane

People who let their dogs annoy strangers and think it is the stranger who is in the wrong for being afraid of dogs

4x4s blocking my view in carparks and at junctions

People revving their cars loudly at anti social hours.

renegadesoundwave · 02/02/2011 12:38

Two categories I s'pose..

Things that make me morally outraged:

  • Overconsumption in the Western world while many countries lack basic healthcare, sanitation, water, food..
  • The fact our governments encourage spending money on crap we don't need as some sort of moral obligation to help the economy while many countries lack basic healthcare
  • Corruption
  • The sexualisation of practically everything
  • Child soldiers

Things that make me bloody annoyed:

  • Bad manners (adults and children)
  • Pass-remarkable people (see above - "ooh, you're eating a cheese sandwich! Naughty, naughty...")
  • Meaningless bureaucracy
  • Excessive packaging
  • Being treated like an idiot or seeing other people being treated like idiots (see 'meaningless bureaucracy, I guess)
meantosay · 02/02/2011 12:39

Thanks halfcalf, yes it is very often men that need antibiotics because they coughed twice this morning.

OTheHugeManatee · 02/02/2011 12:41

Why is 'serviced allotments' such a bad thing? Surely it's no different to paying someone to help with your garden?

I think it sounds like a bloody good idea. Busy allotment renter gets fresh veg and fresh aire, and learns a bit about gardening; the gardeners get an income; the rural economy gets another way around being squeezed by supermarkets. What's not to like?

OTheHugeManatee · 02/02/2011 12:43

That said, ALL reality TV makes my blood boil.

taintedpaint · 02/02/2011 12:45

4x4s that people really don't need but just have because they 'look good and are expensive'. Really, you just look like a jackass.

My cousin. The moneygrabbing, self-involved, thick as pig shit, professional leech that she is.

Fair-weather friends.

People who will accept the kindness of others, but, despite knowing their help is really needed, won't ever offer to do a thing in return.

I have more, I'm sure....I will be back when I'm sufficiently wound up. Grin

StarlightPrincess · 02/02/2011 12:55

To name a few of the top of my head...

-Fat people who moan about being fat but are constantly stuffing their face with unhealthy food.
-Shower dodgers
-People who dress their kids like tramps
-Dog owners who treat their dog as if it's a human
-Chavs
-'Gangsta' wannabes
-Women who talk about nothing but their kids
-Middle class do-gooder types
-Doctor Who
-Grime music

Othehuge, maybe you've made a case for the serviced allotments. But just the way it came across in the context of tthis reality TV programme made me despair.

But on balance I still think that having an allotment that someone else works misses out on the point of growing your own food - which is that you grow it, and then eat the rewards of your labours.

It's yet another example of how we are becoming a service economy instead of one where people actually DO stuff. Growing your own food is DOING something, and I think this is what is good about it. I think if you pay someone to grow it for you, you aren't participating in the whole experience.

That said, as you say, better that people eat serviced allotment veg than the shrink wrapped stuff in their local Tesco. Maybe I need to get over myself.

cryhavoc · 02/02/2011 13:05

Adults who can't/don't use cutlery correctly. I find it difficult to eat at the same table as my sister because her manners are SO bad, and it drives me mad because we were raised by the same parents at the same time so I KNOW that she is capable of doing it the right way.

Misuse of apostrophes. It isn't difficult. (My sister is another culprit. I have hidden her on Facebook so I no longer see her updates.)

Middle lane drivers. Move the fuck over.

The health visitor who insisted on weighing DD every week and kept asking if I was 'still' breastfeeding her. DD is nearly three and this still makes me angry.

Ignorance. Knowledge is EVERYWHERE, anyone with internet access has the means to find out about the world. Stephen Fry makes this point far more eloquently in his book.

People who see that my dogs are rottweilers and automatically assume that they will bite them/eat their children/savage anyone in the vicinity. Also people who assume that having rottweilers means I that I am uneducated, possibly a criminal and unfit to own and train a dog.

(Have just realised I could go on all day. Am obviously a much angrier person than I thought.)

cryhavoc · 02/02/2011 13:06

'My sister is another culprit.' Sorry, that makes no sense. What I meant is that my sister is a culprit of this also.

jennymac · 02/02/2011 13:10

Miranda!

lololizzy · 02/02/2011 13:13

Certain bitchy smug mothers I've encountered (not on MN!) who think they are somehow superior to infertile women (or women who choose not to procreate) and that you are not fit to be in their elite gang. Worse..the overly patronising ones.

captainbarnaclesmum · 02/02/2011 13:19
