News full of police/govt street crime site

The site opened today and is all over the news/phone-in programmes

It is said to be attracting millions of enquiries and a lot of customers are finding it blocked.

You are supposed to be able to tap in your postcode and get crime details.

I will wait till it settles down. "Gabby"

PS At this stage I dont know if it is a good idea or not

now you know a lot more about technology than me.

If it is "down all the time"...is that due to overload or can sites just conk out?

Lack of bandwidth. It'll work fine at off peak times, like now for example.

Don't know if it'll be too helpful, but it is interesting.

What worries me is that people might start under-reporting crime so as not to bring their house prices down.

Have to say, it'll be useful if you are looking to buy or rent. Not so helpful from the other end.

Hmm... 715 cases of crime and antisocial behaviour in my area during December 2010. Including 5 on or near my own street.

Watches her property value dissapear down the drain.

yes the site's been really busy and can't cope - so keeps freezing. it's not gonna tell me anything i don't already know - there was a stabbing at the end of my street yesterday at 3.30 in the afternoon for christ sake

Only had 7 reports where we are...5 of them were antisocial behaviour near the raial station ( or the station pub, difficult to tell from a map Gin). I guess thats why it costs an arm and a leg to bloody live here!

Little to report where I live. No burglary, anti-social behaviour, robbery, vehicle crime, violent crime and just one incidence of "other crime".

That'll be illegal daffodil planting or somesuch I'd imagine.

It's days like these when I'm so glad I no longer live in South London! :o

i'm just looking at my postcode now and it's actually scaring me abit to see how much violent crime there is in the area - a total of 206 incidents

Blimey! There were just short of 1500 here (173 violent crimes). 7 in my road including 1 violent crime. Admittedly I'm in London but it's far from a rough area Shock

My Dad was telling me about this earlier. I wonder if it's too late to ring and tell him that there are fewer crimes in my area than in his? He'll be gutted Grin
